Artstorm, the developer of Modern Warships, acknowledged that the game’s RF Bartini A-2000-7 used concept artist Alex Jay Brady’s design as a reference without proper clearance. Brady said they had not given permission. Kotaku, reporting IGN’s estimate, put the cost at $50–$100 through gacha spins or as much as $700 for an outright purchase; those are reported estimates, not a verified fixed price.
What design is at the center of the dispute?
The vehicle identified in coverage as the RF Bartini A-2000-7 is an ekranoplan, a speculative craft that combines characteristics of surface and air vehicles. Brady created the concept in 2014. This is a story about Modern Warships, developed by Artstorm—not World of Warships.

Brady told IGN that the in-game design was “the same, with a few minor differences,” according to Kotaku’s October 6, 2026 report. Brady also criticized details they viewed as nonfunctional, saying “the engines wash across the deck, the planes take off backward, not into the wind.” Those are Brady’s assessments; the reporting does not independently evaluate the fictional craft’s engineering.
Did the artist give permission, and what did Artstorm say?
Brady said they had not authorized Modern Warships to use the concept. Artstorm acknowledged the clearance problem in a public response: “Fair call, and apologies from us. Your design was used as a reference without proper clearance. We’ll contact you directly to make this right.”

That acknowledgment and apology are not, by themselves, a legal finding of infringement or proof that the parties reached an agreement. The reports reviewed do not confirm whether Brady accepted compensation, whether the parties settled, or whether the vehicle was changed or removed. The figures describe reported acquisition estimates, not a confirmed current price, a guaranteed spend, or what every player paid. The reporting does not establish whether those costs or purchase options remain available.
