Neither model is an across-the-board winner. Muse Wonder is substantially cheaper and faster, with a slightly larger maximum context. Claude Fable 5.1 leads on several quality and knowledge signals and offers access through more listed API providers. Your workload—not a single leaderboard number—should decide the choice.

At the listed OpenRouter rates, one million input tokens plus one million output tokens would cost $24 with Muse Wonder and $60 with Claude Fable 5.1. Actual bills depend on the token mix and the route you use, so the example is a simple rate comparison rather than a spending forecast.

Why Muse Wonder is a credible challenger
Lower token costs
Muse Wonder’s $4 input and $20 output prices give it a large operating-cost advantage. The difference matters most for batch summarization, retrieval-augmented generation, high-volume customer support, and agent loops that repeatedly send context and receive long responses. Output pricing deserves special attention: generated text is five times as expensive as input for both models, so applications that produce lengthy responses will feel the gap quickly.

Artificial Analysis measured approximately 154 output tokens per second for Muse Wonder versus 71 for Claude Fable 5.1 in its stated comparison setup. That is roughly 2.2 times the measured output rate. Treat the result as a directional signal: server load, prompt length, streaming behavior, routing, and account limits can change the latency a user sees.
#1 Best Overall
A marginally larger raw window
OpenRouter lists Muse Wonder at 1,048,576 tokens and Claude Fable 5.1 at 1,000,000. The 48,576-token difference is about 4.9%, enough to matter for unusually large codebases, archives, or multi-document prompts, but not large enough to decide most ordinary chat or coding tasks by itself.
Where Claude Fable 5.1 still leads
Quality signals point to Claude
Artificial Analysis gives Claude Fable 5.1 an Intelligence Index of 53, one point above Muse Wonder’s 52. BenchLeader’s composite quality score shows a wider separation: 70.0 for Claude Fable 5.1 versus 66.3 for Muse Wonder. These figures support a quality advantage for Claude on the tests included by those publishers, but they should not be merged into one “true” score. Each publisher uses its own tasks, weighting, and evaluation process.
Rank #2
Reasoning is not a clean sweep
BenchLeader’s category results give Muse Wonder the stronger reasoning signal even while its overall composite favors Claude Fable 5.1. That split is important for technical buyers: a model can perform well on structured reasoning tasks yet trail on the broader mix of knowledge, instruction following, coding, or other categories in a composite. Inspect the tasks that resemble your application instead of relying on the headline ranking.

ModelCap lists four API providers for Claude Fable 5.1 and one for Muse Wonder. Multiple routes can provide more flexibility for regional availability, capacity, failover, procurement, and experimenting with latency. Provider count does not prove that every route offers identical limits, features, or performance; check the terms and model configuration for the endpoint you intend to use.
Which model fits common workloads?
High-volume generation and latency-sensitive apps
Start with Muse Wonder when the dominant constraints are cost or response speed. Its lower rates can reduce the cost of long outputs, while the Artificial Analysis throughput figure makes it the more attractive first candidate for interactive experiences where users are waiting for streamed text. Validate quality on your own prompts before switching a production workload.
Knowledge-heavy assistants and quality-critical writing
Claude Fable 5.1 is the safer first evaluation when factual breadth, nuanced instruction following, or polished responses matter more than token price. The Artificial Analysis and BenchLeader results both provide a quality-oriented reason to test it, although neither establishes performance for every domain.
Coding, tools, and autonomous agents
There is no universal coding winner in the supplied figures. Agent systems amplify both strengths and weaknesses: a cheaper, faster model can afford more iterations, while a more capable model may require fewer corrective calls. Compare repository navigation, patch accuracy, test generation, tool-call formatting, recovery after an error, and the cost of a completed task—not just tokens per second.
Very large prompts
Muse Wonder has the larger stated window, but window size is only capacity. Long-context retrieval quality, attention to instructions near the beginning and end of a prompt, and resistance to distraction determine whether that capacity is useful. If your application routinely approaches either million-token limit, test the exact document structure and retrieval strategy you will deploy.
Best Value
How to run a fair evaluation
- Build a representative set. Include real prompts, difficult edge cases, long-context examples, expected tool calls, and the response lengths your application normally requests.
- Keep the generation settings consistent. Use the same prompt, output limits, sampling settings, context preparation, and tool schemas for both models where the APIs permit.
- Measure completed-work cost. Record input and output tokens, retries, correction turns, latency to first token, total completion time, and whether a human had to intervene.
- Score the outcomes. For coding, run tests and inspect diffs. For knowledge tasks, check claims against an approved reference set. For agents, measure successful task completion and safe recovery from tool failures.
- Repeat across routes. If you select Claude Fable 5.1 for provider redundancy or Muse Wonder through its single listed route, test the endpoint and region you will actually operate.
This process matters because the published numbers come from different comparison environments. A model that wins a benchmark category may still lose on your prompts, and a faster model may require enough retries to erase its cost advantage.
Modality and integration details to verify
The price, context, speed, score, and provider listings above do not establish which model supports particular image, audio, video, tool-use, or structured-output features, nor do they specify identical rate limits and API semantics. Confirm those requirements in the current endpoint documentation before implementation. This is especially important for agents that depend on strict JSON schemas, parallel tool calls, vision inputs, or persistent state.
Prices and rankings can change

Quick Recap
Decision rule
- Choose Muse Wonder first when token economics, throughput, or the extra 48,576 tokens of stated context are your primary constraints.
- Choose Claude Fable 5.1 first when quality and knowledge performance, or access through multiple listed providers, outweighs its higher per-token price.
- Run a side-by-side pilot when coding, agents, or long-context reliability is mission-critical; the available scores point in different directions and cannot substitute for task-level testing.
