How do you decide when to upgrade?
Base the decision on measured workload and the consequences of stale or missing data, not on a plan label alone. Record:
- Which endpoints and sports the app uses, and how many requests it makes on an average day and at peak load.
- How frequently data must refresh, and whether delayed live data is acceptable.
- Whether the app needs older seasons, a historical archive, widgets, webhooks, or concurrent WebSocket connections.
- What happens to users or downstream systems when an update is late, unavailable, or corrected.
- What support response or service commitment the product requires.
Track requests under realistic load and compare them with the limits Orbistats confirms for your account. The API reference says limits are per API key and returned on every response; use those headers and observed responses as monitoring inputs, while verifying how the account’s actual quota is defined. How should you prepare the production request path?
- Confirm the account terms. Verify the plan name, price and currency, request quotas, access duration, data freshness, history, WebSocket allowance, and included features with Orbistats.
- Test the documented authentication flow. Create an account, obtain an API key, and send it using Bearer-token authentication as described in the documentation. - Exercise the real workload. Run the same endpoint patterns and update cadence expected in production, including realistic peak traffic. Measure request volume and inspect rate-limit responses before launch.
- Handle limits deliberately. The documentation says an exceeded rate limit returns HTTP 429 with a
Retry-Afterheader. Back off according to that header, avoid tight retry loops, and alert when requests approach the account’s confirmed quota. What does the license permit?
The licensing policy permits displaying data in the account holder’s own app, website, dashboard, or trading system, and caching it at an interval appropriate to the plan’s freshness. Raw-data resale, redistribution, or sublicensing requires a separate agreement. Is changing tiers the same as changing API versions?
No. A billing-tier change and an API-version migration are separate workstreams. Orbistats says non-breaking changes ship continuously, while breaking changes ship under a new API version with a migration guide and overlap window. Keep version upgrades in their own plan: review the migration guide and schedule the change within its stated overlap rather than assuming a subscription change alters endpoint behavior.
