In Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, armor spheres are the item you spend to level up armor pieces. There is no verified single “fastest” farm for them. Capcom doesn’t publish drop rates, and the quest-by-quest evidence available is partial. What can be said with confidence is how spheres work, which sphere tier to chase, and which player-reported habits are worth trying.
What armor spheres do
Capcom’s official Sunbreak web manual (the “Weapons & Armor” section) puts it plainly: “Use armor spheres to add the upgrade points required to level a piece up.” Three details from the same manual matter for farming:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Leveling armor with spheres raises its defense without changing how it looks.
- Different spheres grant different amounts of upgrade points, so the tier you farm matters as much as the count.
- Each piece has a maximum level, and those caps rise as you progress and the level cap opens up.
Capcom Support’s answer for the base game (written for the PlayStation 4 version) agrees: you pick the spheres, apply the points needed for a level-up, and both the spheres and money are consumed. So armor upgrading costs spheres and currency, and sphere farming only pays off if you also have the money.

Because sphere types differ in point value and level caps open gradually, a farm that suits you early in High Rank is not the one you want at the end of Master Rank. Before settling on a routine, check which sphere tier your next upgrade needs. Heavy, King and True Armor Spheres are treated as separate items in community guides, and each tier is tied to different stages of the game.
#1 Best Overall
- Journey to the West - In addition to the plethora of new hunts to complete, the immersive story will task Kamura’s valiant hunters with researching the secrets behind the puzzling anomalies plaguing the distant Kingdom. This pursuit will take players on a journey across the sea to a new base of operations called Elgado Outpost, where they will investigate powerful creatures known as the Three Lords, each inspired by staples of Western horror.
- New and Returning Monsters - The game will introduce Malzeno, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the lupine Fanged Wyvern Lunagaron, the towering Garangolm, and new subspecies such as Blood Orange Bishaten. Hunters will also encounter numerous fan-favorite and returning species from previous Monster Hunter games including the voltaic Astalos.
- Combat Evolved - The “Wirebug” mechanic that allows for unparalleled freedom of movement and mobility returns! Hunters using the new facilities at Elgado Outpost will also be able to master all-new combat options and Wirebug techniques for all weapon types. More information on these new abilities will be shared in the future.
- New Locales - Featuring all-new maps with no loading times such as the newly revealed Citadel locale, the continuous gameplay ensures that players will remain on their quests as soon as the hunt begins, without transitions between areas.
- Hunting Options - Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in online co-op play on Nintendo Switch or PC. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone via a local connection!
Leads on where spheres come from
Quest rewards
Guide site Game8 lists two King Armor Spheres as a reward for the Master Rank 6 urgent quest “The Sun Will Rise Again.” That entry comes from a search excerpt of the page, and the complete reward tables for Heavy and True Armor Spheres could not be confirmed. Treat it as a pointer: open the quest in your own game and read its reward list before planning around it.
Optional subquests
Players on Reddit asked whether they must “spam side quests” to get spheres. Replies suggest completing optional subquests while hunting, so a single run does double duty. This is anecdotal. Nobody supplied a measured rate.
Rank #2
Gathering rock lizards
Another player report points to collecting rock lizards during quests, with one poster mentioning a level 4 Dango Summoner and lizards in the Volcano area, mainly for Heavy and King spheres. Again, this is a single player’s account, not an official statement or a timed test, so it is not shown to be the most efficient method.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat does not count as a sphere source
- Anomaly Quest rewards. Capcom’s Anomaly Quest manual describes afflicted materials from part breaks and carving. It never says these activities give armor spheres, so don’t expect sphere drops from them.
- Weekly event quests. A 2022 Capcom announcement said a new event quest would arrive each week at that time. It says nothing about spheres, and it doesn’t show what is available today.
How to choose a method
When you compare two possible routes in your own game, judge them on these points:
Rank #3
- Experience Monster Hunter Rise and its massive expansion Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in one convenient set!
- Monster Hunter Rise (full game)
- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (expansion)
- Experience the thrill of the hunt! Explore new maps and take on fearsome new monsters using a new, dynamic style of hunting action where you can traverse more freely than ever before.
- The ultimate hunting thrill awaits you in Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What progression is required? | Some quests are only open at certain ranks or after story milestones. |
| Which sphere tier, and how many? | Point value differs by type, so two of one tier is not equal to two of another. |
| Is the reward guaranteed or a chance? | Quest-listed rewards and gathered or random items behave differently. |
| How long and how hard is it? | A slow, safe run can beat a fast one you often fail. |
| Does it also progress something else? | Subquests and hunts that fill other goals are worth more. |
No published numbers fill this table for every method yet. Time a couple of runs yourself and keep the one that gives the most of the tier you need per hour.
