Motorola Edge 70 Plus: Why the Name—and “One and a Half Cameras”—Confuse

The Motorola Edge 70 Plus is not a straightforward upgrade over the standard Edge 70. Notebookcheck’s October 2026 coverage says the Plus was cheaper in its price comparison, while its clearest advantage was a larger battery. Its rear camera setup also explains the “one and a half cameras” jab: one high-resolution main camera, a low-resolution macro camera, and no ultrawide. That phrase is a reviewer’s shorthand, not Motorola’s own description of the phone.

What is the Motorola Edge 70 Plus?

It is the phone at the center of Notebookcheck’s October 6, 2026 naming critique, compared with the standard Motorola Edge 70. The confusing part is the label: “Plus” commonly suggests a more capable or higher-tier version, but Notebookcheck reported that the Plus was cheaper than the standard model in the manufacturer-price comparison discussed in its article. The sources do not include an explanation from Motorola for choosing the name, so the reason should not be treated as established.

Notebookcheck suggests that component-price pressures may help explain the product choices. That is the article author’s inference, not a confirmed account of Motorola’s strategy. A more grounded way to read the product is to look at what it prioritizes: a larger battery, while making compromises in camera versatility and other areas.

What does “one and a half cameras” mean?

The rear system consists of a 200 MP main camera and a 2 MP macro camera, according to Notebookcheck’s October 1, 2026 review. There is no ultrawide camera. “One and a half” is therefore a critical way of describing the usefulness of the pair—not a literal camera count or a technical specification.

The main camera is the useful one

Notebookcheck found that the 200 MP main camera takes detailed, attractive photos and performs well in low light. Its limitation is flexibility: with no ultrawide and no second high-quality rear camera, there are fewer ways to frame a scene or change perspective. The review also notes limited zoom; a high megapixel count does not by itself provide the versatility of a separate telephoto or ultrawide camera.

The macro camera has a narrow role

The 2 MP macro camera is intended for close-up subjects, but Notebookcheck judged its results barely useful beyond viewing on the phone screen. It may be present as a second camera, yet it does not compensate for the missing ultrawide in the kinds of everyday shooting where a second perspective matters.

The front camera is separate from that criticism

The phone has a 32 MP selfie camera. Notebookcheck described its selfies as nice-looking, while reporting a tendency to overexpose very bright areas. The “one and a half” description refers to the rear camera choices, not the front camera.

What does the Plus actually add?

The clearest advantage in Notebookcheck’s comparison is battery endurance. The Edge 70 Plus has a listed 6,500 mAh battery, and Notebookcheck reported that its review unit lasted 15% longer overall than its standard Edge 70 unit in the publication’s testing. That is a result from Notebookcheck’s devices and test methods, not a guarantee that every owner will see the same difference; usage, settings, network conditions, and test workload affect battery life.

There are also strengths beyond battery capacity. Notebookcheck praised the 6.78-inch AMOLED display for brightness and color accuracy, as well as the phone’s build quality and main-camera performance. The device supports microSD expansion up to 1 TB, which may be useful for people who store large photo or video libraries locally.

Where are the trade-offs?

  • Camera flexibility: the rear system lacks an ultrawide, and the 2 MP macro camera does not provide a strong alternative to the main camera.
  • Zoom: Notebookcheck describes camera zoom as limited, consistent with relying on a single useful rear camera.
  • Water protection: the review says the phone does not have protection against submersion.
  • Wireless networking: Notebookcheck reports comparatively slow Wi-Fi; the review’s finding does not establish how that will compare in every network setup.
  • Performance at its price tier: the review says competitors in the roughly €600 class can offer more processing power or a more flexible camera system. It does not provide an exhaustive current ranking, so buyers should compare models available in their own market at the same time.

Software support is a counterweight to those compromises. Notebookcheck reports Motorola’s promise of five years of security patches through 2031 and three OS updates. The source does not establish the delivered patch status for every region or retail variant, so check the specific model and market before buying if update timing is a priority.

Is the Edge 70 Plus a good fit?

It makes the most sense for someone who values battery life, a bright high-quality display, expandable storage, and a capable main camera more than multiple rear-camera perspectives or top-tier performance. The larger battery is the clearest reason to consider it over the standard Edge 70 based on Notebookcheck’s comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a weaker fit if you often photograph wide landscapes, interiors, groups in tight spaces, or distant subjects. In those cases, an ultrawide or optical zoom camera can matter more than the main camera’s megapixel count. It is also worth comparing performance and water protection if those are central to your use.

Price and availability depend on market

Notebookcheck reported availability in Europe and the Middle East for around US$680 at the time of its October 2026 review. That is a dated, region-specific report—not a current universal price, nor evidence that the phone is available in the United States or from every retailer. Confirm the exact regional model, seller, and current price before making a purchase decision.

If considering an alternative in the same approximate price class, compare prices from the same market and date, then check battery results under comparable tests, camera options, performance, display quality, storage expansion, and software-support terms. The Notebookcheck comparison supports the existence of trade-offs, but not a definitive ranking of all current competitors.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
