Choose Mullvad if account separation and a flat rate matter most
- You would rather not provide an email address, username or password when creating the VPN account.
- You value payment options that can reduce the personal information shared with the provider, while understanding that the payment method determines what information may be exposed.
- You prefer a single published monthly rate rather than comparing an introductory offer with a later renewal price.
Choose NordVPN if you need more devices or a broader feature bundle
- You want to connect as many as 10 devices at once; Mullvad lists a limit of 5.

Mullvad: one published rate
Mullvad’s pricing page says its flat rate is €5 per month including VAT and shows that rate for one month, one year and one decade. The page says it does not run holiday or event sales. NordVPN’s pricing page displays prices by locale and subscription tier. The amount shown for an introductory subscription period is separate from the subsequent renewal amount. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled, and the renewal price may be higher than the introductory price and can change. Because Mullvad publishes a VAT-included euro rate while NordVPN’s offer depends on locale, tier and term, a headline-price comparison alone can mislead. Compare the full cost for the period you intend to keep the service, including renewal.
Is Mullvad more private than NordVPN?
Mullvad has the clearer account-creation distinction: its policy says an account is identified by a random account number and requires no email address, username or password. That is not a guarantee of complete anonymity. Card, PayPal, Swish and bank-wire payments can involve personal or payment information, and payment providers may process it.

Mullvad’s policy, last updated June 17, 2026, says it does not log traffic, DNS requests, connection start or end times, session duration, IP addresses or bandwidth. It says concurrent connections are checked using temporary memory to enforce the device limit rather than permanently recorded to disk. These are different kinds of evidence: Mullvad’s account design reduces the information required at signup, while NordVPN points to its reported independent review history. Payment choice and the specific data covered by a policy still matter; neither point alone establishes that one service is more private for every user.

Mullvad lists a 14-day refund guarantee and excludes cash payments. NordVPN lists a 30-day money-back guarantee. Which is better for streaming or speed?
NordVPN documents SmartPlay and streaming support, but feature documentation does not guarantee access to a particular service’s catalog. Streaming availability can change with region, platform and the streaming provider’s rules. The cited information does not establish current, independent, service-by-service success across regions and devices for either VPN.
