Season 1 is scheduled to arrive shortly afterward, connecting Modern Warfare 4 with Call of Duty: Warzone through shared seasonal content and progression. The Vault Edition is digital-only and includes one season of BlackCell, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips and a Battle Pass containing more than 100 unlockable rewards. The exact Season 1 start date, season length and tier-by-tier reward list have not been announced.
When does Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 start?
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, according to Activision’s May 2026 announcement. Season 1 follows “shortly after” launch and begins what Activision describes as a major year of content and seasonal experiences for Modern Warfare 4 and Call of Duty: Warzone.

That wording confirms the launch window but not a calendar day. Activision has not published a precise Season 1 start date in the official material available for this article. Treat retailer countdowns, social-media guesses and unofficial leaks as unconfirmed until Activision or the official Call of Duty channels publish a date.
The distinction matters because the Vault Edition’s seasonal benefits are not usable simply because the game has been installed. The Battle Pass, BlackCell content, COD Points and Tier Skips become accessible in Modern Warfare 4 when the Season 1 Battle Pass is available in-game.

- IN‑GAME CURRENCY — Call of Duty Points (CP) are the shared in‑game currency used to unlock content across supported Call of Duty titles, including Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare III, Modern Warfare II, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
- UNLOCK NEW CONTENT — Use CP to purchase Battle Passes, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Bundles, and other in‑game content to customize and enhance your Call of Duty experience.
- BATTLE PASS PROGRESSION — Battle Pass owners can spend CP to unlock tiers instantly and gain immediate access to seasonal rewards, operators, weapons, and cosmetics.
- CROSS‑TITLE USE — CP redeemed in an eligible Call of Duty game can be shared across supported titles where CP functionality is enabled, allowing flexible use across multiple games.
- BASE GAME REQUIRED — CP must be redeemed in a supported Call of Duty title and require the corresponding game, an internet connection, and a linked Activision account.
What changes when Season 1 connects Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone?
Beginning in Season 1, Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression as part of a connected experience between both titles. In practical terms, Season 1 is designed around a shared seasonal ecosystem rather than two entirely separate progression tracks.
Shared seasonal progression
The official description specifically identifies seasonal progression as connected. That means the seasonal experience tied to Modern Warfare 4 content also extends into Warzone from Season 1 onward. The announcement does not publish a complete rules document explaining every mode, item or reward interaction, so it would be inaccurate to promise that every unlock, weapon or statistic works identically in both games.
What the connection does not mean
Connected seasonal progression is separate from the player-level Prestige system. It also does not establish a Season 1 schedule, XP formula or complete reward map. Those details remain to be announced.

Activision’s editions documentation describes a Battle Pass with over 100 unlockable rewards. It does not state that the pass contains exactly 100 tiers, nor does it publish a numbered tier-by-tier table. Rewards and tiers are related but not interchangeable: a single tier can contain more than one item, and some Battle Pass systems place rewards in bonus sections or grouped pages.
For that reason, the most precise confirmed answer is: Modern Warfare 4’s Season 1 Battle Pass has more than 100 unlockable rewards, while the exact number of tiers has not been published.
Reward categories named by Activision
- Base Weapons
- Weapon Blueprints
- Operator Skins, including BlackCell variants
- COD Points
- XP Tokens
- Other cosmetic items
The official list establishes the types of content included, not the quantity of each type or the order in which rewards unlock.
What is included in the Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition?
The Vault Edition is a digital-only edition that includes one season of the Modern Warfare 4 BlackCell Battle Pass. Activision lists the following benefits:
Recommended Free Tools
| Vault Edition benefit | How it is delivered | Confirmed qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1,100 COD Points | Instant unlock | Listed by Activision for the Vault Edition |
| 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips | Instant unlock | Listed by Activision for the Vault Edition |
| Exclusive BlackCell content | Instant unlock | Includes a new Operator and a Weapon Blueprint |
| Modern Warfare 4 BlackCell Battle Pass | Season-gated access | Contains over 100 unlockable rewards |
Instant benefits versus seasonal benefits
The 1,100 COD Points, 20 Tier Skips and specified exclusive BlackCell content are described as instant unlocks. The Battle Pass itself is different: it becomes accessible when the Season 1 Battle Pass is available in-game. This timing prevents a preorder customer from using the seasonal pass before the season has actually opened.

What “one season” means
The Vault Edition’s BlackCell redemption covers one season of the Modern Warfare 4 Battle Pass. It is not a permanent Battle Pass entitlement for every future season. The documentation does not state that the included redemption can be moved between seasons, so plan on using it for the eligible season supplied with the edition.
When do Vault Edition benefits unlock?
Timing depends on when the edition is obtained.
| Purchase timing | When the included season becomes available |
|---|---|
| Preorder or prepurchase before launch | At the start of Season 1 |
| Purchase or upgrade after launch | At the start of the first new season after the transaction |
Call of Duty’s official Modern Warfare 4 site states that “BlackCell, Battle Pass, Call of Duty Points and Tier Skips will be accessible in Modern Warfare 4 upon availability of the Season 1 Battle Pass in-game.” The wording is important: it ties access to the in-game availability of the pass, not merely to the date of purchase or the October 23 launch.
How to prepare for Season 1 access
- Confirm the edition and platform. Check whether the purchase is the digital Vault Edition, a Digital Standard Edition, or a physical console edition. Keep the platform account used for the purchase consistent with the account used to play Modern Warfare 4.
- Install and update Modern Warfare 4. Seasonal entitlements require the game to be installed and updated. Do not expect a preorder entitlement to appear before the relevant in-game content is enabled.
- Wait for the Season 1 Battle Pass to become available. The official access condition is the in-game availability of the Season 1 Battle Pass. If the season has not opened, the pass and its Tier Skips may not yet be visible.
- Check the Battle Pass and BlackCell sections in-game. Once Season 1 is live, verify that the included BlackCell access, COD Points, Tier Skips and exclusive items are present on the purchasing account.
- Use the Tier Skips deliberately. The edition provides 20 skips, but the official material does not explain whether players can choose individual rewards, pages or only the next available tiers. Follow the options shown by the live Battle Pass interface.
- Contact platform or publisher support if an entitlement is missing. Keep the purchase receipt, platform account details and edition name available. Avoid buying a second pass before support confirms whether the first entitlement is delayed.
Regular Prestige is separate from Battle Pass progression
Modern Warfare 4 has a Regular Prestige path in addition to its seasonal Battle Pass. Activision describes Regular Prestige as a way to restart progression from Level 1 while retaining Create-a-Class content. Players earn Prestige rewards and progression milestones as they continue through that system.
| System | What progresses | What resets or remains |
|---|---|---|
| Battle Pass | Seasonal rewards such as weapons, blueprints, Operator Skins, COD Points, XP Tokens and cosmetics | Seasonal access is tied to the applicable Battle Pass; the included Vault entitlement covers one season |
| Regular Prestige | Prestige rewards and progression milestones | Player level restarts at Level 1; Create-a-Class content is not reset |
These systems can operate during the same season, but they answer different goals. The Battle Pass is a time-limited reward track, while Prestige is a repeatable player-level progression path. A Battle Pass Tier Skip does not equal a Prestige level, and reaching Prestige does not automatically unlock Battle Pass rewards.
Physical copies, digital editions and upgrades
Activision lists physical editions for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. That confirms that a physical Modern Warfare 4 purchase is planned for those consoles, although retailer availability, regional stock, edition names and pricing can differ.
The Vault Edition is digital-only. Activision also offers it as an upgrade for owners of the Digital Standard Edition. A physical disc should not be assumed to include the digital Vault benefits unless the specific retailer listing says so.
| Purchase route | Format or platform information confirmed by Activision | BlackCell and seasonal benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Vault Edition | Digital-only | Includes one season of BlackCell, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Tier Skips and exclusive content |
| Digital Standard Edition | Digital edition; eligible for a Vault upgrade | Vault benefits apply only after the upgrade is completed |
| Physical console edition | Physical editions listed for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 | Exact included bonuses depend on the edition and retailer listing; not stated generally |
Prices are not included in the official material summarized here. Check the store for your country, platform and edition before purchasing, especially if you are comparing a physical copy with a digital upgrade.

Several details that players commonly look for have not been published in the official announcements and editions documentation:
Rank #3

- BASE GAME REQUIRED — CP must be redeemed in a supported Call of Duty title and require the corresponding game, an internet connection, and a linked Activision account.
- The exact Season 1 launch date beyond “shortly after” the October 23 release.
- The duration of Season 1.
- A complete tier-by-tier reward table.
- The XP rate or formula used to advance the Battle Pass.
- The full Season 1 roadmap, including every mode, map, weapon and event.
- The exact way the 20 Tier Skips are applied in the live interface.
Do not convert “over 100 rewards” into a guaranteed number of tiers, and do not treat an estimated season length or XP requirement as official until Activision publishes it.
Which purchase or progression path fits each player?
You want the game and physical ownership
Look for the listed Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 physical editions. Confirm the specific edition’s bonus contents and regional stock before ordering. The existence of a physical edition does not by itself provide the Vault Edition’s BlackCell package.
You want BlackCell from the start of Season 1
The digital Vault Edition is the documented route that includes one season of BlackCell, 1,100 COD Points, 20 Tier Skips and exclusive BlackCell content. Preorders or prepurchases receive the included seasonal access when Season 1 begins.
You already own the Digital Standard Edition
Activision lists a Vault Edition upgrade for Digital Standard Edition owners. If you upgrade after launch, the included pass is granted at the start of the first new season after the transaction, so the purchase date affects when the seasonal entitlement appears.
You mainly play Warzone
Starting with Season 1, Warzone is part of the connected Modern Warfare 4 seasonal experience. The official announcement confirms integrated content and seasonal progression, but it does not provide a complete list of which individual rewards or systems carry over in every mode.
You care about long-term leveling rather than seasonal cosmetics
Regular Prestige is the relevant system. It lets you restart player progression from Level 1 while keeping Create-a-Class content and earning Prestige rewards and milestones. That path is distinct from buying or advancing the Battle Pass.
How to read future Season 1 announcements
When Activision publishes additional details, verify four separate items rather than treating every “Battle Pass” headline as the same benefit:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Start date: the calendar date and launch time for the in-game Battle Pass.
- Reward structure: the number of tiers, pages or bonus tracks, not just the total number of rewards.
- Progression rules: how XP is earned, whether modes contribute equally and how Tier Skips are applied.
- Entitlement timing: whether a preorder, post-launch purchase or upgrade activates immediately or at a later season boundary.
That separation helps prevent the most common misunderstanding: a game launch date, a season start date, a Battle Pass activation date and a Prestige reset are four different events.
