Verdict: The Motorola Moto E6s still handles calls, messaging, music, navigation and light browsing, but it is now a legacy Android 9 phone. Buy one only at a very low used or refurbished price, preferably the 4 GB/64 GB variant with a healthy battery, confirmed carrier compatibility and a useful return policy. It is a poor long-term primary phone because of uncertain security support, weak performance, Micro-USB charging and no NFC.
What the Moto E6s actually is
The Moto E6s is a genuine Motorola model introduced during 2019–2020 as a low-cost phone for selected Latin American, European and Asian markets, not one globally identical specification. It is closely related to the Moto E6 Plus, but listings can describe materially different E6s hardware. A phone labelled “Moto E6s” may have 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage or 4 GB and 64 GB, a 5 MP or 8 MP selfie camera, and a 5 W or 10 W charger.

Check the model number, country, RAM, storage, SIM layout, charger and LTE bands before buying. Do not confuse it with the separate Moto E6: Motorola’s E6 specification page lists a Snapdragon 632 and USB-C, while E6s documentation lists a MediaTek Helio P22 and Micro-USB. See Motorola’s launch announcement, Moto E6 specifications and Moto E6s specifications.

Specifications are compiled from Motorola US, Motorola India and Motorola Italy. The 4 GB model is the substantially better purchase: 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage leave little room for modern apps.
Design, display and ports
The plastic body is light for a 6.1-inch phone, and supported versions include a rear fingerprint reader, headphone jack and dedicated microSD slot. Micro-USB is the major everyday drawback: it limits cable convenience, charging speed and accessory compatibility compared with USB-C. There is no NFC, so contactless payments and many NFC accessories are unavailable.
The 6.1-inch 720 × 1560 HD+ panel is adequate for messages, video and navigation, but less crisp than current Full HD+ displays. It lacks modern OLED contrast, HDR and high-refresh-rate smoothness. Independent coverage found outdoor readability, especially in direct sunlight, disappointing (Indian Express).
Motorola describes the coating as water-repellent. It is not protection for immersion, swimming, or pressurized water (Motorola’s disclaimer). On a used phone, inspect the screen for cracks, dead zones, ghost touches, discoloration and uneven brightness.
Performance: basic use only
The Helio P22 was entry-level at launch and is slow by 2026 standards. The 4 GB version keeps more apps in memory and feels noticeably less constrained than the 2 GB model, but neither is suitable for demanding multitasking, video editing or large 3D games.

- 30W TurboPower charging + over a day battery. Get hours of power in just minutes of charging, then work and play with unbelievable battery life**.
- Standout design. Make a statement with its stunning look, modern color, and soft, vegan leather finish.
Tasks it can still handle
- Calls, texts, email and light browsing.
- Music and basic video streaming.
- Navigation and social apps, with patience.
- Simple 2D games and casual photography.
Tasks to avoid
- Graphics-intensive gaming.
- Heavy multitasking or current camera-processing features.
- Long-term use with many demanding apps.
Launch-era reviews judged everyday speed acceptable for a roughly £99 phone but warned about demanding games and sluggishness (Tech Advisor; Expert Reviews). Those 2020 conclusions should not be read as a 2026 buying recommendation.
Cameras
The higher-tier model combines a 13 MP autofocus main camera, 2 MP depth sensor and 8 MP selfie camera. The Italian configuration documents a single 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP selfie camera. In good daylight, the main camera can produce usable snapshots; low-light detail and dynamic range are limited. The depth sensor enables portrait blur, not telephoto or ultrawide photography. Documented reviews describe basic Full HD video.
TechRadar found the camera serviceable for its original price, while Expert Reviews called it mediocre. The practical conclusion is the same: acceptable daylight photos, but not a reason to buy this phone in 2026 (TechRadar, TechRadar camera review, Expert Reviews).
Battery life and charging
Both documented versions use a 3,000 mAh battery. Motorola advertised all-day use and lists a 10 W charger for the common configuration; the Italian page lists 5 W. Tech Advisor recorded 8 hours 41 minutes in a Geekbench 4 battery test and only 23% charge after 30 minutes from empty in its test setup. Those are historical laboratory results, not a promise for a used phone (Tech Advisor).
Battery endurance now depends more on age, signal, brightness and background apps than on the original specification. Some contemporary coverage highlighted a removable-style design, but replacement batteries sold today may be old, counterfeit or unsafe.

- This refurbished product is tested and certified to work properly. The product will have significant blemishes and/or significant scratches, dents, or frame damage. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, and may arrive in a generic box.
Used-phone battery checks
- Ask for battery-health information or a real-world usage report.
- Look for a lifting back cover, which can indicate swelling.
- Charge from near-empty for several minutes and watch for overheating or shutdowns.
- Confirm it remains stable under moderate use.
Android version, updates and security
The E6s launched with Android 9 Pie, and Motorola’s specification pages still identify Android 9. App updates from Google Play are not the same as operating-system or security updates. Older Android requirements may eventually make some apps unavailable or unreliable.
Motorola says update availability depends on product, region, carrier and software channel, and that devices no longer listed receive no further operating-system or security updates. The official material does not establish one final patch date for every E6s variant. Check the exact phone rather than assuming a universal date.
- Patch level: Settings → System → About phone → Android version (wording can vary).
- Updates: Settings → System → Advanced → System updates.
Use the Motorola security-update page for the relevant region. Android 9 and uncertain support make the E6s unsuitable for several more years of banking, work authentication or other security-sensitive use.
Storage, SIMs and carrier compatibility
Motorola lists microSD support up to 512 GB on US/India documentation and up to 256 GB on the Italian page. A card can be formatted as portable storage or adopted as internal storage. Adopted storage is tied to the phone and is harder to move between devices; Motorola recommends a faster UHS-1 card for that use (SIM and SD instructions).
Before purchase, confirm single- or dual-SIM layout, SIM size, LTE bands, unlocked status and VoLTE compatibility with your carrier. A model imported from India or Europe may lack bands or VoLTE required by a US network. Also check that the IMEI is clean and the phone is not Google-account locked.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
Setup and troubleshooting
Insert a SIM or microSD card
- Insert the eject tool into the tray hole.
- Gently push until the tray pops out.
- Place the SIM and card in the marked orientation; tray layouts differ.
- Reinsert the tray and format the card if prompted.
Factory reset safely
Back up photos and contacts, remove the SIM and microSD card, record or remove the Google account, charge the phone, then use Settings → System → Advanced → Reset options → Erase all data. Menu wording varies, and the process deletes accounts, media and installed apps (Motorola support).
Common fixes
- Slow: free internal storage, remove unused apps, restrict background activity, restart, and reset only after backing up.
- Not charging: try a known-good Micro-USB cable and charger, inspect and gently clean the port, and stop using it if the battery is swollen or unusually hot.
- Fingerprint failure: clean and dry the sensor, re-register fingerprints and check for physical damage. Sensor hardware varies by market (Motorola hardware guide).
Used and refurbished buying checklist
- Identify the exact model, region, RAM and storage; prioritize 4 GB/64 GB.
- Verify unlocked status, LTE bands, VoLTE and IMEI/activation status.
- Test battery endurance, charging port, screen, fingerprint sensor, cameras, speaker, Wi-Fi and cellular service.
- Check that the Google account has been removed before resale.
- Prefer a meaningful return window and disclosed battery condition.
- Compare the total cost of a battery, charger, cable, microSD card or repair with a newer supported phone.
A Back Market UK listing crawled in 2026 showed a refurbished 64 GB E6s at £77 with a stated 30-day return period and 12-month seller warranty. That is a time- and region-specific example, not a stable market price (Back Market listing).
Who should buy it?
- Someone needing an extremely cheap backup, emergency or temporary handset.
- A basic caller and texter who accepts Android 9 and slow performance.
- A child’s simple first phone where expectations and security needs are limited.
Who should avoid it?
- Gamers, heavy multitaskers and mobile photographers.
- Anyone requiring contactless payments, USB-C or fast charging.
- People needing several years of security updates or dependable newer-app compatibility.
- Users whose carrier requires bands or VoLTE the imported model does not support.
Alternatives by category
A current price comparison would need a live check, but the sensible alternatives are a new entry-level Android phone with current support and USB-C, a later-generation used midrange phone with verified battery and updates, a supported refurbished Moto G-series model, or a feature phone if calls and texts are all that matter.
Final buying rule
Buy the Moto E6s only when it is the 4 GB/64 GB version, fully compatible with your carrier, equipped with a healthy battery and priced significantly below a newer supported entry-level phone. Otherwise, its low purchase price is likely to be offset by aging software, repairs and an early replacement.
