Murder Your Friends is not a released free Steam game yet. Steam lists Friendslop Studios’ asymmetric horror party game as “Coming soon” and says it is not yet available on the store. Playtests are running through the developer’s Discord, where players can join the invite list, receive new builds and find a lobby.
What Murder Your Friends is
Each round turns one member of your group into “The Guest”: a masked killer armed with a knife and a collection of cruel toys. Everyone else must search a locked mansion, locate an escape route and get out alive. The game’s central appeal is betrayal between people who can hear one another, rather than a conventional team-versus-monster campaign.

Steam describes it as “an asymmetric horror party game.” The listing currently shows online player-versus-player and online co-op features, but it does not provide a fixed launch date, price, sales figure or concurrent-player count.
How a round works
Search for the key
The key changes location between rounds. It may be hidden in a wardrobe, chest, sofa or toilet, so memorising one search route will not solve every game.

Identify the real exits
The mansion presents five apparent exits, but only two are genuine. Survivors must search under pressure while deciding which doors are worth risking. That uncertainty gives the Guest opportunities to cut off routes or force the group into a bad choice.
Escape, or become a spectator
Rounds are designed to be short and restart quickly. Players who die can ghost-spectate, letting them follow the action while the remaining survivors finish the attempt instead of waiting through a long match.

Why voice chat is a gameplay mechanic
Proximity voice chat is always on. Friends can coordinate when they are close, but a player who runs ahead becomes harder to hear. Walls muffle voices, and the killer can hear what players do. Calling out a discovered room, arguing over an exit or quietly planning a split can therefore reveal useful information to the Guest.

This makes ordinary conversation part of the risk calculation: staying together improves coordination, while separating can speed up the search but leaves people isolated and easier to ambush.

Tools survivors can use
Survivors are not limited to hiding. The listed items are built to delay, distract or disrupt the killer:
- Cup Game and Trauma Dump create opportunities to stall or misdirect.
- The Karen Doll, rope nets, medicine balls and other throwable objects can interfere with a pursuit.
- Physics-based throwing means the mansion’s objects are part of the moment-to-moment improvisation rather than simple inventory icons.
The exact strength, cooldown and availability of these items can change during playtests, so the current build should be treated as provisional.

How the Guest sabotages the group

Because the Guest hears survivor activity, noisy searches and panicked movement can be as dangerous as direct confrontation.

Is there a free Steam demo now?
No general Steam demo or free release is confirmed. The store page remains marked “Coming soon,” has no user reviews and explicitly says, “This game is not yet available on Steam.” The playable opportunity described by the developer is a playtest, not a launched product with a public price or a guaranteed permanent download.
How to join the playtest
- Open the official Murder Your Friends Steam listing and verify its current status.
- Follow the listing’s direction to the Friendslop Studios Discord community.
- Join the playtest invite list there and watch for build announcements.
- Use the community’s lobby-finding channels to assemble a group and get the current test build.

“Friendslop” is an informal label, not an official Steam genre. The term describes social co-op built around voice-chat potential, chaotic teamwork and sessions that make sense for an actual group of friends. Murder Your Friends fits that idea through proximity conversations, deliberate sabotage, physics-based distractions and fast rematches. It does not promise a fixed number of simultaneous players in the available listing, so the six-survivor figure should be read as the playable survivor roster rather than a confirmed match size.
