Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can you play Arena Quests in Monster Hunter Rise with friends? Capcom’s official manual explains the Arena’s fixed loadouts, timed objective, and Buddy restriction, but it does not confirm whether every Arena quest supports multiplayer or specify an Arena party size. The game’s general multiplayer rules describe Hub quests, not a blanket rule for Arena quests, so don’t assume that every Arena challenge allows a full four-player group.
What makes an Arena Quest different?
Accept Arena Quests from Master Utsushi in the Gathering Hub or Master Arlow in Elgado. Unlike a hunt where you prepare your own gear, the Arena provides predetermined weapons, armor, and items. You can inspect the available choices on the equipment screen after departing for the quest. Meals provide no benefit during an Arena Quest. Capcom’s Arena manual describes the objective plainly: “You complete the quest by slaying the monster within the allotted time.”

Arena rewards also differ from an ordinary monster hunt: regular monster materials are not awarded. You may receive special materials, useful items, and Kamura points instead.
What multiplayer rules can you rely on?
Monster Hunter Rise’s general multiplayer instructions direct players to Hub quests. You can create or join a Lobby, or send a Join Request so hunters in other Lobbies can join an eligible Hub quest already in progress. Lobbies can host up to four players, and everyone must be playing the same game version. Village quests are single-player, not multiplayer.
#1 Best Overall
- The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
- The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
- New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
- In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
- Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!
Those are general Hub multiplayer rules—not confirmation that every Arena Quest is multiplayer-enabled. Capcom’s Arena instructions do not state an Arena-specific party limit or whether all Arena Quests permit other hunters. The four-player Lobby limit therefore should not be treated as an Arena party-size guarantee.
How Arena and Hub hunts differ
| Feature | Arena Quest | Multiplayer Hub quest |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment and items | Predetermined loadouts are provided. | The cited Arena instructions do not describe Hub loadouts. |
| Meals | Meals provide no benefit. | The cited Arena instructions do not describe Hub meal effects. |
| Buddies | No Buddies may accompany hunters. | Each player may bring one Buddy. |
| Objective and rewards | Slay the monster within the time limit. Regular monster materials are not awarded; special materials, useful items, and Kamura points may be. | The cited Arena instructions do not describe Hub quest rewards. |
| Multiplayer information | The official Arena passage does not establish support for every quest or an Arena party size. | Hub quests are the documented route for playing with other hunters; Lobbies host up to four players. |
The Buddy distinction is explicit: Capcom’s Buddies manual says Arena hunters cannot take Buddies, while each player in a multiplayer Hub quest may bring one. Offline Hub hunters may take up to two.

Platform requirements for general multiplayer
Online access requirements depend on platform. Check the relevant Capcom instructions for your system, since service requirements can change:
- Nintendo Switch: Internet play requires an internet connection and Nintendo Switch Online membership. The manual also documents local co-op for up to four players, with each player needing a Switch console and game copy. Switch multiplayer instructions.
- Steam (PC): Multiplayer requires an internet connection and Steam sign-in. Steam multiplayer instructions.
- PlayStation: Online play requires PlayStation Network sign-in and PlayStation Plus. The manual describes online play across PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5. PlayStation multiplayer instructions.
Practical answer before you gather your group
If your goal is a confirmed co-op hunt, use a Hub quest and arrange a Lobby or Join Request. If you specifically want an Arena Quest, check its quest listing in-game rather than assuming it permits multiplayer or supports four hunters: the official Arena rules cited here do not settle either point. Expect fixed equipment and items, no meal benefit, no Buddies, a timed kill objective, and no regular monster-material rewards.
