Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Spain-based Ingeteam announced a strategic memorandum of understanding on October 15, 2026, covering sales, development and technical cooperation for energy infrastructure serving data centers in the United States. The announcement is an MOU—not a disclosed construction contract, equipment order or deployment schedule.
What MHI and Ingeteam announced
The companies plan to bring Ingeteam’s power-conversion equipment and related software to the U.S. data-center market through MHI Group. They will also explore integrating selected Ingeteam technologies into MHI’s broader energy-infrastructure solutions and assess additional cooperation in medium-voltage distribution and energy-management systems for high-density computing.

MHI’s role is the integration and delivery of power, cooling, energy management and related infrastructure services. Ingeteam contributes generators, power electronics, control and automation systems, and digital technologies. Together, the companies are targeting data centers whose electrical demand is becoming harder to manage as artificial-intelligence workloads increase rack density and fluctuate more sharply.

Why AI data centers create a power-quality problem
AI servers can place large, rapidly changing loads on a facility’s electrical system. MHI’s announcement identifies harmonics and voltage imbalance as risks. If they are not managed, those conditions can interfere with stable operation and contribute to stress on electrical equipment over its service life.

How the route to market is expected to work
Distribution through MHI Group
The initial commercial path is for MHI Group to distribute Ingeteam power-conversion equipment and associated software in the United States. The announcement does not identify a particular reseller structure, customer, project size or product launch date.
Rank #2
- Rack mount 9-outlet power distribution unit (PDU) designed for standard 19-inch server racks, ideal for data centers, server rooms, and network closets
- Wide spacing for 2 outlets to accommodate larger plugs and adapters, improving cable management and reducing outlet overcrowding
- Individual on/off switches for each outlet, allowing convenient and independent control of connected devices
- 1u PDU includes 2 high-speed USB fast charging ports and 2 type C ports for simultaneous power supply and device charging
- Built-in overloading protection safeguards connected equipment from power surges and overloads, ensuring safe, reliable operation
Integration into complete infrastructure
MHI can evaluate selected Ingeteam equipment as part of packages that combine generation, conversion, batteries, controls, cooling and facility integration. That approach is intended to reduce the number of separate systems an owner must coordinate, although the MOU does not promise that every future project will use the full stack.
Medium-voltage and EMS cooperation
The parties will study further work in medium-voltage distribution and energy-management systems designed for high-density computing. These areas remain under evaluation; no final architecture, specification or deployment commitment was disclosed.

Why this fits MHI’s wider U.S. data-center strategy
In May 2025, MHI announced a Dallas, Texas, strategic and business base for its U.S. data-center business. It described a one-stop model combining power, cooling and digital solutions, and said the expansion of Concentric—acquired in 2023—would strengthen engineering, sales and service for data-center customers.
In July 2025, MHI also announced an agreement with U.S. data-center infrastructure-management provider Modius to integrate the OpenData platform with MHI power, cooling and control technologies. MHI said OpenData had more than 250 deployments worldwide at that time. That integration effort and the Ingeteam MOU point toward a common strategy: combine physical infrastructure with software and operational services rather than sell an isolated generator or converter.
