The game is listed for PS5 and is optimized for Xbox Series X|S, but the available official store descriptions do not document console graphics modes, target resolutions, frame-rate targets, HDR behavior, or separate Series X and Series S performance. The responsible approach is to inspect the settings on your installed build, record exactly what your console exposes, and judge any modes with the same scenes and display setup.
This guide shows what is known, what remains unverified, how to check your own build, and how to compare options if a current update adds them. It does not turn PC settings or community anecdotes into console recommendations.

What is actually confirmed about the console versions
The official PlayStation listing identifies Mortal Shell 2 as a PS5 game. The official Xbox listing says it is optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Those listings establish platform availability and broad game features, not a graphics menu or a guaranteed performance target.

| Platform | Confirmed | Not established by the available evidence |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | The game is listed as a PS5 title. | Current graphics-menu labels, resolution modes, frame-rate targets, HDR options, image-quality differences, and whether settings vary by display. |
| Xbox Series X | The Xbox listing includes Series X in the optimized Xbox Series X|S release. | Series X-specific resolution, frame-rate behavior, graphics presets, or a comparison with PS5. |
| Xbox Series S | The Xbox listing includes Series S in the optimized Xbox Series X|S release. | Series S-specific resolution, frame-rate behavior, graphics presets, or a comparison with Series X. |
“Optimized” is a platform-store designation, not a promise that every model uses the same settings or that a particular frame rate is maintained in every scene. Without a current build number and controlled measurements, choosing a supposed quality or performance mode would be speculation.

Why a single “best” preset would be misleading
Console recommendations depend on the exact game build, console model, display, and the options the developer currently exposes. A patch can add, remove, rename, or repair a toggle. A television or monitor can also change how a mode looks: HDR support, refresh rate, black-level handling, and motion processing all affect the result even when the console setting is unchanged.
The available evidence does not establish two verified console graphics modes to compare. It also contains no console benchmark that would justify saying PS5 is sharper than Series X, that Series S uses a particular resolution, or that one platform holds a specific frame rate. Treat any page making those claims without a named build, test method, and console model as unverified.
Check your installed build before changing anything
Use this checklist on each console separately. Record the information in a note or screenshot so you can tell whether a later update changed the menu.
- Record the date. Write down the day you inspect the game. The current update context can change quickly.
- Record the console model. Identify whether you are on PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S. Do not combine Series X and Series S observations.
- Record the game version or build number. Use the version information shown by the game or the platform software, if available. If no build number is visible, note that it was not displayed rather than guessing.
- Capture the complete settings menu. Take screenshots or transcribe every graphics, display, camera, motion, and accessibility option exactly as labelled.
- Note when changes apply. Test whether a change is immediate, takes effect after returning to the game, or requests a restart. Do not assume a toggle worked because its label changed.
- Keep the display setup constant. Use the same television or monitor, input, picture preset, HDMI mode, and refresh-rate configuration when comparing options.
This process produces a platform-specific answer instead of importing settings from a different edition or an older patch.
How to look for graphics controls in Mortal Shell 2
No current official guide in the available material gives a guaranteed menu path or confirms that a graphics submenu exists on console. Start from the game’s title or pause interface and inspect every settings category rather than relying on a remembered PC layout. Write down the exact wording and available choices. If a control is absent, record it as absent; do not infer that the console uses a hidden equivalent.

For each option you find, capture four details:
- the exact label and every selectable value;
- whether it affects resolution, frame pacing, lighting, effects, motion, or only the user interface;
- whether the game requests a restart or reload;
- what you can observe in the same repeatable scene after changing it.
If a setting has no visible difference, repeat the comparison after fully applying it and restarting when requested. A toggle that appears ineffective may be working subtly, may be limited to certain scenes, or may be affected by a bug. You cannot distinguish those cases from the label alone.
Settings categories to verify if your build exposes them
The following are test categories, not claims that Mortal Shell 2 currently includes each control. Use them to organize your notes when the live console build presents comparable choices.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteResolution or image-quality modes
If the menu offers named modes, copy the names exactly and identify what each mode is intended to prioritize only when the game itself explains it. Do not relabel a mode “quality” or “performance” based on assumptions. Compare fine geometry, distant detail, foliage, texture stability, and shimmering in the same camera position. A mode that looks sharper in a static view may feel less responsive during combat, while a mode with steadier motion may show softer detail; both observations need to be tied to the tested build and display.
Frame-rate or refresh options
If a frame-rate choice is shown, note whether it is a target, a cap, or simply a menu description. The available material provides no measured console frame-rate figures. You can report an observed difference only after testing with a repeatable route and suitable measurement method; otherwise describe the setting as unverified. Do not convert a store listing’s “optimized” wording into a numerical promise.
HDR and brightness
Look for HDR, paper-white, peak-brightness, black-level, or calibration controls. Record whether the game detects HDR automatically and whether changing the console’s system HDR setting changes the in-game menu. A bright picture is not automatically a correct HDR image: clipping highlights or crushing dark detail can make a mode appear better while losing information. If no HDR controls are present, use the console and display’s documented calibration instead of inventing game-specific values.

Motion blur, camera effects, and field of view
Some games expose motion blur, depth of field, film grain, camera shake, or field-of-view controls. These affect comfort and clarity rather than establishing a universal performance winner. If available, compare one change at a time and keep the value that improves your own visibility or reduces discomfort. Record the exact default before changing it so an update or reset can be reversed.
Accessibility and subtitle presentation
Accessibility settings can alter contrast, text size, color treatment, aim or camera behavior, and other presentation details. They should be documented separately from graphics modes because a readability option may not change rendering performance. Check whether an accessibility change persists across saves and profiles.
The Adaptive Difficulty option is not a graphics preset
An unofficial update summary dated September 5, 2026 reports an experimental Adaptive Difficulty option for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. It says the option is off by default and located under Game > Game Settings. This is a gameplay-difficulty control, not a resolution, frame-rate, HDR, or image-quality setting.
Because that report is not an official patch-note confirmation, verify the option in the live game before relying on it. If it appears, record the exact wording, default state, and platform. Do not present its presence as proof that a graphics menu exists, and do not expect changing it to improve performance or visual quality.
What the historical PS5 toggle report does—and does not—show
GamesRadar described a pre-patch PS5 situation in which some graphics toggles did not appear to change the game for that writer. That is one historical account tied to an earlier state of the software. It does not establish that the current PS5 build has the same problem, that every player experienced it, or that Xbox versions behave similarly.

If a PS5 option seems ineffective today, test it methodically: apply one change, accept any restart prompt, reload the same area, and compare a fixed camera view and a short movement sequence. Note the build and date. If the result still appears unchanged, restore the default and report the behavior to the developer with those details rather than treating the old report as a current diagnosis.
A repeatable way to compare modes on your own console
Use the following procedure only if your installed build exposes two or more settings that are intended to differ. It avoids turning a subjective first impression into a platform-wide claim.
- Choose a repeatable scene. Use the same area, lighting conditions, camera angle, and character state for every pass. Avoid comparing a dark interior with an outdoor scene.
- Warm up the session. Load the area fully and wait for streaming or shader activity to settle before judging clarity or smoothness.
- Change one variable. Leave all other options at their recorded defaults. Apply the first mode, then capture notes or video if permitted.
- Repeat with the second mode. Return to the same location and camera position. If the game requests a restart, perform it for both modes.
- Check image quality. Examine distant edges, fine textures, shadows, reflections, and temporal stability while both the camera and character move.
- Check responsiveness and pacing. Use the same combat or traversal actions and note obvious hitching, uneven motion, or input delay. Do not assign a numerical frame rate without an appropriate measurement.
- Check display compatibility. Confirm that HDR, refresh rate, and television processing did not change between runs.
- Document uncertainty. If the difference is too small to establish reliably, say so. “No clear difference observed on this setup” is more accurate than claiming the modes are identical everywhere.
Repeat the process independently on PS5, Series X, and Series S when those consoles are available. A result from one model cannot be generalized to the others.

PS5
Start by confirming the installed version and listing every display-related control shown by the PS5 build. The official listing confirms the platform, but no current official graphics guide supplies recommended values. Treat any apparent toggle failure as a test result for your dated build, not as a permanent characteristic of the game.
Xbox Series X
The Xbox store entry includes Series X in the optimized release. It does not state a separate resolution or frame-rate target. Record the Series X model explicitly and compare only options exposed on that build. Do not substitute a PS5 observation for an Xbox recommendation.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Xbox Series S
Series S is included in the same optimized Xbox Series X|S listing, but no separate Series S figures are established. Expecting the Series S menu or output to match Series X without checking is an assumption. Record its options, restart behavior, and observed image or motion differences independently.
Troubleshooting when a setting seems to do nothing
The label changes but the picture does not
Confirm that you accepted the change, returned to gameplay, and completed any requested restart. Re-test a scene where the option should matter, such as distant detail for an image-quality choice or rapid camera movement for a motion choice. If there is still no visible difference, record the build and restore the default.
The game looks darker or washed out after changing HDR
Check the console’s HDR output, the display’s HDMI input mode, and the display’s own picture preset. Make one adjustment at a time and keep a note of the original values. A mismatch between console and display ranges can look like a game-setting problem even when the game option is functioning.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Performance changes after an update
Recheck the version number and repeat your baseline scene. Updates can alter defaults or behavior, so an older screenshot is not proof of current operation. Keep dated notes rather than carrying an old recommendation forward.
Different players report different results
Compare their console model, build, display, HDR state, and exact menu values before drawing a conclusion. Differences in any one of those variables can explain conflicting impressions. Community reports are useful leads for what to verify, not substitutes for a documented test.
How to publish or share a trustworthy recommendation
A useful recommendation should name the platform, console model, game build, test date, display configuration, exact menu labels, and whether a restart was required. Separate direct observation from interpretation. For example, “the menu offered two named choices; in the same scene I observed steadier motion in one and softer distant detail” is testable. “This is the best mode on every console” is not supported without broader evidence.
If your build exposes no graphics choices, say that plainly and focus on display calibration, accessibility, and the settings that are actually present. If it exposes choices but they produce no repeatable difference, report that behavior with the same qualification. This protects readers from applying a result outside the conditions in which it was observed.
Bottom line for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players
For now, the most accurate answer is a verification workflow rather than a preset: Mortal Shell 2 is listed on PS5 and optimized for Xbox Series X|S, but current console graphics values and platform-specific performance targets are not established here. Inspect the live menu on each console, record the build and defaults, test any alternatives under identical conditions, and treat the September 5, 2026 Adaptive Difficulty report and the older PS5 toggle report as leads to verify—not as graphics recommendations.
