MOZA MFY Yoke vs Honeycomb Alpha XPC: Which Flight-Sim Yoke Is Better for You?

By Freedom251 Team · · 9 min read

Choose the Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls XPC if you want one complete yoke, an integrated switch panel, and officially documented Xbox support. Choose the MOZA MFY if you specifically want a modular handle and are prepared to buy a separate AY90 or AY210 base. The MFY handle is not a standalone USB yoke; MOZA says it is designed for those two bases.

The meaningful comparison is therefore a complete Alpha XPC against an MFY-plus-base system. Compare the finished system’s price, force-feedback behavior, mounting space, programmable inputs, and platform support—not the MFY handle’s lower headline price alone.

The short answer

For most buyers, the Honeycomb Alpha XPC is the easier recommendation. It includes the yoke and aviation-style switch panel in one unit, uses a conventional damped self-centering mechanism, and is listed for PC, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Its current Honeycomb price is $349.99, although regional pricing and stock can change.

The MOZA route is more specialized. The $129 MFY price applies to the handle only. You must add an AY90 or AY210 base. The AY210 is the option with MOZA’s documented native telemetry force feedback, while the MFY handle supplies the controls and modular interface. This combination is attractive if you want force feedback, interchangeable handles, or extensive custom input mapping, but it costs and occupies more than a single Alpha XPC.

How the MOZA MFY system works

The MFY is a handle, not a complete yoke

MOZA’s support wording is explicit: “The MFY Yoke is designed for the MOZA AY210 and AY90 Yoke Bases.” The handle therefore cannot replace a USB yoke by itself. It needs the mechanical movement, sensors, mounting, and electronics supplied by one of those bases.

This modular design separates the part you hold from the mechanism that moves it. You can select the base according to the feel and force requirements you want, then configure the handle’s many controls in software. It also means the $129 figure is an entry price for a component, not the cost of a usable yoke system.

AY210 is the force-feedback option documented here

MOZA’s AY210 support specification lists native telemetry force feedback, 9 N·m sustained roll torque, and 210 N maximum pitch force. It also lists ±90° roll, or 180° total rotation, and 150 mm of travel. Those are base specifications; they should not be attributed to the MFY handle alone.

Force feedback can represent simulator telemetry rather than merely returning the handle to center. That makes the AY210 fundamentally different from a passive or damped self-centering yoke. The practical benefit depends on simulator support, configuration, and how much physical resistance you prefer. The published specifications do not establish that it is quieter, smoother, or more reliable than the Alpha.

AY90 requires a separate feature check

The available official material establishes that the MFY is compatible with the AY90, but it does not provide a complete AY90 performance specification. If you choose that lower-cost base, confirm its force-feedback capabilities, torque, travel, mounting method, and software features on the regional product page before paying. Do not assume that the AY90 has the AY210’s 9 N·m torque or 210 N maximum pitch force.

Control density and physical details

MOZA lists up to 34 configurable signal outputs. The handle includes two Hall-effect joysticks, two 8-way switches, and two triggers. This favors pilots who want to map simulator functions directly to the yoke rather than reach for a keyboard or separate panel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The current MOZA support specification gives the MFY a mass of 1.3 kg and dimensions of 142.5 × 202 × 313 mm. Those measurements describe the handle specification supplied by MOZA; the installed base and mounting hardware add to the complete system’s footprint and weight.

What the Honeycomb Alpha XPC provides

A complete unit with a familiar aviation layout

The Alpha XPC combines its yoke mechanism and switch panel in one purchase. Its panel includes an 8-way POV control, rocker switches, buttons, push-to-talk, master, alternator, avionics and light switches, plus a five-position ignition switch. That arrangement mirrors the controls many general-aviation simulator users expect, without requiring a second accessory panel.

Self-centering rather than force feedback

Honeycomb describes the Alpha XPC as using damped self-centering and upgraded Hall-effect sensors. It rotates 180° and has no center detent, so the handle returns toward center without a hard notch at the midpoint. Honeycomb does not specify a force-feedback base for the XPC. Its resistance and centering behavior should therefore be evaluated as a conventional mechanical yoke feel, not as telemetry-driven control loading.

Input layout versus raw output count

The Alpha’s controls are fewer in number than the MFY’s stated maximum of 34 configurable outputs, but they are integrated into a dedicated switch panel. That can be an advantage when your simulator workflow uses aircraft-style master, lighting, avionics, and ignition controls. The MFY is the better fit when you would rather decide exactly what each joystick, switch, trigger, or button does.

Force feedback and centering: the deciding feel difference

The systems are built around different ideas. With an AY210, the MOZA system can apply native telemetry force feedback through the base. The simulator can communicate flight-state forces, and the base supplies the physical resistance. The published 9 N·m sustained roll torque and 210 N maximum pitch force indicate a substantial mechanical capability, but they are specification figures rather than a standardized comparison test.

The Alpha XPC uses damped self-centering. It is simpler to understand: move the yoke, release it, and the mechanism biases it back toward center. The lack of a center detent is useful for continuous control, while the absence of force feedback means it will not reproduce telemetry-driven loading in the way an AY210 can.

Neither design is universally better. Select the AY210 path when force feedback is a primary requirement and your simulator software and mounting setup can support it. Select the Alpha when predictable self-centering, straightforward setup, and a lower-complexity cockpit matter more.

Inputs and cockpit workflow

Choose MFY for programmable density

Up to 34 configurable outputs give the MFY system room for custom bindings: trim, view, autopilot, radio, menus, or aircraft-specific commands can be placed on the handle according to your preferences. The two Hall-effect joysticks and two 8-way switches can reduce keyboard use in a complex simulator. This flexibility is valuable only if you are willing to spend time assigning and remembering those controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Alpha for immediately recognizable switches

The Alpha XPC’s panel makes common general-aviation actions visible and physical. Master, alternator, avionics, light, ignition, rocker, and push-to-talk controls are easier to identify than a blank collection of programmable buttons. Users who fly several aircraft with similar panel conventions may prefer this consistency even though the total output count is lower.

Think about hand position and reach

A yoke with many controls can keep your hands on the primary control, but it can also become crowded. A panel integrated into the Alpha keeps frequently used aircraft switches in one predictable area. The MFY’s modular handle lets you position the base and other cockpit controls independently, which can be an advantage in a custom rig and a complication on a small desk.

Platform compatibility

Honeycomb explicitly lists PC, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S support for the Alpha XPC. That makes it the clear choice for an Xbox buyer based on the published compatibility information.

MOZA documents PC simulator support for the MFY ecosystem. The supplied specifications do not establish Xbox compatibility. If console use is a requirement, do not infer support from the handle’s USB-style control concept; choose the product whose official platform list includes your console.

Total cost and value

Why the headline prices are misleading

The MOZA MFY’s official price found was $129 USD, but that is the handle. A usable system also requires an AY90 or AY210 base, and the base price is additional. The Alpha XPC’s listed price of $349.99 covers the complete yoke and switch panel. The original Alpha is listed at $299.99, but model availability and regional stock determine whether that older price represents a current buying option.

Compare the final checkout total, not $129 against $349.99. Include the base, any required mounting hardware, shipping, taxes, and the value of a built-in switch panel you would otherwise have to purchase separately. Prices are current-listing observations and can change without notice.

Space and upgrade value

The MFY ecosystem can justify its extra complexity if you expect to change handles, add other MOZA hardware, or use AY210 force feedback as a central part of your simulator. Its modularity may reduce replacement costs when your preferences change, but the initial system occupies the base’s mounting area in addition to the handle’s dimensions.

The Alpha XPC concentrates the yoke and switch panel in one unit. That can be better value for a first cockpit, a shared desk, or anyone who does not want to assemble a base-and-handle combination. It offers less modular expansion in exchange for a finished, conventional layout.

Installation and setup decision path

  1. Confirm the platform first. For Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, select the Alpha XPC because Honeycomb explicitly lists those consoles. For PC, either ecosystem remains possible.
  2. Decide whether force feedback is essential. If yes, budget for an AY210 and verify that your simulator supports the telemetry behavior you want. If no, the Alpha’s damped self-centering or an MFY paired with a base chosen for its other features may be sufficient.
  3. Price the complete system. Add the MFY handle to the chosen AY90 or AY210 base, then compare that total with the Alpha XPC’s complete-unit price and any mounting or delivery costs.
  4. Measure your mounting area. Account for the MFY handle’s stated 142.5 × 202 × 313 mm dimensions plus the selected base and its mounting hardware. For the Alpha, allow space for the yoke and its integrated switch panel.
  5. Map controls to your aircraft. With MFY, plan assignments for the two joysticks, two 8-way switches, triggers, and other configurable outputs. With Alpha, identify which aircraft functions will use the dedicated panel and which will remain on a keyboard or separate controller.
  6. Check the exact regional listing before ordering. Confirm stock, current price, included hardware, platform wording, and return terms. The available specifications do not establish a universal bundle across every region.

PC pilot seeking force feedback

Choose the MFY with the AY210, provided the additional base cost and mounting requirements fit your cockpit. The AY210 is the component with documented native telemetry force feedback, 9 N·m sustained roll torque, and 210 N maximum pitch force.

First-time buyer wanting the fewest parts

Choose the Alpha XPC. It is a complete yoke and switch panel, so there is no separate base decision and no need to build a control layout from a modular handle.

Builder with a custom cockpit

Choose the MFY ecosystem if interchangeable hardware, custom bindings, and a base selected for your preferred feel are more important than simplicity. Confirm the AY90’s feature set separately; the supplied official material does not provide its full performance specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

General-aviation switch-panel user

Choose the Alpha XPC when dedicated master, alternator, avionics, light, ignition, rocker, and push-to-talk controls match the way you fly. Choose MFY when you prefer assigning those functions yourself and want more configurable outputs on the handle.

Limitations of the published comparison

The official material does not provide a controlled head-to-head test, long-term failure-rate data, or a standardized measurement of software usability. It therefore cannot establish that either yoke is objectively smoother, quieter, or more reliable. The most defensible choice comes from the documented architecture, controls, platform list, specifications, and complete-system cost.

Final buying rule

Buy the Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls XPC for the complete package, integrated aviation switch panel, conventional self-centering feel, and Xbox support. Buy the MOZA MFY with AY210 when native telemetry force feedback and a modular, highly configurable ecosystem justify purchasing a separate base. Consider the MFY with AY90 only after verifying that base’s current features and performance meet your requirements.
