How good is the deal? Mozilla VPN is a paid, whole-device VPN with support for up to five devices, 500+ servers in 30+ countries, and features such as multi-hop routing and ad and tracker blocking. Its value depends on your local price and whether five devices and app-based coverage meet your needs: it does not support routers, smart TVs, consoles, or dongles. Mozilla says it and its partner Mullvad do not log VPN network activity, but Mozilla’s privacy notice also describes 90-day retention of IP addresses in server logs. The US offer checked October 4, 2026 is $4.99 per month when billed annually ($59.88 plus tax) or $9.99 month-to-month; check your own checkout page for localized pricing and terms.

What does Mozilla VPN protect?
Mozilla describes VPN as an encrypted tunnel between your device and its servers. The service masks your IP address with the server’s IP and location, and Mozilla identifies WireGuard as its protocol. These are Mozilla’s descriptions of the service, not independent verification of current performance. How Mozilla VPN works; Mozilla VPN features.
Unlike a browser-only proxy, the Mozilla VPN app is intended to protect traffic from apps on the connected device. Its advertised tools include ad and tracker blocking, blocking downloads from known unsafe sources, custom DNS, nearby-server recommendations, and multi-hop routing through two locations. Mozilla lists per-website rules through a Firefox extension on Windows; app exclusions are listed for Windows, Android, and Linux. Feature availability can depend on platform.

What data does Mozilla VPN collect?
Mozilla’s Subscription Services Privacy Notice, effective December 17, 2025, says that neither Mozilla nor its partner Mullvad maintains logs of VPN network activity while you use the service. The same notice says Mozilla retains IP addresses in technical server logs for 90 days, using them to approximate location and help prevent fraud and abuse. It also says Mozilla receives client version and device operating-system and hardware information. Optional interaction-data collection is disabled by default; if enabled, it can include limited details such as whether ad blocking or app exclusions are turned on. Mozilla Subscription Services Privacy Notice.
The practical distinction is important: the no-network-activity-logs statement is not the same as saying Mozilla collects or retains no data. The privacy notice describes technical and account-related information separately from browsing or VPN network activity. Mozilla’s Subscription Services Terms of Service, effective September 16, 2026, describes the product as “a Virtual Private Network in partnership with Mullvad.” Mozilla Subscription Services Terms.

What does the Cure53 audit establish?
Cure53’s 2023 white-box penetration test and source-code audit covered Mozilla VPN client apps for macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android. Its report lists 15 findings: seven categorized as security vulnerabilities and eight as low-risk general weaknesses. The auditors described the client-security impression as mixed, while also noting sound code structure and no memory-corruption faults. They identified insufficient restrictions around some client features that could potentially permit unauthorized access or VPN deactivation. Cure53 audit report.
This was an audit of client applications, not the VPN server infrastructure, and it dates to 2023. It is not evidence of the service’s present security state or of whether each finding has since been fixed.

Which devices and countries are supported?
Mozilla’s support material lists Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, with up to five registered devices. Mozilla says the app cannot be installed or used on smart TVs, gaming consoles, streaming dongles, or routers. That rules out using it directly on a TV or applying VPN protection to every device through a router. Mozilla VPN installation and subscription support; Mozilla VPN FAQ.

Will Mozilla VPN slow down your internet connection?
Mozilla says VPN use can slow a connection and that results depend on factors including time zone, your connection speed, and distance to the VPN server. The official information does not provide a measured speed result for your connection or location. No speed testing is presented here, so choose a nearby server where practical and judge performance on your own network.
Is Mozilla VPN the same as Firefox’s built-in VPN?
No. Firefox’s built-in VPN is a separate, free feature that routes Firefox browser traffic through a secure proxy and has a 50 GB monthly data limit. Mozilla VPN is a paid app intended to protect traffic from apps across the device. Using Firefox’s feature does not protect traffic from other apps, and the browser feature is being rolled out progressively, so it may not yet appear for every eligible user. Mozilla support: Firefox built-in VPN.
Who should consider Mozilla VPN?
- It may fit: someone who wants app-based, whole-device VPN coverage on a supported computer or phone, values Mozilla’s stated no-network-activity-logs policy, and can stay within the five-device limit.
- It may not fit: a household that needs router-level coverage or direct support for TVs and consoles, someone who needs more than five devices, or a buyer whose local renewal price is not competitive.
- Do not buy it solely for streaming access: Mozilla’s official information reviewed here does not establish streaming compatibility or reliable geo-unblocking.
For a fair comparison with another VPN, compare local annual and monthly totals, supported devices and router support, server-country count, device cap, privacy disclosures (including IP retention), audit date and scope, refund route, and platform-specific features. Do not treat unverified speed or streaming claims as comparable evidence.
