To start Mutual of Beauclair’s Wild Kingdom, take the Caravan Escort contract from a Toussaint notice board, investigate the merchant camp at the Trading Post, and follow the trail to the basilisk’s nest. At the timed choice, sparing Iocaste supports Compassion; killing her pays more crowns and yields two loot items. If you spare her, refusing Borhis’ optional extra payment can also count toward Generosity for There Can Be Only One.
How to start the quest
Look for the notice titled “Contract for a Witcher/Witchers: Caravan Escort” on a Toussaint notice board. Plegmund’s Bridge is one reported location. The contract sends Geralt to a merchant camp at the Trading Post, near Coronata Vineyard. The quest is part of the Blood and Wine expansion.

How to follow the basilisk’s trail
- Investigate the merchant camp. At the Trading Post, use Witcher Senses to examine the attacked convoy and its surroundings. The clues point to a basilisk.
- Speak with Count Borhis di Salvaress. He explains that the creature is a rare silver basilisk named Iocaste, but does not reveal where she is.
- Follow the trail. Examine the smashed tannin barrels and follow their scent, then track the blood clues to the missing merchant’s body and onward toward the nest.
- Make the choice promptly. At the nest, Geralt encounters the Crinfrid Reavers, whom Borhis hired to kill Iocaste. Borhis offers to pay them off if Geralt lets her live. The decision is timed, so select an option before the dialogue timer runs out.

Which choice should you make?
- Choose spare if you want the Compassion outcome, or want the option to gain Generosity by declining Borhis’ extra payment.
- Choose kill if you prefer the larger listed initial coin reward, the Silver Basilisk Trophy, and Squire’s Steel Sword, or are pursuing Valor.
Blood and Wine is included in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition, according to CD PROJEKT RED. Check that the edition and platform you own include the expansion before looking for this quest. The publisher’s announcement of more than 90 new quests and over thirty hours of adventures refers to the expansion as a whole, not to this quest individually.
