A Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo save can be transferred to the full game, and you do not have to finish the demo first. The demo’s documented endpoint is the “To the Forest” mission.
The official PlayStation and Xbox listings specifically confirm save-data transfer and say earned Awards or achievements can carry over. They do not publish a field-by-field inventory of equipment, items, currencies, quest flags or crafting materials, so those details should not be treated as guaranteed individually.

What the official listings guarantee
The core rule is the same across the platform listings: the Prologue Demo can provide save data for the full version. This is a transfer of the demo’s save rather than a promise that every visible progression field is preserved independently.

These statements establish a supported import path, not a detailed migration specification. Neither listing identifies every field that is copied, overwritten or recalculated.

What carries over from the Wilds demo
Save data is the supported transfer unit
The guaranteed feature is the ability to transfer the Prologue Demo save into the full version. That means the demo is not an isolated trial whose progress is automatically discarded when you buy the game. The transfer is tied to the save-data process described by the platform store listing.
Earned Awards and achievements can carry over
The PlayStation listing says Awards earned in the Prologue Demo can be carried over. The Xbox listing uses the corresponding achievement language. This is important for players who completed optional objectives while testing the demo: the platform can recognize those earned records during the transfer.
Trophies and achievements are not guaranteed to unlock without replay
Both listings include a qualification. Even when an Award or achievement record transfers, some conditions for the related trophy or achievement may have to be fulfilled again in the full game. In practical terms, the imported save can preserve the relevant completion state while the full version still asks you to repeat a qualifying action before granting the platform-level trophy or achievement.
Do not interpret “can be carried over” as “every trophy will pop immediately.” The official wording deliberately leaves room for conditions that are checked again by the full game.
Individual inventory fields are not itemized
The store pages do not provide a list of transferred weapons, armor, consumables, currencies, materials, crafting recipes, quest flags or other progression fields. Because that list is absent, it would be inaccurate to promise that every item visible in the demo will appear in the full game exactly as it was.

The safest reading is narrow: the save can be imported, and Awards or achievements have documented carry-over behavior. Any claim about a particular piece of equipment, amount of currency or completed quest would require an official field-by-field statement that the listings do not provide.
Do you have to finish the Prologue Demo?
No. The PlayStation Store description explicitly says the demo does not need to be completed before the save is transferred. You can stop playing earlier and still use the supported transfer process when you move to the full game.
The demo’s stated scope runs from the prologue through the “To the Forest” mission. That mission is the published endpoint, not a requirement for eligibility. Reaching it may give you more demo progress to bring forward, but it is not a prerequisite imposed by the transfer rule.
This distinction matters if you are deciding whether to buy the full game after a short trial. You do not need to grind through the entire demo merely to make the save transferable.
How to approach the transfer without blocking it
The listings establish the eligibility rules but do not publish a universal menu path, button label or screenshot. The exact prompt can therefore vary by platform version. Use the following sequence as a safe process based on the documented restriction.

- Keep the Prologue Demo save available. Finish, pause or leave the demo at any point; completion is not required.
- Install and start the full version before creating ordinary full-game save data. The PlayStation listing says a transfer cannot be performed once full-game save data already exists.
- Choose the demo-save transfer option when the full game offers it. The store descriptions confirm the capability, although they do not specify the exact wording of the on-screen command.
- Allow the full game to complete the import before beginning a new full-game progression path. Avoid creating a separate new save first, because that can put you into the existing-save state that disables transfer.
- Check your imported state and platform records. Confirm that the expected demo progress is present, then remember that a related trophy or achievement may still require its condition to be performed again.
If you have already launched the full version and made a save, the official PlayStation wording says the transfer option will not be available. The listing does not describe a supported way to merge that save with the demo data, nor does it give a recovery procedure, so do not assume that deleting or replacing files will produce a valid import.

An existing full-game save is present
This is the one explicit blocker documented by the official listings. On PlayStation, the transfer cannot be used if full-version save data already exists. Creating a new character or otherwise saving in the full game before importing can therefore remove the option you expected to see.
The screen or wording is different from a guide
The listings confirm the feature but do not define a shared interface. A platform guide that uses a particular menu name may not match your edition or software update. Look for the full game’s own save-data import or demo-transfer choice rather than relying on an exact label from another platform.
The save or achievement result is not what you expected
There is no official field list explaining every item or quest flag. A missing piece of equipment, material or currency cannot be identified as a transfer failure from the store description alone. Likewise, an Award or achievement that does not unlock immediately may be following the documented rule that its condition must be repeated in the full game.
For a platform-specific failure beyond the stated existing-save restriction, consult the game’s current support documentation. The store listings themselves do not publish additional causes or a repair workflow.

How trophies and achievements behave after import
There are two separate records to keep in mind:
- In-game or platform Award data: the PlayStation listing says Awards earned in the demo can be carried over.
- The final trophy or achievement trigger: some conditions may be checked again in the full version, so the related trophy or achievement may not unlock at the moment of import.
That separation explains why an imported save can be correct even when a notification does not appear immediately. If the full game asks you to repeat an action connected with an earlier demo accomplishment, completing that condition again is consistent with the official warning rather than evidence that the entire save failed.

If you only played part of the demo
You can proceed to the full game without replaying the demo solely for transfer eligibility. The published rule does not require completion, and the demo’s endpoint remains “To the Forest.”
If you completed the demo and earned Awards
Start the full version with the demo save available and use its transfer choice before making a new full-game save. Your earned Awards can carry over, while any related trophy or achievement should be treated as conditionally transferable rather than guaranteed to unlock instantly.
If you already began the full game
On PlayStation, the official listing says an existing full-game save makes the transfer unavailable. The published material does not state that the two saves can be merged, and it does not provide a safe method for replacing the existing save. Preserve your current data and rely on official platform or game support for any next step instead of assuming an unlisted workaround.

“I must reach the demo’s final mission.”
False. “To the Forest” is the demo’s documented endpoint, but the PlayStation listing expressly says completion is unnecessary for transfer.

“Every demo item is guaranteed to appear.”
Not established. The official pages confirm save transfer but do not enumerate inventory, equipment, currency, materials or quest-state fields.
“A transferred Award always unlocks its trophy immediately.”
Not necessarily. The listings warn that some trophy or achievement conditions may need to be completed again in the full version.
“I can create a full-game save first and import later.”
That is contrary to the PlayStation listing, which says the transfer option is unavailable when full-game save data already exists.

Bottom line for buying and starting the full game
The Prologue Demo is a usable starting point for Monster Hunter Wilds, not a disposable preview. You may transfer its save without finishing the demo, and the documented “To the Forest” endpoint is not a completion gate. Earned Awards or achievements have carry-over support, subject to the warning that some trophy and achievement conditions must be repeated.
The critical timing rule is to import before creating full-game save data. Beyond that, keep expectations precise: the official listings confirm the transfer mechanism and the Awards or achievement behavior, but they do not promise a separately documented result for every inventory item or progression field.
