Moto G Power Unlock: Match the Fix to Your Lock Type

How do I unlock my Moto G Power? First identify what is locked. A carrier (network) lock, forgotten screen credential, SIM PIN or PUK lock, and bootloader lock are different problems controlled by different parties. The correct route may involve your original carrier, Motorola, your Google Account, or the SIM issuer; using the wrong route can waste time, erase data, or damage the phone.

Use the phone’s exact model and carrier history when following any instructions. The name “Moto G Power” covers multiple generations and carrier variants, and the available support material does not establish one procedure or eligibility rule for every version.

Identify the kind of lock before you change anything

Look at the message on the phone and at your goal. The table below separates the four cases most often described as “unlocking.”

A SIM from another carrier is rejected, or the phone asks for a network or subsidy unlock Carrier or network lock The original carrier; Motorola can help identify the registered network Allows use of an eligible phone on other networks. Eligibility, bands, provisioning, and features still determine whether service works.
You forgot the PIN, pattern, or password used to open the phone Screen credential Your Google Account recovery path or Motorola reset instructions Account recovery may restore access. A factory reset deletes data stored on the phone.

You want root access, custom software, or operating-system modifications Bootloader lock Motorola’s bootloader program, subject to exact-device eligibility Enables software modification when approved, but Motorola warns of damage, unsafe operation, and possible loss of warranty support.

Do not use a carrier unlock code for a forgotten screen PIN, a factory reset for a SIM PUK problem, or a bootloader code to change networks. Those procedures address different security layers.

Unlock a Moto G Power from a specific carrier

Motorola’s support guidance is unambiguous: “Only your carrier can unlock your phone.” Motorola does not remove a carrier’s network restriction on the carrier’s behalf. The carrier that originally sold or authorized the handset decides whether it qualifies and how the request is completed.

1. Find the original carrier

Check the purchase receipt, account history, packaging, or the SIM that was first used in the phone. If you cannot identify the network, Motorola says it can check the IMEI to help identify the registered carrier. Display the IMEI by opening the phone app and dialing *#06#. Record the number exactly; do not publish it in a forum or send it to an unverified unlocking service.

2. Confirm the exact model and variant

“Moto G Power” is not a single hardware configuration. Generation, regional model, network bands, and whether the phone was a carrier-exclusive edition can affect eligibility and later compatibility. Keep the model information from Settings, the box, or the purchase record when you contact support. A policy for one year or carrier variant cannot be assumed to apply to another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Ask the original carrier for its current eligibility rules

Carriers set their own conditions, which can include account status, payment or contract requirements, fraud or theft checks, and a waiting period. The available Motorola guidance does not establish one universal wait time, so do not rely on a generic number found in an old forum post. Ask the carrier which conditions apply to your IMEI and whether the unlock is automatic, app-based, or handled by an agent.

4. Follow the carrier’s official request process

Provide the IMEI and any account information through the carrier’s current support channel. Some phones receive an authorization remotely; others require carrier instructions or cannot be unlocked because of network or software restrictions. Keep the confirmation message and any case number until you have tested another SIM.

5. Understand the timing qualification

T-Mobile’s published policy says that an eligible device supporting remote unlocking is remotely unlocked within two business days. That is a T-Mobile policy statement for that eligible-device case, not a promise for every carrier or every Moto G Power. If your carrier gives a different estimate, its policy controls.

6. Test service without assuming universal compatibility

After the carrier confirms the unlock, insert the intended carrier’s SIM or follow that carrier’s eSIM instructions, then test registration, calls, text messages, and mobile data. An unlocked phone may still have limited functionality or fail to work on another network when technologies or supported bands differ. Verizon’s device-unlocking policy specifically warns that an unlocked device can have limited functionality or not work at all on another carrier.

Provisioning is another separate requirement. Motorola’s support material for the Moto G Power (2021) gives a model-specific example: Verizon users need a SIM provisioned for Verizon to use that model on Verizon. That example does not establish compatibility for newer or different variants, but it illustrates why a successful network unlock is not the same as guaranteed service.

If the carrier refuses the request

  • Ask which eligibility condition failed and whether the decision is tied to the IMEI, the account, or the model variant.
  • Confirm that the phone was not reported lost, stolen, or associated with an unpaid obligation; ask the carrier to explain its status rather than guessing.
  • Verify that you contacted the original carrier, not merely the network you want to use next.
  • Ask the destination carrier whether it supports the phone’s model, bands, SIM type, and required provisioning.

If the original carrier confirms that the device cannot be unlocked, a different handset that is sold as unlocked may be the practical alternative. That replaces the phone; it does not unlock the current Moto G Power.

Recover a forgotten screen PIN, pattern, or password

This is a screen-access problem, not a carrier problem. Motorola’s moto g power – 2026 User Guide states: “If you forget your pattern, PIN, or password, you can enter your Google Account email and password on another device to unlock the phone.” Use the account associated with the handset and follow Motorola’s current recovery instructions from another device.

Before choosing a reset

  • Check whether photos, contacts, messages, and documents are already backed up to your Google Account or another service.
  • Make sure you know the Google Account email and password used on the phone. If you cannot sign in, recover the account before taking destructive action.
  • Do not expect a carrier unlock or bootloader process to bypass the screen credential; they are unrelated.

When a factory reset is the remaining option

Motorola’s guide also points to factory-reset instructions and warns: “A factory reset will delete all data on your phone.” Treat that as permanent loss of local data unless you have a verified backup. A reset returns the handset to its setup state; it does not recover files that were never synchronized and does not remove a carrier’s network restriction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Use Motorola’s current “forgot my passcode” or factory-reset instructions for the exact Moto G Power generation, rather than mixing button combinations from another model.
  2. Read each warning on the phone before confirming. Stop if you discover that needed files are not backed up.
  3. After the reset, complete setup with the account and network information requested by the phone. If the device asks for account credentials previously associated with it, use the legitimate account-recovery route.

Because the available guide is specifically for the 2026 Moto G Power, menus and recovery behavior on earlier editions may differ. Identify the model before starting.

Handle a SIM PIN or PUK request

A SIM PIN protects the SIM card itself. It is not the same as the phone’s screen PIN and has nothing to do with bootloader unlocking. The 2026 Moto G Power guide says the carrier supplies the SIM PIN. If multiple incorrect attempts disable the SIM, the carrier must provide the PUK.

Safe procedure

  1. Stop entering guesses as soon as you are unsure of the SIM PIN. Repeated errors can move the SIM into a blocked state.
  2. Contact the carrier that issued the physical SIM or eSIM and request the correct PIN or PUK through its authenticated support process.
  3. Enter the PUK exactly as supplied, then set a new SIM PIN if the carrier or phone prompts you to do so.
  4. If the carrier says the SIM is permanently blocked, ask whether it can issue a replacement SIM while keeping your number and account.

Do not try a carrier network-unlock code, a Google Account reset, or a bootloader procedure for a SIM PIN or PUK prompt. None of those addresses the SIM’s security state.

What bootloader unlocking means—and why it is a separate, high-risk choice

Bootloader unlocking is for people who want administrative access, custom software, or operating-system changes. It does not make a carrier-locked phone compatible with another network and it does not recover a forgotten screen credential.

Check eligibility for the exact device

Motorola says most recent devices may be supported, but restrictions apply, including some service-provider-exclusive models. The eligibility decision is device-specific; the available material does not establish that every Moto G Power generation or carrier variant qualifies. Use Motorola’s official bootloader-unlock process and enter the exact device information it requests. Do not assume that a code for one model applies to another.

Read the live agreement before requesting a code

Motorola’s bootloader agreement contains this warning: “WARNING: MOTOROLA STRONGLY RECOMMENDS AGAINST UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER AND/OR MODIFYING OR ALTERING A DEVICE’S SOFTWARE OR OPERATING SYSTEM.” The warning reflects risks Motorola associates with software modification, including device damage and unsafe operation.

Understand support and warranty consequences

Motorola’s warranty material says that changing the operating system, including unlocking the bootloader or rooting, may permanently damage the product and that resulting damage may not be covered. The bootloader agreement also contains broader warranty-waiver language. Read the current terms displayed in Motorola’s live process; do not reduce those documents to an assumption that every warranty right disappears or that every repair will be refused.

A cautious decision checklist

  • Confirm that your goal is custom software or root access, not carrier service or screen recovery.
  • Back up data and document any software state you may need to restore.
  • Verify the exact model and carrier variant in Motorola’s eligibility checker.
  • Read every warning and agreement presented before accepting.
  • Proceed only if you accept the possibility of permanent damage, unsafe behavior, and reduced support.

If the eligibility checker rejects the device, do not substitute a third-party code or an unofficial flashing method. The restriction is part of Motorola’s device-specific program.

Use the symptom to choose the next action

Symptom Correct next action Do not do this
“SIM not supported,” network unlock request, or another carrier’s SIM will not register Find the original carrier with the IMEI and ask that carrier to check eligibility. Do not factory-reset the phone or request a bootloader code.
PIN, pattern, or password forgotten at the lock screen Try Motorola’s Google Account recovery guidance on another device; verify backups before any reset. Do not expect a carrier unlock to remove the screen credential.
“Enter SIM PIN” Use the PIN supplied by the SIM carrier. Do not guess repeatedly or use the phone’s screen PIN.
“Enter PUK” or SIM disabled after wrong PIN attempts Contact the SIM carrier for the PUK and follow its replacement process if necessary. Do not keep trying random codes.
You want root, a custom ROM, or other OS changes Check the exact device in Motorola’s bootloader program and read the live agreement. Do not assume bootloader unlocking changes carrier status or preserves warranty support.
Carrier says the phone is unlocked but service still fails Ask the destination carrier to check bands, network technology, account provisioning, and SIM or eSIM activation. Do not treat the word “unlocked” as a guarantee of full cross-carrier operation.

Model, country, and carrier details that can change the answer

The latest model-specific manual identified for this topic is the 2026 Moto G Power guide. A separate Motorola support result concerns activating the Moto G Power (2021) with Verizon. Those references should not be blended into one universal set of menus or eligibility rules. Earlier generations, regional editions, and carrier-exclusive hardware can use different software and network capabilities.

Before contacting support, write down the model designation, IMEI, original carrier, current SIM type, and the country where the phone was sold. Give all of those details to the carrier or Motorola. They are more useful than saying only “Moto G Power,” because the same family name spans multiple configurations.

Final checklist

  • Identify whether the problem is carrier, screen, SIM, or bootloader related.
  • For a carrier lock, use *#06# to obtain the IMEI and contact the original carrier.
  • Check eligibility and timing with that carrier; do not generalize another carrier’s policy.
  • After unlocking, verify destination-network compatibility and provisioning.
  • For a forgotten screen credential, try Google Account recovery and back up data before a reset.
  • For SIM PIN errors, stop guessing and obtain a PUK from the SIM carrier.
  • For bootloader changes, verify exact-model eligibility and accept Motorola’s stated software and support risks.
