The key difference is where the hunt happens. Monster Hunter Outlanders is announced as an exploration-led mobile adventure with field hunts and companions; Monster Hunter Now turns the player’s real-world surroundings into a hunting ground. As of October 3, 2026, Outlanders was still upcoming, so this is a comparison of its announced concept with Now’s released features—not a head-to-head gameplay review.

How the games build a hunt
Outlanders: an exploration-led mobile adventure
Capcom’s September 29, 2026 announcement describes monster hunts and field exploration alongside companions gathered from different regions. A September 2025 official trailer calls the game an exploration action RPG and promotes a vast, immersive world, with a team-building and weapon-mastery premise. Those are the game’s announced positioning and promotional descriptions, not verified findings about the final map or shipped systems. Capcom announcement · Official trailer description

Capcom names TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent Games subsidiary, as developer and says the controls are optimized for mobile. The announcement does not establish whether exploring the field means moving through a fixed in-game world, physically walking in real locations, or some combination. Do not assume it works like Now on that point.

Now: your surroundings become the field
Monster Hunter Now is explicitly tied to real-world exploration. Its official overview describes going around the player’s surroundings, completing quests, collecting materials at real-world gathering points, forging and upgrading weapons and armor, and joining nearby multiplayer hunts. Paintballs provide a way to mark monsters for hunting later. Official overview

These details describe the launch-era design; the game has continued to evolve. Official launch announcement
How to choose based on how you want to play
Choose based on your play context—not a quality ranking
- Prefer an adventure centered on exploring a broader game world? Outlanders is the announced fit, with field exploration, monster hunts and regional companions. Its actual launch experience was not yet verifiable on October 3, 2026.
- Want hunts linked to walks, errands or outdoor time? Now is the established choice: its field is built around real locations, with gathering, quests and nearby group hunts.
- Need compact sessions? Now’s launch description specifically promoted one-handed play and 75-second hunts. There is no comparable confirmed Outlanders session length in the cited announcements.
- Expecting to team up? Now’s nearby group hunts are documented. Outlanders has announced companions, but that does not by itself confirm multiplayer or co-op rules.
- Deciding whether to wait or install now? As of October 3, 2026, Outlanders had a Capcom-announced October 29 release date, while Now was already available globally. Check the current store listing for availability and regional timing.
Outlanders is the less certain side of the comparison
Now can be described using its released-game overview and dated launch and update announcements. Outlanders, by contrast, was still pre-launch at the comparison date: its official descriptions establish its premise, platforms, release date and announced business model, but not final performance, live features or the complete gameplay loop. The fair distinction is therefore announced exploration-led adventure versus proven real-world play—not a verdict that one game is better.

Now has also added systems since launch. Its September 2025 Season 7 announcement covered weapon-style customization, cooperative local exploration bases, choosing monster groups, seasonal monsters and changes to weapon-material requirements. These are dated examples of an evolving live game, not a guarantee that each feature remained unchanged in October 2026. Official Season 7 announcement
