The MSI XpertStation WS300 is a specialist deskside AI system for teams that need to develop or serve large models locally—not a conventional workstation upgrade for most people. Its headline 748GB is a combined, coherent memory pool: 252GB of GPU HBM3e plus 496GB of CPU LPDDR5X. MSI also advertises up to 20 PFLOPS and support for models up to 1 trillion parameters, but those are platform specifications, not guarantees of a particular model’s usable precision, context length, or speed. StorageReview’s tests show a substantial throughput advantage over its RTX PRO 6000 and DGX Spark comparison systems in selected workloads, alongside practical requirements around power, Arm software compatibility, and installation.

What does 748GB of coherent memory mean?

MSI’s figure combines two different memory types connected by NVIDIA’s NVLink-C2C interconnect: 252GB of HBM3e attached to the Blackwell Ultra GPU and 496GB of LPDDR5X attached to the Grace CPU. MSI specifies bandwidth of up to 7.1TB/s for the HBM3e and up to 396GB/s for the LPDDR5X. This is not 748GB of GPU HBM. The unified, coherent architecture lets workloads use CPU-side memory as part of a larger accessible pool, but memory placement still matters: data in the faster HBM and data in system memory do not have identical bandwidth characteristics. MSI’s product specifications describe the capacities and bandwidths.

That distinction is useful when a model’s weights or working data exceed the GPU’s HBM capacity. It does not mean that any model under a nominal size threshold will run at a useful speed. Quantization, context length, KV-cache demand, concurrent requests, and where data resides all affect whether the system can serve a workload effectively.

What do 20 PFLOPS and “up to 1T model size” mean?

MSI’s product comparison lists up to 20 PFLOPS and a maximum model size of up to 1 trillion parameters. Treat both as vendor-stated platform figures. The model-size claim is not a promise that every trillion-parameter model will fit and run at arbitrary precision, context length, or throughput. Nor can PFLOPS be converted directly into tokens per second: real inference performance depends on the model, quantization, software stack, prompt and output lengths, concurrency, and memory placement. MSI’s specifications and positioning list the figures and intended uses, including AI development, data science, inference, and personal-cloud workloads.

What did StorageReview’s tests show?

StorageReview published its review on August 24, 2026. Its tested WS300 contained four 2TB Micron 4600 Gen5 M.2 SSDs: two configured as a RAID1 boot volume and two used as separate drives. The review compared it with a Blackwell RTX PRO 6000 in a Dell Pro Max Tower T2 and a GB10 DGX Spark represented by an Acer Veriton GN100. The shared tests used vLLM live inference, the same models, 512 input and 512 output tokens for the equal-workload scenario, and a prefill-heavy 8,192-input/1,024-output-token scenario, with concurrency ranging from 1 to 128. Results below are StorageReview’s measurements for those configurations, not universal speed guarantees. Read the full StorageReview review and test details.

Equal-workload results at concurrency 128

Model and workload WS300 RTX PRO 6000 system DGX Spark
GPT-OSS-20B, 512 input/512 output tokens 22,161 output tokens/s 9,000 output tokens/s 1,469 output tokens/s
GPT-OSS-120B, 512 input/512 output tokens 9,294 output tokens/s 3,384 output tokens/s 500 output tokens/s
GPT-OSS-120B, prefill-heavy 8,192 input/1,024 output tokens 5,038 output tokens/s Lower reported ceiling Lower reported ceiling

The review reports that the WS300 led these comparison systems in the tested cases, especially at high concurrency. The “lower reported ceiling” entries are not exact values stated in the evidence here. These results answer a specific question—how these systems behaved under the review’s configurations—not how fast every model or an individual interactive session will feel.

A model larger than the GPU’s HBM capacity

In a separate experiment, StorageReview ran a 307GB NVFP4 Nemotron-3-Ultra 550B hybrid model, placing 114GB of weights in Grace memory. Output throughput started at 43 tokens/s at concurrency 1 and reached 168 tokens/s at concurrency 32. In the prefill-heavy profile, throughput peaked at 122 tokens/s at concurrency 2 and then declined as KV-cache headroom tightened. The result illustrates the practical trade-off: the large coherent pool can make models exceeding HBM capacity usable, but it does not remove the effects of memory placement or the memory required to serve long contexts and multiple requests.

Who is the WS300 for?

The WS300 makes the strongest case for AI labs, inference-engine and framework developers, robotics groups, and enterprise AI teams that need local access to large models or want to test high-concurrency serving without depending on shared cluster reservations. For those users, the relevant benefit is not just peak compute; it is having a large memory pool and a complete system available at a desk or in a local development environment.

For a single user whose models fit within 96GB, StorageReview says an RTX PRO 6000 workstation costs far less. That may be a more sensible fit when the larger pool and the WS300’s tested throughput advantages do not solve a real capacity or serving constraint. StorageReview’s comparison does not establish a current price for either system, so it does not support a price-to-performance calculation.

WS300, RTX PRO 6000 workstation, or DGX Spark?

Decision point MSI XpertStation WS300 RTX PRO 6000 workstation DGX Spark
Memory and capacity 252GB HBM3e plus 496GB LPDDR5X in a coherent pool, per MSI. StorageReview’s tested system used an RTX PRO 6000 with 96GB; the review notes it is a lower-cost alternative for workloads that fit. StorageReview’s comparison used a GB10 DGX Spark represented by an Acer Veriton GN100; a directly comparable memory-capacity figure is not stated in the evidence cited here.
Measured inference Highest throughput of the three in the cited GPT-OSS-20B and GPT-OSS-120B concurrency-128 tests. Below the WS300 in those same review tests; results depend on the tested setup and workload. Below the other systems in those same review tests; results depend on the tested setup and workload.
Host compatibility Grace host is Arm-based; StorageReview warns that this can exclude some toolchains. Host compatibility depends on the workstation configuration and software stack; a directly comparable general assessment is not stated in the review evidence summarized here. A directly comparable host-compatibility assessment is not stated in the review evidence summarized here.
Cost and acquisition MSI’s availability announcement named ASI, D&H, and Newegg; a verified price is not stated. StorageReview characterizes it as far less costly for single-user work on models fitting within 96GB; a price is not stated. A directly comparable current price is not stated.

Use benchmark comparisons as a shortlist, then test the model, quantization, context length, and request concurrency that matter to your team. The advantage of a larger memory pool is workload-specific; so are throughput and software compatibility.

What are the installation and configuration constraints?

  • Power: StorageReview says the system needs a dedicated 20A circuit on 120V circuits. The product specification lists a 1,600W 80 PLUS Titanium power supply, with its power budget shared among components. Confirm the electrical requirements for your region and exact installation with current MSI documentation before deployment.
  • Display output: StorageReview reports that the WS300 has no display output without an add-in card. The MSI specification lists PCIe expansion slots, but verify a card’s compatibility and power requirements before selecting one.
  • Arm software: The Grace host is Arm-based. Some development tools or dependencies may not support the host environment, so check your framework and toolchain before standardizing on the system.
  • Storage and networking: MSI lists two PCIe 5.0 x2 M.2 ports, two PCIe 6.0 x4 M.2 ports for training data, dual 400GbE QSFP ports via ConnectX-8, and one 10GbE RJ45 port. The review’s four-drive configuration is its tested setup, not proof that every drive arrangement is interchangeable.
  • Physical space: MSI publishes dimensions of 245mm wide, 528.4mm high, and 595mm deep. Plan for the chassis and its power and thermal needs as a substantial workstation installation, not a typical desktop tower swap.
