Its 90Hz screen, stereo speakers, headphone jack, microSD slot, light software and dependable battery suit calls, messaging, browsing, streaming and navigation. The 4G-only modem, slow eMMC storage, modest performance, HD+ display, average cameras, 15W charging and Motorola’s listed security-support end in January 2027 make it a poor choice at a price close to a newer Moto G or Galaxy A-series phone.
What is the Moto G24?
The Moto G24 is an inexpensive Android phone announced for the 2024 budget market. It launched with Android 14 and a MediaTek Helio G85 processor, and it uses 4G LTE rather than 5G. Motorola sells different RAM, storage, NFC and radio configurations by region, so the model number matters as much as the name.

Design, ports and durability
The 181g body uses 3D PMMA plastic, which keeps the phone comfortable and helps its matte finish resist fingerprints. A side-mounted fingerprint reader is built into the power button and is quick for ordinary unlocking. You also get USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers and a dedicated microSD option. Hardware-layout details are documented by Motorola.

Motorola describes the construction as having a water-repellent design. That means protection against accidental spills, splashes and light rain—not submersion, pressurized water or underwater photography. Motorola says the protection can diminish with age; there is no general basis for calling the phone waterproof or IP-rated. Colors and some hardware features vary by market.
Display: smooth scrolling, limited sharpness
The 6.56-inch LCD’s 90Hz mode makes lists, web pages and supported animations feel smoother than a 60Hz budget panel. Motorola claims a high-brightness mode of up to 537 nits in its launch material, which helps outdoors, although that is a manufacturer claim rather than a universal independent measurement.
The trade-off is the 1612 × 720 HD+ resolution. Text and fine graphics are visibly softer than on similarly sized 1080p screens, and LCD blacks and contrast cannot match OLED. A 90Hz refresh rate also does not accelerate the Helio G85: heavy apps may still pause, and Notebookcheck found slow gray-to-gray response that is unattractive for competitive gaming. The screen is fine for video, reading, maps and messaging, but not a reason by itself to choose the G24 over a newer sharper or OLED-equipped phone.

Performance and gaming
For calls, messaging, email, social networks, maps, music, YouTube and ordinary browsing, the Helio G85 is adequate. Its limits appear when opening complex apps, switching rapidly between many apps or installing large games. The eMMC 5.1 storage is substantially slower than modern UFS storage, so launch times and general responsiveness can feel behind newer budget phones.
In Notebookcheck’s tested configuration, Geekbench 6 scores were approximately 411 single-core and 1,423 multi-core. Those figures depend on software and test conditions; they are useful as comparative evidence, not a guarantee for every regional unit. The same review found the Galaxy A15 4G considerably faster, especially in single-core work.
RAM Boost borrows internal storage as virtual memory. It does not make 4GB of physical RAM equivalent to 8GB of fast RAM, and enabling it reduces free storage. Treat listings that advertise “8GB” or “16GB” carefully and confirm the physical-memory figure.

Gaming expectations
Casual games and undemanding 2D titles are reasonable. More advanced 3D games require reduced graphics settings and can still deliver inconsistent frame rates; the Mali-G52 MP2 is entry-level. The 90Hz panel cannot make a game render at 90 frames per second. Notebookcheck rated graphics performance weak relative to the phone’s general score.

Cameras: adequate daylight, ordinary everything else
The 50MP f/1.8 main camera uses Quad Pixel processing and PDAF; the second rear camera is a 2MP macro unit, and the selfie camera is 8MP. Features include Night Vision, Portrait, HDR, Pro mode, Google Lens and up to 4× digital zoom. Video tops out at 1080p/30fps. Full camera specifications are listed by Motorola.

What the main camera does well
In good light, photos are acceptable for messaging and social media. Autofocus is useful for everyday subjects, and Motorola’s pixel-binning approach can produce sensible file sizes and exposure.
Where it falls short
Notebookcheck found mediocre HDR, overexposed bright areas and only moderate fine detail. Night processing can brighten a scene, but detail drops noticeably. Selfies are decent outdoors yet can look dim, while the 2MP macro camera is too limited for meaningful enlargements. The 50MP label is not equivalent to flagship image quality: processing, dynamic range, lens quality and low-light performance matter more than the headline pixel count.

Battery life and charging
The 5,000mAh cell is one of the G24’s strongest features. Motorola advertises up to 40 hours, a usage-dependent manufacturer estimate. In Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test, the phone lasted about 16 hours 9 minutes—decent endurance for this class. A full recharge took up to approximately 2.5 hours with the 15W limit.

Endurance and charging speed are separate issues: light and moderate users can often finish a day comfortably, but frequent top-ups are frustratingly slow by 2026 standards. Maximum brightness, continuous mobile data, GPS navigation, gaming, poor reception, 90Hz operation and an aged battery all reduce runtime. Used or old-stock units should be judged by actual battery condition rather than the launch claim.

Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound good for the price, with some low-mid presence, and the headphone jack is a practical advantage. Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth and microSD cover basic home and media use. Notebookcheck also reported support for several Bluetooth codecs, including LDAC.
The phone is LTE-only. Exact LTE bands differ by regional variant; the US support page lists bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40 and 41, but that does not guarantee full support on every carrier. Before importing one, verify the model number, supported bands, VoLTE requirements, SIM configuration, NFC, charger plug and warranty. A European unit should not be assumed to work fully on every US network.

Software and update runway
Android 14 and Motorola’s lightly customized My UX interface are straightforward, with little of the visual clutter found on some budget phones. Motorola’s UK product page currently lists security support through January 2027: official product page. Motorola’s update portal warns that plans can change and that timing varies by region and carrier: update portal.
That date is the key 2026 limitation. It concerns security support, not a promise of identical Android-version upgrades, Google Play system updates or app support. Apps may continue updating after Motorola’s listed endpoint, but a buyer seeking several years of security coverage should choose newer hardware.
Quick Recap
Moto G24 comparisons
| Alternative | Why it may be better | Why the G24 may still appeal |
|---|---|---|
| Moto G24 Power | 6,000mAh battery versus the standard model’s 5,000mAh | The Power is a different phone; do not transfer its weight, charging or camera conclusions to the G24 |
| Samsung Galaxy A15 4G | Notebookcheck found substantially stronger performance and a better display proposition | The G24 offers Motorola’s simpler interface, stereo speakers, headphone jack and potentially lower discounted price |
| Redmi 13C | May offer newer platform value where discounted and officially supported | Compare exact regional software, bands, warranty and current price before choosing |
| Newer Moto G | Usually longer support runway and newer hardware when prices are close | The G24 can be worthwhile only when its discount is genuinely large |
Who should buy the Moto G24?
- Someone who needs an inexpensive LTE phone for calls, messaging, browsing, streaming, maps and light photography.
- A buyer who specifically values a headphone jack, microSD slot, stereo speakers and a relatively uncluttered interface.
- A light or moderate user buying new or refurbished stock with a healthy battery, clear return rights and a warranty.
- Anyone finding it substantially cheaper than current entry-level phones and accepting limited remaining security support.
Who should skip it?
- Anyone who needs 5G or plans to keep the phone for several years.
- Gamers, heavy multitaskers and buyers who regularly edit video or run large apps.
- Photographers seeking reliable HDR, low-light detail or 4K video.
- Buyers who want OLED, Full HD+, fast charging or the longest update commitment.
- Anyone considering an imported unit without confirmed LTE-band compatibility, warranty coverage and a usable return policy.
Buying checklist for 2026
- Compare the total price with current 2025–2026 Moto G and Galaxy A-series phones; do not use the historical €129 European launch MSRP as a current US price.
- Confirm the exact model number, physical RAM, storage, NFC, SIM setup and LTE bands for your country and carrier.
- For used or refurbished stock, check activation status, last security-patch date, battery health, warranty and return window.
- Confirm whether the box includes a charger; a higher-wattage charger cannot make the phone exceed its 15W limit.
- If you add a microSD card, remember that it expands media storage but does not speed up the phone’s eMMC system storage.
