MSI reportedly exposed specifications for Intel’s upcoming 14th-gen desktop processors in a training video that became public in August 2023. Its leaked slide estimated an average 3% performance gain over 13th Gen, but that was a prelaunch estimate—not a verified result across workloads. Intel later officially announced six unlocked desktop models, including the Core i7-14700K with more cores than its predecessor’s tier had offered.
What MSI reportedly leaked
On August 24, 2023, Tom’s Hardware reported that a training video intended to remain private had become public with confidential information about Intel’s forthcoming Raptor Lake Refresh processors. The slide reportedly identified an average 3% performance advantage over 13th Gen. TechSpot separately described screenshots showing the Raptor Lake-S Refresh name, core counts, and expected performance ranges.

The video was later removed or made private. The specifications and estimate should therefore be understood as reported contents of leaked MSI material, not an Intel announcement. Tom’s Hardware’s report is the source for the 3% figure: MSI Accidentally Publishes Specs of new Raptor Lake-S Refresh CPUs. TechSpot’s coverage provides separate leak context: Intel 14th-gen Core name and specs revealed through accidental MSI and Asus leaks.
Was Intel 14th Gen confirmed to be 3% faster?
No—not as a general performance result. The 3% number was MSI’s reported prelaunch average estimate against 13th Gen. The available reporting does not establish that an independent benchmark study validated it across defined workloads, test systems, or settings. It is not a reliable promise that every 14th-gen processor or application will be 3% faster.

- Game without compromise. Play harder and work smarter with Intel Core 14th Gen processors
- 24 cores (8 P-cores plus 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 included
- Leading max clock speed of up to 6.0 GHz gives you smoother game play, higher frame rates, and rapid responsiveness
- Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) or 700-series chipset-based motherboards
- DDR4 and DDR5 platform support cuts your load times and gives you the space to run the most demanding games
For an upgrade decision, use reviews that test the specific processor in the applications or games you care about, then weigh those results against current street price, power use, cooling needs, and motherboard compatibility. The leaked estimate alone cannot rank a CPU or establish that an upgrade is worthwhile.
What Intel officially launched

- 10 cores (6 P-cores + 4 E-cores) and 14 threads. Integrated Intel Graphics included
- Performance hybrid architecture integrates two core microarchitectures, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance
- Up to 4.9 GHz. 22 MB Cache
- Compatible with Intel 800 series chipset-based motherboards
- PCIe 5.0 & 4.0 support. Intel Optane Memory support. No thermal solution included.
Core i7-14700K
Intel’s launch presentation identifies the Core i7-14700K as a 20-core, 28-thread processor: 8 performance cores (P-cores) and 12 efficient cores (E-cores). The i7-14700K is a real 14th-gen desktop part, but its specifications alone do not determine whether it is a good purchase for a particular workload or budget. Intel’s 14th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processors Product Brief and Intel Core 14th Gen desktop press presentation document the family and launch specifications.

MSI presented its Z790 MAX motherboards as a pairing for Intel Core 14th Gen processors. That does not establish compatibility for every MSI board or every Intel 600- or 700-series motherboard. Before upgrading, check the exact motherboard model’s CPU support list and required BIOS version with its manufacturer.
