Preserve each event’s intended date, wall-clock time and timezone context, then verify how the destination displays and schedules it. EventON provides timezone controls at both the event and site-default levels, and can display times in a visitor’s timezone; that does not mean current EventON data is universally wrong.
Why a timestamp does not tell the whole story
A timestamp can represent an absolute point in time, while an event’s date and time are often entered as local calendar values: for example, “7 p.m. in the event’s timezone.” Those are related, but not interchangeable without knowing which timezone rules were used to interpret the date and time.

EventON’s event-entry guide describes entering start and end date/time and selecting a timezone. Its product page also describes a default event timezone and an option to let visitors view event times in their own timezone. So a number copied from storage may not, on its own, preserve the event’s intended local-time meaning or reproduce the same visitor-facing display.
A 2014 reply in an EventON developer discussion said the plugin had moved from separate date/time metadata to Unix start and end timestamps. That is historical context, not proof of the current storage schema or how a current installation interprets timezones.

What EventON’s history does—and does not—show
The EventON Lite changelog records timezone and time-related corrections in particular releases. For example, it lists a fix for incorrect event time in some timezones in version 2.3.1 on January 13, 2025; a repeated-event calculation fix with respect to event timezone in version 2.2.13 on February 2, 2024; and an ICS start-time/DST correction in version 2.4 on April 9, 2025. The WordPress.org listing also contains later time-related entries. These dated notes establish that corrections were made; they do not establish how widespread a problem was or that every current EventON site is affected.
A WordPress.org support user once reported that events appeared one hour later than entered. A responder suggested checking the WordPress timezone, EventON’s default event timezone and the timezone on the event, and the thread says version 2.3.1 addressed the issue. That is an individual historical report, not evidence that the same symptom applies to every installation.

What to preserve before moving events
Before conversion, capture the source settings and the event’s meaning, not just the value stored for its start and end. Record:
- The installed EventON version and the WordPress site timezone.
- EventON’s default event timezone and each event’s configured timezone.
- For representative events, the intended calendar date, local start and end times, and whether the destination should preserve an absolute instant or a local wall-clock time.
This distinction matters especially when the destination expects a different representation. If an event is intended to start at 7 p.m. local time, confirm that the migrated event still means 7 p.m. in the intended zone—not merely that a numeric timestamp was copied unchanged.

Migration checks for the cases most likely to need attention
Use a staging copy and keep a database backup before importing. The following checks are practical safeguards based on EventON’s documented behavior and the edge cases its importer documentation identifies.
- Build a representative sample. Include timed events in the timezones your site uses, events near daylight-saving transitions, all-day and multi-day events, and every recurrence pattern in use.
- Check the source event setup. EventON’s entry guide says that when no end date is supplied, the end date defaults to the start date; that can cause display problems for multi-day events. Its product page says day-, month- and year-long event types override the date/time entered above. Include those cases in your sample instead of assuming they behave like ordinary timed events.
- Compare source and destination behavior. For each sample, check the calendar date, local wall-clock time, timezone label or visitor-localized behavior, and generated occurrences. If an absolute instant matters for the event, compare that too. Confirm which representation the destination expects.
- Review recurrence warnings and results. Verify the actual dates generated after import, not just the recurrence label or rule. Check every repeat pattern your site uses.
- Audit non-time data separately. Check event URLs, categories or types, locations, organizers, images, online-event links, ticketing data and custom fields. A successful time conversion does not prove that every add-on or site-specific field came across.
What a documented EventON importer supports
Beacon Events’ EventON importer documentation says its tool imports EventON and EventON Lite event times and timezones, all-day events, locations, organizers, event types and categories, featured images, online-event links, and repeat data. This describes one importer’s documented behavior, not a universal guarantee for other tools or every site.

The same documentation says a repeat rule is retained only when it produces exactly the dates EventON saved. Custom date lists and hourly repeats may import only the first occurrence, with the report identifying the event for review. Confirm the importer’s current support and manually inspect affected events on a test copy before relying on the conversion.

Compare candidates against the way your calendar actually works. The evidence here documents EventON’s controls and one importer; it does not establish which alternative plugin handles these features best.
- Does the replacement support timezones per event, a site default, and visitor-localized display?
- How does it represent all-day and multi-day events, including events whose end date is omitted?
- Does its recurrence model produce the same dates as the patterns your site uses?
- Can it preserve or correctly regenerate ICS exports, particularly around daylight-saving changes?
- Which locations, organizers, media, categories, URLs and custom fields or add-on data can it import?
- Can you test representative events and review a detailed import report before switching the live calendar?
Use these questions to evaluate an actual candidate’s documentation and test results; do not infer compatibility simply because it imports event records.
