Motorola’s Moto G (2026) is the better fit if you prioritize a larger battery on paper, a higher rated charging speed, or microSD expansion. The prices below come from dated MSRP sources—not live listings—and available evidence does not establish a universal winner for speed, camera quality, or battery life.
Which phones are being compared?
This comparison is between Motorola’s US Moto G (2026) and the US unlocked Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, not the LTE-only Galaxy A16. Samsung distinguishes the two models in its 2026 first-quarter interim report; the A16 5G and LTE versions have different processor options. Samsung’s detailed consumer specifications cited here come from its UK product page, so confirm the exact US SKU’s specifications before buying.

Price and value
Samsung’s US MSRP list effective March 2026 prices the 128GB unlocked Galaxy A16 5G Blue Black (model SM-A166UZKAXAA) at $169.99. Motorola announced a $199.99 US launch MSRP for the Moto G (2026) in 2025. These figures come from different dated sources, and Samsung says its prices may change without notice; neither figure establishes a current sale price or availability. Check live listings for the exact storage configuration and unlocked or carrier version before deciding which costs less today.

Tom’s Guide reports that the Moto G (2026) receives two Android-version updates and one additional year of software support. On the commitments documented here, Samsung offers the longer support horizon. For a phone you intend to keep for several years, that difference may matter more than a small hardware advantage today.
Display, cameras, and what the specifications can tell you
The reviewed Moto G configuration has a 6.7-inch LCD with 1604 × 720 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s corporate report lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2340 × 1080) display for the A16 5G. Samsung’s listed resolution is higher, but the sources do not provide a matched display comparison; confirm regional specifications for the phone you plan to buy.

Motorola lists a 50MP main and 2MP macro rear camera, plus a 32MP selfie camera. Samsung lists a 50MP main and 13MP front camera. Those megapixel counts do not show which phone takes better photos, and no matched camera test is established here. Choose neither on camera quality alone without consulting comparable sample photos or testing the exact models.

Motorola lists a 5,200mAh typical-capacity battery and advertises up to two days of use under its stated conditions. Samsung’s UK product page lists a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery for the Galaxy A16 5G. Capacity and manufacturer estimates are not substitutes for a same-conditions runtime test.

Tom’s Guide reports 19 hours and 11 minutes in its cellular web-browsing battery test of the Moto G (2026). There is no equivalent Galaxy A16 5G result in the evidence cited here, so that test cannot establish which phone lasts longer in a direct comparison.
The Moto G supports up to 30W TurboPower charging when used with a compatible 30W-or-higher charger. Motorola says a charger may be sold separately depending on market. Samsung lists 25W Super Fast Charging, with the wall charger sold separately. Motorola therefore has the higher rated charging ceiling on paper, but no matched charge-time test is available.

Storage expansion and protection from water
The Moto G has 128GB of internal storage and supports a microSD card up to 1TB; the card is sold separately. The cited Samsung sources do not establish whether the compared US Galaxy A16 5G variant supports microSD, so verify its exact specification rather than assuming it lacks expansion.

Samsung rates the Galaxy A16 5G IP54 and describes limits and test conditions for its water-spray protection. Motorola describes the Moto G as water-repellent, but says it is not designed to be submerged or exposed to pressurized water. These are different protection claims; neither should be treated as proof that a phone is waterproof.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Galaxy A16 5G if the longer stated software-support commitment is important, or if its dated $169.99 US MSRP is still below the Moto G’s price when you shop.
- Choose the Moto G (2026) if you value its 30W rated charging, 5,200mAh stated battery capacity, or confirmed microSD expansion up to 1TB.
- Compare current listings carefully if price is the deciding factor: the cited MSRP dates differ, and neither is a verified current checkout price. Check storage, unlocked status, carrier compatibility, and the exact regional model.
- Do not pick a winner based on speed, camera quality, or real-world battery life from these specifications alone; no matched tests establish an advantage for either phone in those areas.
