Mononoke No Kuni is a planned action-adventure from Lights-Interactive, published by Happinet for Steam, with a 2027 target year. Its official pitch promises a combat system built on chained attacks, dodges, guards and parries, along with purification encounters. The official site and Steam listing reviewed for this article do not describe boss fights at all, so the claim of heart-touching boss fights is currently unsupported. The battle system is a documented promise; the boss fights are not yet.

The official site introduces Taiki, a lonely boy who loses his only family, his puppy Musashi. He prays at a shrine and sees Musashi returned as an “Inubashira,” described as a divine canine. The Steam listing describes Musashi as a Shiba Inu and says Taiki sets out to recover his companion’s stolen soul. The journey takes him into an otherworld of mononoke and yokai.

The combat system as advertised
The Steam store description is the most detailed source on combat, and every claim below is what the listing advertises rather than something verified through play.

Attacks, dodges, guards and parries
The listing says players can chain charge attacks with dodges, guards and parries. These options are what the game’s “engaging battle system” promise rests on. Whether the timing windows, enemy responses and chaining feel satisfying can only be judged from hands-on play or a final build.
Purification as a combat layer
Steam calls the system a purification action system. The yokai in the game are described as beings with sorrowful stories rather than simple enemies. The listing describes using an ōnusa to soothe souls and return them to Yomi, and it says the player helps mononoke villagers restore their settlements. The official wording reads: “The yokai that block your path are not mere enemies.”

- It states there is no stamina gauge.
Neither point confirms how difficulty or pacing would change in the final game, and both should be treated as store-page statements.
Boss fights: what is and is not established
The headline promise is “heart-touching boss fights,” and this is where the available evidence is weakest. The official site and the Steam description cover the premise, combat mechanics, purification encounters and village restoration. Neither page, as reviewed, uses the word “boss” or describes a boss encounter, its structure, its staging or its emotional design.

- Not established: that boss fights exist, how many there are, or whether they carry the emotional weight the title implies.
- Not established: that the emotional payoff of the story is delivered through combat rather than through village restoration or dialogue.
If you want to judge the boss-fight claim, look for footage or a hands-on account from a build that shows an encounter from start to finish. Until one exists, the phrase should be read as the headline’s hope, not as a documented feature.

How to check the claims before you buy
- Confirm the parry and casual-mode options in the final build. The store description may change before launch.
- Look for boss-encounter evidence. Trailers, store screenshots or a hands-on report that shows a boss fight from beginning to end would test the headline claim directly.
- Wait for a confirmed price and edition list. The official site gives only “coming soon” for MSRP, and no editions are stated.
- Compare your hardware with the current listing. Use the minimum and recommended figures above, and recheck them when the store page is updated.
Evidence limits
No independent review of a final build is available, and the Steam listing reports no user reviews. The advertised features on the store page have not been checked through play, so readers should treat them as the developer’s and publisher’s description of the game. Everything in this article reflects what those two pages stated on 9 October 2026.
Taken together, the evidence supports a clear statement: Mononoke No Kuni is advertising a combat system built on chained attacks, parries and purification, with a story about a boy and his revived puppy. It does not yet support a claim that its boss fights are a strength, because the sources reviewed do not describe them.
