The right monochrome laser multifunction printer (MFP) depends on how much you print and how you handle documents—not just the advertised pages-per-minute figure. For a home office, print, scan and copy may be enough. A busy small office may also need fax, an automatic document feeder (ADF), network connections and automatic two-sided scanning. Check the exact model’s current availability and specifications in your region before buying.
What makes a monochrome laser MFP a good fit?
A monochrome MFP combines black-and-white printing with some or all of scanning, copying and faxing. The label “all-in-one” does not guarantee the same functions on every model: Xerox’s B305 listing specifies print, copy and scan, while Brother’s MFC-L2750DW documentation includes fax as well. Xerox’s B Series listing and Brother’s MFC-L2750DW page illustrate why buyers should check the function list rather than infer it from the category name.

For text-heavy work, compare the machine’s workload fit and document handling alongside speed. A fast printer can still slow an office down if staff must feed pages individually, turn over two-sided originals by hand, or share it through an inconvenient connection.
Choose functions around your document flow
Print, scan and copy
For occasional scanning and copying, a flatbed scanner may be sufficient. If you regularly process multi-page documents, look for an ADF and check its sheet capacity and supported paper sizes in the exact regional specification sheet. Neither the Xerox B305 listing cited here nor the Brother legacy page establishes that every currently sold regional configuration has identical options.

Fax, duplex printing and duplex scanning
Fax is a separate function, not an automatic part of every MFP. Likewise, automatic duplex printing and automatic duplex scanning are different capabilities. Duplex printing saves manual page-turning when producing two-sided output; duplex scanning matters when digitizing or copying two-sided originals. If that work is routine, verify duplex scanning specifically—do not assume that duplex printing means the scanner handles both sides automatically.
The discontinued Brother MFC-L2750DW page documents automatic duplex printing and single-pass duplex copying and scanning. It is useful as an example of how manufacturers distinguish these features, not as a current recommendation.

Match capacity and speed to the people using it
Consider monthly print volume, peak-day demand, the number of users and how often several people need the machine at once. Manufacturer workload and speed figures are specifications, not independent proof of performance under your office’s conditions. For instance, Xerox lists the B305 at up to 40 pages per minute, for workgroups of 1 to 10 users, and with average monthly use of 6,000 pages. These are Xerox’s listing claims; the listing does not establish comparative test results or a guaranteed real-world output rate. See the Xerox B Series product listing.
Paper capacity also affects interruptions. The Brother MFC-L2750DW’s official page specifies a 250-sheet paper tray and 50-sheet ADF, but the model is marked discontinued in the United States. Those figures describe that legacy model, not a general standard for current MFPs. Check tray and feeder capacity for the exact model you are considering.

Estimate running costs, not just the purchase price
Before choosing a model, check the yield and local replacement cost of its toner, and whether it uses a separate drum or other replaceable consumables. Compare expected supply costs against your own print volume; a low purchase price alone does not show what the printer will cost to operate. The cited sources do not establish a current, like-for-like cost-per-page comparison across the models discussed here, so calculate it from the consumables and yields sold for your region.
Also verify that compatible supplies are available locally and that the exact cartridge or drum fits the precise model variant. Brother’s page identifies toner and drum as consumables for the MFC-L2750DW, but its discontinued status makes current supply and support checks especially important.

Check connections, space and local support
For shared office use, check whether the exact configuration offers Wi-Fi, Ethernet or both, and whether it supports the mobile-printing workflow your users rely on. The B305 listing cited here specifies built-in Wi-Fi; it does not establish every connection or feature available in every region. Measure the available desk or shelf space, and consider noise and access to the paper tray and scanner lid. Confirm warranty, service and consumable availability in your country rather than assuming that a product page for another market applies.
What the evidence can—and cannot—say about quality and reliability
The cited material provides specifications and buying criteria, but it does not establish comparative print-quality results or independent long-term failure rates for the named monochrome MFPs. Xerox’s B Series page uses the promotional phrase “performance and reliability you can count on”; that is a manufacturer claim, not independent comparative reliability evidence. No model in this article can therefore be ranked as the most reliable on this evidence.
For your own shortlist, look for model-specific, independent assessments of text output, scanning, build and ownership costs, and seek service and warranty information for your market. TechRadar describes those as areas its printer testing evaluates, but its cited 2026 guide is not a monochrome-laser ranking, so its testing claims should not be transferred to the models above. TechRadar’s all-in-one printer guide, updated August 16, 2026.
Quick Recap
A practical shortlist checklist
- List the functions you actually need: print, scan, copy and, if required, fax.
- Estimate monthly volume, peak demand and the number of people sharing the printer.
- For multi-page or two-sided originals, verify ADF capacity and automatic duplex scanning—not only duplex printing.
- Check paper tray capacity, supported paper sizes and network connections on the exact regional model.
- Compare local toner and drum prices and stated yields; confirm compatible supplies are available.
- Confirm current stock, warranty and support in your country, especially for older or discontinued models.
- Treat speed, user-count and monthly-use figures as manufacturer specifications unless independent testing verifies them.
