The game reported under the name Jantar Mantar Chalo turns the attempt to reach Delhi’s Jantar Mantar protest site into a two-sided 3D video-game mission. One player is an andolankari (protester) who recruits a procession, pushes through barricades and tries to hold a dharna. The other is a Delhi Police officer trying to stop that march with detentions, lathis, tear gas and police buses.
The supplied title calls it “Mission Dharna,” but reporting published by NDTV on October 16, 2026, identifies Jantar Mantar Chalo as the game’s name. No retrieved report confirms “Mission Dharna” as an official alternate title, so it is best treated as a framing label rather than a verified name.

What Jantar Mantar Chalo is
Jantar Mantar Chalo is a satirical, free web-based 3D game built around the practical difficulty of reaching a protest site in the Indian capital. Its premise draws on news reports about people being detained while trying to get to Jantar Mantar. Instead of presenting a conventional combat game, it makes protest logistics the mission: assemble people, navigate a city, survive police deployments and arrive at the designated area.
The game supports two opposing roles, so the same march can be experienced as a campaign to complete or an operation to disrupt.

The protester: build a kafila and reach the dharna
- Start as an andolankari, the protester character.
- Recruit people into a kafila, or procession, as you move through the city.
- Find routes around barricades, closed metro gates and other disruptions.
- Manage stamina and movement while dealing with police action and street hazards.
- Reach the designated protest ground and attempt to hold the dharna.
The police: prevent the march from arriving
As Delhi Police, the objective is reversed. You deploy force and detention mechanics to keep demonstrators away from the protest site. The reported tools include lathis, tear gas, arrests and transport in police buses. Burari and Kapashera grounds function as temporary detention centres, giving the police role a concrete destination rather than an abstract score.
How the two roles compare
| Element | Protester (andolankari) | Delhi Police |
|---|---|---|
| Primary objective | Recruit a kafila, reach Jantar Mantar and hold a dharna | Stop demonstrators from reaching the protest site |
| Movement problem | Navigate barricades, closed metro gates, potholes, garbage and traffic-like obstacles | Intercept and contain marchers across the route |
| Reported tools | Route-finding, stamina recovery, a gamchha for evading CCTV | Lathis, tear gas, detention and police buses |
| Failure state | Being stopped or detained before the dharna | Allowing the procession to reach the designated protest area |
Why the jokes are specifically Delhi jokes
The satire works because the game treats ordinary administrative friction as if it were a high-stakes obstacle course. NDTV’s description includes closed metro gates, internet-disruption pop-ups, lathi charges and detention at Narela or the Kapashera border. The route is also cluttered with potholes, overflowing garbage bins and cows in the road.

Small interactions push the joke further. A player can stop at tea stalls, eat golgappas to restore stamina and use a gamchha to evade CCTV. These are not generic power-ups: they are recognizable objects and routines from Delhi life, inserted into a protest mission where every delay has exaggerated consequences. The result is deliberately uneven realism—current political tension alongside absurd street-level obstacles.

Real pressure, exaggerated systems
The game’s dark humour comes from placing real-world protest restrictions next to comic mechanics. Detention grounds, police buses and tear gas evoke coercive state logistics; a snack stall, a piece of cloth or a cow blocking the road turns that logistics chain into farce. Reuters described the tone as “dark humour” and connected the premise to reports of people being detained while trying to reach Jantar Mantar.

Who made the game
Suraj Kushwah, a 27-year-old IT professional from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, developed the game. NDTV reports that he works as a DevOps engineer at oneplay.in, runs a Linux-focused YouTube channel with about 30,000 subscribers, and studied game design in college. He cited Slither.io as an inspiration.
Kushwah said AI tools, including Claude, helped with parts of the coding, while other tools assisted with artwork. He described the central concept and gameplay design as his own. His explanation matters because the game is a small creator project using contemporary production tools rather than a large studio release.

Release date and early audience
Reuters reported that Jantar Mantar Chalo was released on October 14, 2026. Kushwah told Reuters that at least 2,000 people were playing at any point in time. That figure is a creator-reported activity estimate, not an independently audited player count, and it should not be read as a cumulative download total.

Kushwah told NDTV that he was inspired by news coverage of calls for marches toward Jantar Mantar and wanted players to navigate police deployments on the way to the protest site. He said the situation in the capital was causing discomfort for many people. To Reuters, he summarized the news atmosphere more bluntly: “Whatever news was coming was kind of like a circus.”

Is Mission Dharna the same game?
Based on the available reporting, “Mission Dharna” and Jantar Mantar Chalo refer to the same game concept in this article, but only Jantar Mantar Chalo is confirmed as the reported title. There is no retrieved confirmation that “Mission Dharna” is an official subtitle, renamed edition or separate release. Anyone searching for the game should use “Jantar Mantar Chalo” first.
Quick Recap
What the game leaves players with
- It is a two-sided protest simulation, not a single-character march game.
- The protester campaign is about recruitment, route choice, stamina and reaching the dharna.
- The police campaign is about interception, force, detention and transport.
- Delhi-specific details—metro closures, CCTV, food stalls, garbage, potholes and cows—supply the comedy.
- Its audience number and reception should be treated cautiously because the reported 2,000-player figure came from the creator.
