In its 2026 contents-insurance comparison, CHOICE lists the renters Standard product as a standard sum-insured policy. That means the policy is structured around a chosen total insured amount for contents; it does not establish that every item is covered without individual limits or conditions.
What events does the public comparison say it covers?

Accidental damage
CHOICE lists accidental damage as an optional extra. Do not assume it is included in the base policy: check whether it is available for your quote, what it costs, and what accidental losses the wording does and does not cover.

The public comparison information available here does not establish whether portable contents cover is included, optional or excluded for this policy. If you want cover for belongings taken away from home, such as a laptop or phone, confirm the applicable terms and any limits directly in your quote, PDS and schedule.

What a renter should insure
Contents insurance is generally intended to cover a renter’s own belongings; the landlord or strata corporation generally insures the building. Moneysmart, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s consumer information service, says: “If you rent or if you live in a strata property, home insurance will be covered by your landlord or strata corporation. That is general renters guidance, not confirmation of the terms of this MOVE Bank policy. Moneysmart also notes that renters insurance is another name for contents insurance and may have more exclusions and limits than standard contents cover. Whether legal liability is covered, and on what terms, depends on the actual policy wording.
What the public record does not tell you
CHOICE says it scored the policy on cover only because the insurer did not share price data. Its comparison therefore does not establish what you would pay, a value score or an overall “best” rating. Nor do the public comparison details establish this reader’s premium or the exact excesses, sub-limits, settlement basis or exclusions.

- Sum insured and item limits: Estimate the replacement value of your belongings and check category or single-item sub-limits, including for valuables.
- Claim settlement: Check whether claims are settled on a replacement-value basis or another basis, and whether the insurer may repair, replace or pay cash.
- Cover choices: Verify whether accidental damage and portable contents are included, optional or excluded in the specific offer.
- Events and exclusions: Read how insured events are defined and which exclusions or conditions could matter for your home and circumstances.
Moneysmart recommends comparing premium, excess, cover limits, the value of belongings and settlement options, and using the PDS to check detailed cover. The current PDS and your policy schedule—not a general product summary—are the sources to use for binding specifics.

How to decide whether the policy fits your needs
Compare the MOVE Bank quote with other contents policies using the same assumptions: the same contents value, address and relevant cover options. A lower premium alone does not show which policy offers more useful protection if excesses, item limits, settlement terms or optional covers differ.
- Make an inventory and estimate what it would cost to replace your belongings.
- Get a quote using that contents value, then record the premium and payment terms.
- Compare the excesses, sub-limits and claim settlement approach in each policy’s PDS and schedule.
- Check whether you need optional accidental-damage or away-from-home cover, and confirm availability and terms rather than assuming it is included.
- Read the exclusions and conditions relevant to your location and circumstances before purchasing.
