MomTask AI is a personal project: a Hindi/Hinglish voice reminder assistant I built for my mother. The point was to fit one person’s language and routine—not to claim that mainstream assistants cannot set reminders in Hindi. Amazon and Google already offer relevant voice features, though the available functions depend on the product, device, account, and rollout.
The practical question is whether a custom assistant solves a specific friction in your family’s setup: speaking naturally, using a phone without navigating menus, or hearing a reminder in a particular place. A useful system also needs a way to confirm, review, and correct reminders—and should not be treated as a medical or safety guarantee.

What MomTask AI is—and what it is not
MomTask AI is a personal build for my mother, shaped around Hindi/Hinglish voice reminders. Public documentation does not independently establish its implementation, reliability, or results, so this account should be read as a description of a family project rather than a benchmark or a general product claim.

Amazon announced Hindi and Hinglish interaction on Echo devices in India in 2019, including the reminder example “Alexa, phone bill bharne ka reminder lagao.” That announcement documents a launch capability, not every current device or account configuration. Google’s Gemini app in India supports Hindi, and Google describes reminder setting among Assistant features available through Gemini. That does not mean every older Assistant feature behaves identically in Gemini.

Start with the interaction the person actually wants
A reminder assistant can be phone-based or hands-free in a shared room. These are different setups, not simply two versions of the same experience. A phone is more personal and can deliver a notification wherever the person carries it. A home speaker is available in a fixed location and can announce reminders aloud, but other people may hear them.
- Phone-first: Consider whether your mother has reliable access to the phone, can hear or see its alerts, and has a comfortable way to set and check reminders.
- Speaker-first: Consider where the device will sit, who else shares the room or household account, and whether spoken announcements are appropriate.
- Custom build: Identify the specific gap it addresses—such as preferred phrasing, a simpler confirmation, or a family-specific review flow. Do not assume a custom system is more accurate or reliable without testing it with the intended speaker.
Google’s Voice Access can control an Android device by speech, but Hindi is not among the languages listed in its current documentation. It should not be presented as Hindi voice navigation. Google also says speech processing is primarily on-device but can be sent to its servers depending on configuration and system language.

Compare the available paths before building
| Option | Language and reminder context | Delivery and review | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa on Echo | Amazon’s 2019 India announcement documented Hindi and Hinglish interaction, including the example “Alexa, phone bill bharne ka reminder lagao.” | Alexa+ help describes recurring reminders, spoken announcements, phone notifications, and review through Alexa or its app. | The 2019 announcement is historical. Alexa+ availability and features depend on rollout, account, and device context. Alexa+ help says reminders are visible to everyone in the household and default to ringing on the device where they were set. |
| Google Gemini app in India | Google says Gemini supports Hindi and describes reminder setting among the Assistant features available through Gemini. | Consult the current app and account experience for the reminder controls available to that user. | Do not assume all legacy Google Assistant features work identically in Gemini. |
| Google Assistant routines | Routines can start from voice commands or scheduled times and run multiple actions. | They can automate a sequence of convenience actions. | Google says availability varies by language, country, and eligible device, and routines are not for safety- or security-critical use cases. |
These options make a custom build a question of fit, not a prerequisite for Hindi/Hinglish reminders. If evaluating Alexa+ in India, check current eligibility: Amazon described its India launch as an Early Access rollout supporting English, Hindi, and Hinglish, rather than a universal availability statement.
Design the reminder flow around correction, not just creation
Recognizing a spoken request is only one part of a useful reminder. The person setting it should know whether the system understood the task, date, and time, and should be able to catch mistakes before relying on the alert.

- Designed for Home Assistant Voice & Music Workflows: Preloaded with Home Assistant Voice Assistant and Music Assistant. Functions as both a voice input terminal and an audio playback endpoint.
- Dual Microphones for Voice Capture: Built with dual digital microphones for wake word or button-activated voice capture. Audio is streamed to the Home Assistant voice pipeline.
- Integrated 3W Speaker for Direct Playback: The built-in 3W/4Ω speaker supports TTS playback, Music Assistant streaming, and system audio without external speakers.
- Linux-Based Local Operation: Runs a lightweight Linux system on a quad-core ARM A53 CPU with 256MB RAM and 512MB flash for local audio processing.
- Development & Debugging Capabilities: Supports firmware flashing, and also provides access to live logs, on-device editing—suitable for routine development or issue diagnosis.
- Capture the request: Let the person use their natural mix of Hindi and English. Amazon’s example is one documented phrasing, not a template for every speaker or accent.
- Confirm the interpreted details: Make the task and timing clear enough to notice a misheard word or date. Do not imply MomTask has a particular confirmation feature unless that is part of the actual build.
- Make review easy: Explain how the person can list upcoming reminders and change or cancel one. Amazon’s Alexa+ help describes review by asking Alexa or using the app; the exact controls available depend on the user’s context.
- Choose a delivery channel: Decide whether the reminder should speak aloud, appear on a screen, or arrive as a phone notification. A reminder set on one device may not be delivered in the way a family expects.
- Test ordinary failure cases: Check what happens when speech is misrecognized, the network is unavailable, a device is muted, or a reminder is set for the wrong time. State only failures and recovery steps that have actually been observed in the project.
Keep private reminders private
Shared speakers can expose reminder text to household members. Amazon’s Alexa+ help says reminders and tasks are visible to everyone in the household; Amazon’s developer guidance also warns that reminders may be announced or displayed on shared devices and advises against putting personally identifying or sensitive information in reminder text. Prefer discreet labels when other people might hear or see them.
For third-party Alexa skills, Amazon says the skill must obtain informed consent each time it creates a reminder on a user’s behalf. That is guidance for skills, not a universal description of every consumer reminder flow.

- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Google describes Assistant as waiting in standby for activation and sending a request to its servers after activation; Google also says audio recordings are not saved by default and points users to privacy controls. These are Google’s descriptions of its practices, not an independent privacy audit. Families should check the settings and account arrangements for the specific devices they use.

Do not rely on a general assistant for critical care
A voice reminder can support an ordinary routine, but it is not proof that a person heard, understood, or acted on an alert. Google Assistant Help states: “Routines are for convenience only, not safety- or security-critical use cases.” A general-purpose reminder should not be framed as a medication-safety guarantee or a substitute for a clinical or caregiver system designed for that responsibility.

For a personal project such as MomTask, describe the intended use narrowly: what routine it helps with, how a reminder is checked, and what the family does when an alert is missed or incorrect. Do not claim improved adherence, accuracy, or health outcomes without evidence.
Why voice can still be a worthwhile interface
Voice is relevant in India, but broad usage figures do not establish that a particular assistant works well for a particular person. Google India said in 2022 that the share of Indians using voice-search queries daily was “nearly twice the global average”; it did not give an exact percentage in that statement. That context helps explain interest in voice interfaces, not MomTask’s performance or adoption.
NITI Aayog’s senior-care report discusses digital assistants as a way to support routine management and hands-free access to information. That is a broad potential role, not evidence that a reminder assistant is a clinical intervention.
