The Motorola Razr 50—sold as the Motorola Razr (2024) in the US—is a compelling entry-level clamshell foldable if you want a useful cover screen and a compact design for everyday use. Its 3.6-inch external display can run selected apps, and the phone has an IPX8 water-resistance rating. The trade-offs are midrange performance, cameras that are less consistent in difficult conditions, modest wired charging and no official dust-resistance rating. This is the standard Razr 50, not the pricier Razr 50 Ultra.
What stands out about the Razr 50?
The cover screen is the phone’s defining feature. At 3.6 inches, it is large enough for quick interactions and selected full apps without unfolding the phone. Motorola introduced it as a major feature of the 2024 Razr family; GSMArena reports a resolution of 1,056 × 1,066 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The internal 6.9-inch LTPO OLED has a 1,080 × 2,640 resolution and supports up to 120Hz, as well as HDR10 and HDR10+ according to GSMArena.

That makes the Razr 50 more than a phone that simply folds small: the outer screen can handle some tasks on its own, while the larger display is there when you need it. The exact apps and experience may depend on software and settings. GSMArena’s review covers the design and screens; Motorola’s launch announcement describes the external display at Motorola News.

Reviewers praised the foldable’s grippy vegan-leather finish and hinge, which can hold some partially open positions. Those are hands-on impressions, not evidence of long-term hinge durability. The phone is rated IPX8 for water resistance, but the “X” indicates that the rating does not establish dust protection. Sand and fine dust are particular concerns for a folding phone, so this is a less reassuring choice for beach trips or dusty work sites. Tech Advisor’s review notes the absence of an official dust-resistance rating.

How fast is it for everyday use?
The Razr 50 uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300X, identified in the 91mobiles review. It is adequate for routine communication, browsing and social apps, but performance is not a strength at this price tier. 91mobiles observed a little interface jitter, and Tech Advisor also listed performance among its drawbacks.
For everyday tasks, that limitation may not matter much. People who play demanding games, expect consistently top-end responsiveness or compare it with premium non-folding phones should look more closely at performance. Game frame rates and heat can vary with the title, settings and surroundings; the review evidence does not establish one result for every game or condition.
Are the cameras any good?
The rear system comprises a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera that also supports macro photography, according to Motorola. 91mobiles lists a 32MP front camera. The camera setup has no telephoto lens, so it is not the right choice if optical reach is a priority.

Review impressions depend on the scene. 91mobiles found daylight color and some selfie results appealing, but also noted weaker detail, low-light performance and skin-tone rendering in some situations. Megapixel counts alone do not predict whether a photo will look good: light, processing and the subject matter all affect results. Motorola lists the camera features in its Razr 50 feature overview.
For casual daylight shots and social sharing, the cameras can be serviceable. For dependable low-light detail, consistent portraits or telephoto framing, consider a phone with a stronger camera system.
How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
The Razr 50 has a 4,200mAh battery, 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, according to Motorola. In GSMArena’s tests, video and web endurance were strong, while gaming endurance was comparatively weaker. That split matters: battery life depends heavily on how the phone is used, and long gaming sessions are a less favorable scenario than video or web use.

Charging results differ by test setup. GSMArena recorded 59% after 30 minutes and a full wired charge in 1 hour 2 minutes using a 30W PD adapter. 91mobiles reported 50 minutes to go from 20% to 100% in its own test. These measurements are not directly interchangeable, but both suggest that wired charging is not especially fast by current fast-charging standards. See the charging and battery sections of GSMArena’s lab review and the 91mobiles review for their respective test contexts.

How does it compare with a Galaxy Z Flip?
The natural alternative is Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip line, particularly the Z Flip 6 when these phones launched. The right choice depends on the exact price and version available where you live, not review-era positioning alone. Compare the cover-screen apps you will actually use, gaming performance, camera consistency and whether you need telephoto reach. Also consider dust protection, charging and what comes in the box.
Tech Advisor judged the Razr 50 broadly comparable to a higher-end foldable experience at a lower price in its review, while noting camera and performance compromises. 91mobiles advised power users and camera enthusiasts to weigh conventional alternatives. Those were review-era assessments, not a current price comparison; check local offers and competing models before deciding. Tech Advisor and 91mobiles explain their assessments.

What did the Razr 50 cost, and does it come with a charger?
Reported prices are historical review snapshots, not current offers. Tech Advisor listed the US model at $699.99 in its August 22, 2024 review; 91mobiles reported ₹64,999 in India in its review published September 13, 2024 and updated November 5, 2024. Check current local pricing, availability and warranty terms before buying.
Box contents vary by market. GSMArena’s reviewed package included a case and USB-C cable but no charging adapter. 91mobiles reported that its Indian unit came with a compatible charger. Verify the package for the exact retailer and SKU before buying an adapter; a charger is not universally included or universally an extra purchase.
Who should buy the Motorola Razr 50?
It suits you if
- You specifically want a clamshell foldable that closes into a compact shape.
- You value a cover screen that can do more than show notifications.
- Your everyday use is mostly communication, browsing and social apps.
- You want a rated level of water resistance and understand that it does not cover dust.
Look elsewhere if
- You prioritize demanding gaming or consistently top-tier speed.
- You need dependable low-light photography, telephoto reach or more consistent portraits.
- You regularly use your phone in sandy or dusty environments.
- You expect especially fast wired charging.
Verdict
The Motorola Razr 50 gets the core appeal of a flip phone right: it folds down compactly, and its large cover display makes the closed phone genuinely useful. Water resistance and solid video and web endurance add to the case for it as an everyday device. But its midrange performance, uneven camera results, modest wired charging and lack of official dust protection are meaningful compromises. It is a good fit when the foldable form and cover screen are priorities; it is a less convincing choice when speed, cameras or ruggedness come first.
