The North American base Motorola Razr (2025) is worth considering if you want a compact flip phone with a useful cover screen and better-than-expected battery life for a foldable. Its trade-offs are less impressive performance for demanding tasks, inconsistent camera results, and the extra care any foldable needs. Motorola also sells separate Razr+ and Razr Ultra 2025 models; their specifications differ, so this assessment covers only the base Razr.
What the base Motorola Razr (2025) offers
Motorola lists a 3.6-inch external display and a 6.9-inch inner display for the base model. The smaller screen makes the folded phone more useful than a device that only serves as a compact package: Motorola says you can use supported apps, check notifications, and reply to messages without opening it. Reviewers also found the outer screen practical for framing selfies with the rear cameras.

These dimensions are not shared across the whole 2025 Razr family. Motorola lists a 4.0-inch external display on the Razr+ and a 7.0-inch inner display on the Razr Ultra, while the Razr+ also has a 6.9-inch inner display. Check the exact model name when comparing listings and reviews. Motorola’s 2025 family announcement describes the model distinctions.

Pros of the Motorola Razr (2025)
A compact flip design with a genuinely useful cover screen
The main advantage is the way the phone changes shape without making the outside screen an afterthought. You can handle quick checks and replies while the phone is folded, then open the larger display when a task needs more room. Using the rear cameras with the cover screen as a viewfinder is also handy for selfies and group shots: the cameras can face the subject while you see the framing.

Good battery endurance for a foldable
The base model has a 4,500mAh battery, according to TechRadar’s 2025 review. TechRadar reported stronger endurance than earlier Razr models it had used, and Ars Technica’s testing found it should last through a day. Treat that as a favorable showing for this foldable class, not a promise of multi-day use: screen time, signal conditions, and demanding apps affect how long any phone lasts.
A lower-cost entry to the Razr experience
Independent reviews position the base Razr as a value-focused way to get the flip design and cover-screen experience, with compromises against more premium foldables. Whether it is a good deal depends on the price available when you buy; launch pricing is not a reliable guide to current offers.

Cons and ownership trade-offs
Performance is adequate, not a flagship strength
The Dimensity 7400X handles routine tasks such as scrolling and streaming, but TechRadar reported struggles with gaming and switching between apps. If demanding games or heavy multitasking are central to your routine, this is a meaningful compromise rather than a small specification difference.
Camera versatility does not guarantee consistent results
TechRadar identifies a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera, with macro capability adding flexibility. But reviewers also noted limitations in processing, motion capture, and consistency. The cover-screen selfie option is useful, yet the camera system is not the right reason to choose this phone if your priority is top-tier smartphone photography.

Expect a day of battery life, not several
Ars Technica’s testing supports all-day use, but heavy use of the large inner screen can leave less margin before bedtime. Battery results vary with how you use the phone; do not interpret a strong foldable-class result as multi-day endurance.
IP48 is limited protection, not permission to get the phone wet or dusty
Motorola’s North American 2025 user guide gives the phone an IP48 rating and describes controlled laboratory resistance in still fresh water up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The guide also says the phone is not waterproof or dustproof: avoid dust, salt water, pressurized water, prolonged or intentional submersion, and charging while wet. Resistance can decline with normal wear, so the rating is not a reason to take the phone to a beach or pool.

- Iconic design, now even more durable: Ultra-compact flip design featuring a stronger hinge plate made with titanium, beautiful finishes, and curated Pantone Colors.

- Elevated interactions with moto ai*: Capture professional-level photos and videos and enjoy personalized assistance thanks to the seamless integration of moto ai*.
Motorola also states that the crease at the bend and faint noise that may occur when opening the phone are part of the design and do not affect durability. That is the manufacturer’s statement, not an independent durability test. The guide warns that dust can shorten hinge life and damage the display. Read Motorola’s North American user guide for the model’s handling guidance.

The premium models are separate phones, not alternate names for the base Razr. Use model-specific specifications rather than borrowing figures from a neighboring model. The available family announcement establishes the display differences below; other comparative figures depend on the exact model and source.

| Model | External display | Inner display |
|---|---|---|
| Motorola Razr (2025), base model | 3.6 inches | 6.9 inches |
| Motorola Razr+ (2025) | 4.0 inches | 6.9 inches |
| Motorola Razr Ultra (2025) | Not stated in the family announcement | 7.0 inches |
These display sizes come from Motorola’s April 2025 family announcement. Before paying more for a premium model, compare current prices and the specifications that matter to you: demanding-task performance, camera consistency, battery endurance, charging, and water and dust handling. Do not assume a higher-tier phone resolves every trade-off without checking its own details.
Who should buy the Motorola Razr (2025)?
- Consider it if you want a pocketable flip phone, expect to use the cover screen for quick tasks, and value rear-camera selfies or the distinctive form factor more than flagship speed.
- Look elsewhere or compare carefully if you prioritize demanding games, intensive multitasking, consistently strong camera results, or a phone that needs little care around dust and water.
- Check the exact model before buying accessories. A case advertised for the Razr+ is not evidence that it fits the base Razr; require an explicit compatibility listing for the base Razr (2025).
