The MSI PRO MP165 E6 is a lightweight 15.6-inch Full HD portable monitor with USB-C and HDMI, a built-in stand, and flexible mounting options. It looks like a practical travel or desk-side second screen, but its basic image quality, weak speakers, and lack of a battery limit its appeal. TechRadar reported prices of about $95 in the US and £90 in the UK in December 2025; those are historical figures, not proof that it currently costs under $100.
What the MSI PRO MP165 E6 offers
MSI specifies a 15.6-inch, 16:9 IPS panel with 1920 × 1080 resolution, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and a 4 ms GtG response rating. The listed weight is 0.78 kg (1.72 lb). These are manufacturer specifications on MSI’s product page, accessed October 5, 2026.

That combination suits routine second-screen tasks—documents, email, presentations, and browsing—when you want more workspace without carrying a full-size desktop monitor. Full HD is a familiar resolution for this screen size, but it is not a high-refresh display or a stated specialist panel for color-critical work.

The monitor has USB-C and HDMI inputs. MSI says a single Type-C cable can carry both the display signal and power. That depends on the connected device: its USB-C port must support video output, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode, and supply adequate power. A USB-C port that handles charging or data alone may not send video. MSI’s US store listing specifies USB-C DP 1.2a Alt Mode.

If the host cannot output video over USB-C, HDMI is an alternative for video, but the monitor still needs power. Check the source device’s specifications and the monitor’s regional listing before relying on a single-cable setup. MSI’s US store lists an L-shaped USB-C cable, an HDMI cable, and a protective pouch as included items; package contents can vary by seller or region.
Stand and mounting options
The PRO MP165 E6 has a built-in kickstand, which MSI’s US store describes as adjustable across multiple angles. It also supports 75 mm VESA mounting and has a quarter-inch tripod socket, according to MSI’s product information. Those options are useful if you need to raise or reposition the display, while the built-in stand means an external mount is not essential.

Image, sound, and portability trade-offs
In his hands-on review published December 20, 2025, Collin Probst of TechRadar described the monitor as a low-cost extension display for uses such as business travel. He reported brightness of approximately 250 nits and judged its color coverage mediocre. That level of brightness may be limiting in bright surroundings, and the review’s assessment gives little reason to choose this model for work where dependable color reproduction is central.

They may be adequate only when audio quality is not important; headphones or separate speakers are better choices for listening. The monitor has no battery, so portable describes its size and connectivity, not untethered operation: it must be powered from a compatible host or another suitable power source.

Who should consider the PRO MP165 E6?
- Consider it if you need a compact second screen for basic productivity or travel, can power it through your setup, and find it at an attractive local price.
- Look elsewhere if you need a built-in battery, strong speakers, higher brightness, or color performance suited to color-sensitive work.
- Check before buying whether your USB-C port supports video output, what cables and accessories the specific listing includes, and the seller’s regional return and warranty terms.
Verdict
The MSI PRO MP165 E6 is a sensible basic portable monitor, not a standout display on image quality. Its 0.78 kg weight, USB-C and HDMI inputs, built-in stand, VESA support, and tripod socket make it adaptable as an extra screen. Its lack of a battery, limited brightness and color coverage, and weak speakers are meaningful compromises. The available evidence supports calling it a potentially good value at a sufficiently low live price—not declaring it today’s sub-$100 category leader or a category-wide winner.
