The Motorola Edge 40 is the more compact choice and adds 15W wireless charging; the Edge 50 Fusion has a larger screen and higher stated battery capacity. In Motorola India’s family listing observed on October 4, 2026, the Edge 50 Fusion was listed from ₹20,999, while the Edge 40’s 8GB/256GB listing was ₹26,999. Those figures are regional, volatile, and not a like-for-like configuration comparison.

Motorola Edge 40 vs Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: key specifications

Specification Motorola Edge 40 Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

These specifications come from different regional Motorola pages, so available memory, network bands, SIM or eSIM arrangements, and other details may vary by market and SKU. Check the exact model sold where you live before buying.

Which is better: Edge 40 or Edge 50 Fusion?

Choose based on the features you will use rather than the newer model name. The Edge 40 suits someone who wants a slightly smaller phone or values wireless charging. The Edge 50 Fusion is the more natural fit if you want a larger display and the higher stated battery capacity. Both cited display specifications list 144Hz, so refresh rate alone does not distinguish them.

Pick the Edge 40 for wireless charging and a more compact size

Its 6.55-inch display is 0.12 inches smaller diagonally than the Fusion’s, and the cited Edge 40 specifications include 15W wireless charging as well as 68W wired charging. Motorola’s 2023 launch announcement also claimed its 68W charger could provide median users up to 12 hours of battery life in 10 minutes under the company’s stated testing assumptions. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparative result.

Pick the Edge 50 Fusion for a larger screen and bigger stated battery

The Fusion’s 6.67-inch screen offers more display area, and its listed 5,000mAh capacity exceeds the Edge 40’s 4,400mAh. Battery capacity by itself does not establish longer real-world battery life: usage, software, network conditions, display settings, and other factors affect endurance. The cited India specifications list 68W wired charging but do not list wireless charging.

Do not choose on chipset names alone

The Edge 40 uses a MediaTek Dimensity 8020, while the cited India version of the Edge 50 Fusion uses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Chip names alone are not enough to establish which phone performs better in everyday use or games; no independent, controlled comparison is established here. Compare tests of the exact regional variants if performance is your deciding factor.

What is the price difference?

Motorola India’s family listing showed the Edge 40 at ₹26,999 for 8GB/256GB and the Edge 50 Fusion at ₹20,999, with 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB choices shown. These were observed regional listing prices on October 4, 2026, not guaranteed live prices. The displayed entry amounts differ by ₹6,000, but that is not a like-for-like comparison: the Edge 40 figure is specifically for 8GB/256GB, while ₹20,999 is the Fusion listing amount and the listed configurations include different storage tiers. Check the live price, exact configuration, seller, and condition before comparing.

The Edge 40’s European launch price was €599.99 in 2023, according to Motorola’s launch announcement. That is a historical European MSRP, not a current European selling price, and it should not be compared directly with the India listing amounts.

Camera comparison: what the specifications establish

Motorola’s Edge 40 launch announcement identifies a 50MP f/1.4 main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 13MP ultrawide camera that also supports macro photography. The cited Edge 50 Fusion specification material does not establish an equally detailed camera-by-camera comparison, so it is not enough to name a camera winner. For a decision based on photography, compare sample images and reviews of the exact regional versions rather than relying on this incomplete specification match.

Are the phones waterproof?

Motorola lists an IP68 rating for both models in the cited sources. For the Edge 40, Motorola says the rating was tested under controlled laboratory conditions, that resistance decreases with normal wear, and that exposure beyond the stated conditions is not covered by warranty. The launch disclaimer says: “Not waterproof.” An IP rating is not a promise that either phone is safe for deliberate underwater use; avoid exposing them to water beyond the manufacturer’s stated conditions.
