ASUS lists up to 175W for the RTX 5090 option in its 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18, alongside a 4K Mini LED panel running at 240Hz. Those differences make the GPU’s power limit and the display—not the shared “RTX 5090” label—the right place to start. Which laptop fits better depends on the exact regional configuration, your preferred resolution and refresh rate, and verified pricing.
Start with the exact configuration, not the GPU name
“RTX 5090” identifies a GPU tier, not a guarantee of identical performance across laptops. Compare the GPU’s stated power limit, the system’s cooling design and independent results from the specific configuration you might buy. Then check the panel, processor, memory, storage, portability and price.

The MSI figures below are for the US-store SKU A3XWJG-006US unless identified as series-level specifications. ASUS’s 2026 SCAR 18 figures describe options on its official product page; actual components vary by region and SKU. MSI A3XW series specifications, MSI US-store listing and ASUS 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18 specifications are the starting points for verifying those details.
| Comparison point | MSI Stealth A18 AI+ A3XWJG-006US | ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 24GB GDDR7; MSI’s A3XW series page lists up to 150W maximum graphics power with Dynamic Boost, varying by scenario. | RTX 5090 Laptop GPU option, up to 175W maximum TGP; confirm the exact regional configuration. |
| Display | 18-inch UHD+ Mini LED, 3840×2400, 120Hz on the US listing. | 18-inch 4K Mini LED, 240Hz on the 2026 official page. |
| Processor, memory and storage | Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64GB DDR5-5600 and 2TB NVMe SSD on the US SKU. | Up to Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, up to 128GB memory and up to 8TB storage; configuration varies. |
| Cooling and chassis | MSI describes a vapor chamber, two fans, four exhausts and a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. | ASUS lists a vapor chamber, sandwich heatsink and tri-fan cooling. |
The cooling descriptions are manufacturer specifications, not comparative thermal test results. They do not establish which laptop runs cooler, quieter or faster under sustained load.

GPU power limits: useful context, not a performance verdict
MSI lists up to 150W maximum graphics power with Dynamic Boost for the A3XW RTX 5090 option and notes that power can vary by scenario. ASUS lists up to 175W maximum TGP for the SCAR 18’s RTX 5090 option. The published ceilings differ, but that alone does not quantify the laptops’ frame rates: actual behavior depends on the workload, power mode and cooling, among other conditions.
For a meaningful comparison, look for tests that identify the precise laptop configuration, graphics power or operating mode, game, resolution and test method. A GPU label or a maximum-power figure alone cannot tell you which machine will deliver the better result in your games.

Choose the display for how you play
The MSI US SKU’s 3840×2400, 120Hz Mini LED panel favors high pixel density and resolution. The SCAR 18’s listed 4K Mini LED panel runs at 240Hz, offering a higher stated refresh rate. A higher refresh rate can matter when you prioritize fast motion, but the panel specification does not guarantee that a demanding game will render at that rate.

Compare the exact panel specification and independent measurements for brightness, HDR behavior, response time and color before treating display marketing as a measured result. MSI advertises HDR 1000, but that is a manufacturer claim; it is not a substitute for a review measurement of the specific panel.

Benchmarks: what other RTX 5090 reviews can—and cannot—tell you
Available reviews offer context on competing RTX 5090 laptops, but they do not provide a direct Stealth A18 result. In its 2026 Razer Blade 18 review, GamesRadar reported averages of 86 fps for the Blade 18 and 90 fps for the MSI Raider A18 HX in a Cyberpunk 2077 RT Ultra test. At 4K, it reported 60 fps for the Blade and 59 fps for the Raider. Those are results for the review units and test conditions—not predictions for the Stealth A18 or every RTX 5090 laptop.
GamesRadar also reported that the SCAR 18 won seven comparison tests and the MSI Raider won six across the review’s stated test set. That tally describes one review’s results, not a universal performance ranking. Results can shift with the test, resolution, power settings and system configuration.

Without a directly comparable independent Stealth A18 test, the available figures do not establish that it is faster or slower than these competitors. Do not use another MSI model’s benchmark as a substitute: the Raider A18 HX is not the Stealth A18 AI+.

Consider processor, memory and storage against your workload
The US Stealth SKU combines a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with 64GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 2TB NVMe SSD. ASUS lists the SCAR 18 with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, up to 128GB of memory and up to 8TB of storage, but those are maximum options, not a promise that every configuration includes them.

For gaming, compare the processor and graphics combination in tests of the games you play; for editing, development or other demanding work, check the workload-specific CPU results and the memory and storage capacity of the exact SKU. If upgradeability matters, verify which components can be upgraded on that model rather than assuming the listed maximums are user-installable.
Cooling, portability and everyday trade-offs
Both manufacturers describe substantial cooling systems, but product descriptions do not establish sustained performance, fan noise or surface temperatures. Seek independent measurements of the exact configuration if those factors matter to you.
MSI markets the Stealth series as slim, but a confirmed weight for the US RTX 5090 SKU is not established here. Do not rank it as more portable based on the slogan or chassis description alone. Compare the exact laptop’s weight, dimensions and power adapter, and consider how much gaming you expect to do away from an outlet. The Alienware 18 Area-51 review is another example of the broader trade-offs to assess in this class, including display, keyboard, price and gaming away from power; those observations are specific to that review unit.

Current street prices and retail availability are not established by the specifications and reviews cited here. Compare live prices for the exact configurations rather than comparing a base model with an upgraded competitor. Confirm the GPU, panel, memory, SSD and warranty in the seller’s listing, and check the manufacturer’s regional product page if listing details conflict. With no verified like-for-like price or direct Stealth benchmark, the evidence does not support a performance-per-dollar winner.
Quick Recap
A practical comparison checklist
- GPU: Confirm RTX 5090 Laptop GPU power limits, power mode and the exact SKU.
- Display: Match resolution, refresh rate and independently tested HDR and response behavior to your priorities.
- Performance: Compare reviews only when the tested configuration, game, resolution and settings are disclosed.
- System: Check the processor, installed memory and SSD capacity—not only each product family’s maximum options.
- Use away from a desk: Verify laptop and adapter weight, dimensions, acoustics and battery-focused results for the exact model.
- Price: Compare current prices for equivalent configurations and confirm the seller’s regional SKU.
