Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2: Graphics and Performance Settings to Change First

For docked play, start with Prioritise Frame Rate if you want the steadier-looking option, or choose Prioritise Resolution if image sharpness on a large, close-viewed screen matters more. Neither published docked mode targets 60fps: both target 30fps, and Capcom warns that demanding scenes can still cause drops.

Handheld play has one published configuration rather than a documented quality/performance selector. The numbers shown for every mode are output targets, not guarantees of a fixed internal render resolution.

The short answer: choose between two 30fps docked targets

Capcom’s 2026 performance table lists two docked choices for Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2. Prioritise Resolution targets a 2240 × 1260 output at 30fps. Prioritise Frame Rate targets a 1920 × 1080 output at 30fps. The practical decision is therefore sharper output versus a mode intended to give motion and frame pacing more priority—not 30fps versus 60fps.

Capcom has not published a 60fps Switch 2 target. Both docked modes remain 30fps targets, and the company says frame rate may drop in some high-load situations. Treat “30fps” as the target behavior, not a promise that every fight, weather effect or crowded area will hold a locked 30.

In handheld mode, the published table lists 1536 × 864 output at a 30fps target. No second handheld mode is documented in the available Capcom information, so do not assume that a hidden handheld performance switch exists until the retail game’s menu or a later patch confirms one.

What the published Switch 2 modes actually mean

Play mode Named option Output resolution target Frame-rate target What it prioritises
Docked Prioritise Resolution 2240 × 1260 30fps Higher output detail
Docked Prioritise Frame Rate 1920 × 1080 30fps Motion and performance headroom
Handheld One listed configuration 1536 × 864 30fps No documented alternate selector

These are the values published by Capcom for the Switch 2 version in 2026. They describe the image sent to the display. They should not be read as guaranteed native internal rendering resolutions.

Docked mode 1: Prioritise Frame Rate

Choose it when motion matters more than extra output pixels

Prioritise Frame Rate is the sensible first selection for players who notice uneven motion quickly, play action games from a typical sofa distance, or would rather give the renderer more room in busy scenes. Its listed output target is 1920 × 1080 at 30fps. Because the alternative is also a 30fps target, selecting this mode does not unlock 60fps; it is a preference-based choice within the same published frame-rate class.

The recommendation is an inference from Capcom’s targets, not a laboratory measurement of frame pacing. The lower output target may reduce the amount of image detail the system must produce, which is why it is the more practical starting point for a performance-conscious player. Capcom nevertheless warns that frame rate can drop during high-load situations, so this mode should not be described as a locked 30fps mode.

Who is most likely to prefer it

  • Players who value consistent-looking camera movement and aiming over fine distant detail.
  • Players sitting several feet from a television, where the difference between the two output targets may be less obvious.
  • Players who expect large hunts, effects-heavy attacks or busy environments to challenge the renderer.

Docked mode 2: Prioritise Resolution

Choose it when the display and viewing distance make sharpness obvious

Prioritise Resolution targets 2240 × 1260 output at 30fps. That is a higher output target than the 1920 × 1080 value listed for Prioritise Frame Rate, so it is the appropriate first choice for someone who sits close to a large television and prefers cleaner fine detail, sharper silhouettes and more legible distant scenery.

  • Towards Prosperity – Invest in the village to unlock better gear and upgrades.
  • Build Your Business – Upgrade your shop and attract more customers.
  • The Endless Vault – Take on tougher trials for greater rewards.

It remains a 30fps target, not a quality mode that raises the frame-rate ceiling. The higher output target can also leave the system more exposed when the game is under heavy load. Capcom explicitly cautions that frame rate may drop in high-load situations, so choose this mode for its image preference rather than expecting a steadier frame rate.

When the extra output target is worthwhile

  • A large 4K display viewed from a relatively short distance, where softness is easier to see.
  • Players who spend more time surveying landscapes, reading visual detail and taking in scenery than reacting to rapid camera movement.
  • Setups where the television’s scaling makes a 2240 × 1260 input look preferable to 1920 × 1080.

The last point is a viewing preference, not a claim that every television will produce the same result. Display processing, distance and personal sensitivity determine whether the difference is noticeable.

Why “Does Wilds run at 60fps?” has a cautious answer

No published Switch 2 specification in the available Capcom table sets a 60fps target. The docked entries are both 30fps targets, and the handheld entry is also a 30fps target. That means buyers should plan around 30fps and should not select either docked option expecting a 60fps mode.

A target also is not the same as a lock. Capcom’s performance note says that frame rate may drop in some high-load situations. Large encounters, multiple effects, dense scenery or other demanding moments may therefore run below the target temporarily. The accurate description is “30fps target with possible drops under load.”

Do not import assumptions from the PC version or from unrelated console settings. The Switch 2 information does not establish an uncapped mode, frame generation, variable-refresh-rate support or a 60fps option.

Handheld mode: one listed configuration

Capcom lists handheld play at a 1536 × 864 output target and 30fps. Unlike docked play, the published table does not show separate “Prioritise Resolution” and “Prioritise Frame Rate” entries for the handheld screen.

That leaves a straightforward starting point: use the single listed handheld configuration and evaluate the image and motion on your own console. There is no documented handheld quality/performance selector that can be recommended from the published specifications. If the launch build exposes an additional option, its exact behavior should be checked against the in-game description and patch notes rather than inferred from the docked labels.

What the handheld number does—and does not—tell you

1536 × 864 is the listed output target. It does not prove that every frame is internally rendered at that exact resolution. Capcom says render resolution changes with system load and that upscaling is applied when the internal rendering resolution falls below the output resolution. Image clarity can therefore vary between calm scenes and demanding gameplay.

Output resolution is not guaranteed internal resolution

Capcom’s performance note, reproduced by Nintendo Everything, states: “Render resolution changes depending on system load. If rendering resolution falls below output resolution, upscaling will be applied.” This qualification is central to interpreting all three numbers.

In practical terms, a mode can send a 2240 × 1260, 1920 × 1080 or 1536 × 864 image target to the display while rendering internally at a lower resolution during a demanding moment. The game then reconstructs or enlarges that image to the output target. You may see softer foliage, effects or distant objects in those moments even though the selected mode has not changed.

Nintendo Switch Monster Hunter Rise Deluxe Edition System - Switch
  • This Nintendo Switch system takes you to new heights with art inspired by the flagship monster, magnamalo, from the action-RPG title monster Hunter Rise.
  • The eye catching metallic artwork features game inspired iconography on the Nintendo Switch Console, Joy-Con controllers, and the Nintendo Switch dock.
  • As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a digital code for monster Hunter Rise + Deluxe kit DLC that includes the game and additional in-game content.

For that reason, avoid calling the listed values “native resolution.” “Output resolution target” is the more accurate term, and it carries the load-dependent behavior Capcom describes.

How to set up your choice when the game is available

  1. Decide where you will play first. Docked and handheld have different published configurations. Do not use the docked comparison to predict a separate handheld toggle.
  2. If docked, identify your priority. Pick Prioritise Frame Rate for the performance-oriented starting point, or Prioritise Resolution for the sharper-output starting point.
  3. Keep the 30fps expectation. Neither docked label represents a 60fps mode. Assess the result as a 30fps-target experience.
  4. Play a demanding section before judging the setting. Check movement during combat, camera turns and effects-heavy encounters, not only a quiet camp or menu.
  5. Look for drops rather than assuming a fault. A brief slowdown in a high-load scene is consistent with Capcom’s warning. If the behavior is severe or persistent, check the game’s launch notes and later patch notes for confirmed changes.
  6. Recheck the menu after updates. The Switch 2 release is scheduled for December 4, 2026, and launch patches can change labels or add controls. Use the options actually present in your installed build.

The published material does not provide an exact button path for reaching the graphics selector, so the menu name and location should be verified in the retail interface rather than guessed in advance.

A decision guide for common setups

Your setup or priority Starting choice Reason
Large television, close seating, maximum image detail Prioritise Resolution 2240 × 1260 output target offers the higher listed docked output.
Sofa-distance viewing, motion sensitivity or concern about busy scenes Prioritise Frame Rate 1920 × 1080 output target gives the performance-oriented option while retaining a 30fps target.
Handheld play Single listed handheld configuration 1536 × 864 output target at 30fps; no second handheld mode is documented.
Expecting 60fps Neither docked mode No 60fps Switch 2 target has been published.

This table is a way to map the published targets to preferences, not a claim that one mode wins every test. Your display size, viewing distance and sensitivity to motion determine which trade-off is more convincing.

Controls and features that are not confirmed

The available Switch 2 performance information does not enumerate individual controls for texture quality, foliage, shadows, volumetric fog, anti-aliasing, frame generation, variable refresh rate or an uncapped frame rate. Those options may exist in another build, but they are not established by the published table.

Do not apply PC tuning guides to the Switch 2 version without confirmation. If the launch menu contains additional settings, read their descriptions and compare them with the game’s patch notes. If it does not, the two docked presets and the single listed handheld configuration are the choices supported by the published information.

Release timing and what to verify at launch

Capcom announced the Switch 2 version for December 4, 2026. As of the current pre-release information, that date is still in the future, so retail availability, day-one patches and final menu wording remain time-sensitive.

At launch, verify three things before settling on a long-term preference:

  • Whether the installed build still presents the two docked labels and one handheld configuration described above.
  • Whether a launch update changes performance behavior or adds documented graphics controls.
  • Whether Capcom’s own patch notes revise the output or frame-rate targets.

Capcom has also said the Ascendance expansion is planned for Switch 2 in 2027. That future content does not establish a different graphics mode for the base release, so it should not be used to predict current performance.

Bottom line for your first setting

Start docked with Prioritise Frame Rate unless your main goal is the sharper 2240 × 1260 output on a large, nearby screen. Switch to Prioritise Resolution when image detail is more important and you accept the possibility of greater sensitivity to high-load drops. In handheld mode, use the one published 1536 × 864, 30fps-target configuration. Across all modes, expect a 30fps target, variable internal rendering resolution and possible drops during demanding scenes.
