Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Bhupinder Singh alias Bhuppi Rana were acquitted in the Balongi illegal arms supply case, according to a Hindustan Times report published on 3 October 2026. The same report says three other defendants were convicted and sentenced to three years in prison and fined ₹10,000 each.

What the Mohali court case involved

Hindustan Times reported that the case was registered at Balongi police station on 18 October 2023, after police received information about an alleged illegal weapons supply involving Saurav Kumar, Ranjit Singh and Shivraj Soni. Police alleged that weapons and ammunition had been brought from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, for supply to gangsters and associates in Punjab.

The report says police stopped the accused at a naka near a bridge on the road linking Balongi and Mohali Industrial Area, where they were allegedly found with weapons and ammunition. These are allegations described in the report about the case; they should not be treated as findings against Bhagwanpuria or Rana, who were acquitted.

Why Bhagwanpuria and Bhuppi Rana were acquitted

According to Hindustan Times, the defence argued that no weapon had been recovered from either man and that the case against them relied mainly on a co-accused’s statement. The newspaper reports that the court found their direct involvement in the supply had not been proved and acquitted them.

The trial judgment was not available for independent review, so the newspaper’s account is not a substitute for the court’s exact reasoning. No direct judicial quotation is established by the report.

Who was convicted and what sentence was reported

The newspaper reported that Saurav Kumar alias Ajay, Shivraj Soni and Kushar Ashish Ram Sarup were convicted and each received three years’ imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine. These are the penalties reported by Hindustan Times, not independently verified against the judgment.

Hindustan Times also reported that Ranjit Singh alias Kaka died during the trial and proceedings against him were closed.
