In 2026 it is no longer Motorola’s newest premium flip phone, but it can still be a compelling purchase when clearance, open-box, refurbished, or used pricing is substantially below launch price—especially if you want its unusually capable 4-inch cover screen.
The hardware remains strong: a 6.9-inch 165Hz inner display, Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 12GB of RAM, 256GB storage, 50MP main and 2x telephoto cameras, 4,000mAh battery, and IPX8 water resistance. Its compromises are shorter update support than newer Samsung and Google phones, no ultrawide camera or formal dust rating, and higher repair risk than a conventional phone.

Release date, naming, and launch price
Motorola announced the US Razr Plus 2024 on June 25, 2024. Preorders opened July 10 through Motorola, Amazon, Best Buy, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Unlocked retail sales began July 24 through Motorola.com, Amazon, and Best Buy; several additional carriers began availability July 25. The launch MSRP was $999.99 for 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage.

“Razr Plus 2024” is the US name. In many international markets the same generation is sold as the Razr 50 Ultra. Regional hardware, firmware, network bands, warranty terms, colors, and accessories can differ, so an imported Razr 50 Ultra should not automatically be treated as a US model.
The $999.99 figure is a historical MSRP, not a 2026 street price. A current offer should be judged by retailer, condition, storage, warranty, and carrier status. Trade-in and carrier bill-credit offers may require a qualifying plan or installments, while marketplace prices may omit meaningful warranty coverage.

Displays and everyday design
The 4-inch cover screen is the Razr Plus 2024’s defining feature. It can run selected apps, handle messages and widgets, provide Gemini access, and show a live preview for rear-camera selfies without opening the phone. That makes quick replies, navigation checks, music controls, and camera framing possible while the phone remains folded.
Opening the phone reveals a tall 6.9-inch pOLED panel with LTPO variable refresh up to 165Hz. Both screens support HDR10+ and 10-bit color. Motorola’s brightness figures are laboratory-style peak ratings, so they should not be read as sustained brightness in every situation.
The redesigned hinge is smaller than the previous generation, and reviews found the crease less conspicuous than on many competing foldables. It is still present, however, and the inner panel remains more vulnerable than a conventional glass phone.

Performance and software support
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is fast enough for normal Android use, multitasking, photography, and demanding games. It is a capable upper-tier chip, not the same as Qualcomm’s top Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship platform. The 12GB of RAM and fast UFS 4.0 storage help the phone avoid the sluggishness associated with cheaper foldables.
The phone shipped with Android 14. Motorola stated a commitment to three Android OS upgrades and four years of software updates, while warning that timing varies by region, carrier, and sales channel. OS upgrades and security updates are different promises; buyers should check Motorola’s current status page for their exact model: Motorola software and security update information.
That support window is a significant 2026 consideration. People who keep a phone for five to seven years will generally get a longer commitment from newer Samsung or Google flagships.

The rear array combines a 50MP main camera with a 50MP 2x telephoto camera. The telephoto’s optical reach suits portraits and modest magnification, and it can be used with the cover screen for hands-free framing. Reviews considered the main camera a meaningful improvement over the 2023 Razr Plus.
The trade-off is the absence of an ultrawide camera. A telephoto is preferable for portraits and distant subjects; an ultrawide is more useful for landscapes, architecture, groups, and tight indoor spaces. Motorola’s AI processing can assist exposure, stabilization, action shots, and zoom processing, but it does not make this a replacement for a conventional flagship camera system in every low-light or long-range situation.

Battery and charging
The 4,000mAh battery is larger than the previous Razr Plus generation’s battery, and reviews generally found endurance improved. Actual runtime varies considerably with cover-screen use, the bright 165Hz inner panel, cellular signal, gaming, and camera use. The phone supports 45W wired TurboPower, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless charging.
Motorola sells the charger separately. If you do not already own a compatible USB-C charger, include that cost when comparing a discounted phone with a newer model that includes one.

IPX8 means the phone was tested for water submersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes under specified conditions. The “X” is important: it indicates no formal dust-ingress rating. Water resistance can also weaken after drops, repairs, hinge wear, or screen damage. Avoid salt water, chlorinated water, dusty environments, and charging near water.
The factory-installed inner screen protector is part of the phone’s design. Do not peel it off or apply an unapproved replacement. A lifting protector, bubbles near the crease, clicking or popping hinge, flickering display, dead pixels, touch failures, visible debris, or a phone that will not open flat indicates a potential repair issue rather than a harmless cosmetic flaw. Checklist for used, refurbished, or open-box units
- Confirm the exact model, storage capacity, and regional variant.
- Confirm factory-unlocked or carrier-unlocked status and check the IMEI for blacklist or financing issues.
- Inspect the inner protector, crease, hinge movement, cover glass, USB-C port, and ability to open flat.
- Ask for battery-health information, repair history, included accessories, return window, and warranty provider.
- Test your carrier’s SIM or eSIM, 5G, calls, Wi-Fi Calling, cameras, speakers, and wireless charging before the return period ends.
How it compares with newer Razr phones and Galaxy Z Flip models
The Razr Plus 2024 is now an older generation. Motorola announced the Razr Plus 2026 at a $1,099.99 US MSRP with an unlocked release date of May 21, 2026: Motorola’s 2026 Razr family announcement. If a 2024 unit costs nearly as much as the 2026 model, the newer phone is the more defensible choice because it offers a longer remaining support life.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip line remains an alternative for buyers who prioritize a longer support proposition, Samsung ecosystem integration, and a mature accessory and service network. Who should buy the Razr Plus 2024 in 2026?
It makes sense when
- You specifically want a genuinely useful 4-inch outer display and compact folded design.
- The price is meaningfully below $999.99 and includes a trustworthy return policy or warranty.
- You prefer portraits and 2x framing to ultrawide photography.
- You accept Motorola’s shorter update commitment and the maintenance needs of a foldable.
Choose something else when
- Long-term software support, dust resistance, or the lowest repair risk is your priority.
- You need an ultrawide camera for groups, interiors, or landscapes.
- The phone is only slightly cheaper than the Razr Plus 2026 or a current Galaxy Z Flip.
- The listing cannot verify model, carrier status, screen-protector condition, or warranty.

The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 remains attractive in 2026 only as a well-discounted, carefully inspected foldable. Its excellent cover screen, capable performance, strong displays, telephoto camera, and wireless charging are still distinctive; its shorter support horizon, lack of ultrawide and dust rating, separately sold charger, and foldable repair risks demand a substantial price advantage.
