The essential Bedrock admin commands fall into six jobs: discover syntax, control access, moderate players, change player state, manage the world, and operate the dedicated server. Keep the current command reference available because permissions, cheat requirements, and argument syntax can change between Bedrock releases. In chat, commands begin with /; a Bedrock Dedicated Server also accepts administrative commands at its server console.

Before using a command that can remove players, erase items, or edit a large region, test it on a copy or staging world. A selector that targets every player or entity can turn a small mistake into a server-wide incident.

Prepare the world and your permissions
Microsoft’s command introduction states that cheats must be enabled before commands are used, and enabling cheats disables achievements for that world. In a world where commands are available, the operator commands permission must also be enabled for chat commands and command blocks.
- Single-player or hosted world: enable cheats in the world settings, then grant the operator-command permission to the users who need it.
- Bedrock Dedicated Server (BDS): use the server console and operator or owner controls described by the server configuration. Do not assume that being an operator grants every owner-level command.
- Command blocks: they require the operator commands permission, and their output can be controlled with the
commandblockoutputgamerule.
Permission level and cheat status are part of a command’s syntax. The current command index identifies /op and /deop as Admin-level, /allowlist, /permission, and /stop as Owner-level, and many gameplay commands as Game Directors. Check the installed release with /help rather than relying on a guide written for another version.
#1 Best Overall
Discover syntax before you run a command
/help and /help <command>
Run /help in chat to list every command available to your current account. Run /help teleport, for example, to display that command’s usage and argument order. Microsoft documents /help as permission level Any and says it does not require cheats, making it the safest first diagnostic when a command fails.
Use the exact spelling shown by the help page. Placeholders such as <player>, <target>, and x y z describe values you supply; do not type the angle brackets themselves.

/listshows players currently connected. It is available at permission level Any and does not require cheats./packstackprints the client or server behavior/resource-pack stack to chat. It is also an Any-permission, no-cheats command and is useful when behavior differs between installations.
Control who can administer and join
Grant or revoke operator access
Use /op <player> to grant operator status and /deop <player> to remove it. Both are Admin-level commands and the command index lists them as not requiring cheats. Supply the player’s exact in-game name. Grant the minimum access necessary, then verify the result with a harmless command such as /help.
Maintain the allowlist
On a Bedrock Dedicated Server, /allowlist add <GamerTag> adds a player to the join list. The dedicated-server guide specifically warns that GamerTags must match exactly, including capitalization. Use the corresponding remove, list, on, or off action shown by /help allowlist; syntax and available subcommands should be checked on the installed release.
An allowlist controls admission, while /op controls administrative privilege. They are independent: a player can be allowed to join without being an operator, and an operator can still be denied entry if the allowlist is enabled and their GamerTag is absent.
Dedicated-server permission management
/permission list, /permission set, and /permission reload manage dedicated-server permissions. The command index classifies /permission as Owner-level and requiring cheats. Use /help permission to see the accepted subject and level values before changing a live server’s access policy.

Moderate players and communicate clearly
Remove a player without changing the world
/kick <player> removes a connected player. It is listed as a Game Directors command and does not require cheats. Add a reason only if the current help syntax permits it. Kicking is reversible—the player can reconnect if they remain allowed—but it does not ban them or undo anything they did before removal.
Send messages and titles
/say <message>broadcasts plain server text./tell <player> <message>sends a private message./tellraw <target> <json>sends formatted JSON text; validate the JSON carefully./titleand/titlerawdisplay title or subtitle overlays. Their exact argument forms and permission/cheat requirements should be confirmed with/help titleand/help titleraw.
For automated announcements, prefer a narrow target such as a named player or a well-defined selector instead of @a unless every connected player should see the message.
Change player modes, locations, and effects
Switch a player’s game mode
/gamemode <mode> [target] changes the mode of the command executor or an optional target. The command index supplies the current permission and cheat requirements; check /help gamemode for accepted mode names and whether the target argument is optional in your release. Changing a mode affects player state, not the terrain, so it is usually reversible by running the command again.
Teleport safely with explicit targets
/teleport, also available as /tp, can move a player to coordinates or to another entity. Its syntax supports optional rotation, a facing target or direction, and a check-for-blocks option. Use /help teleport to select the exact form your version accepts.

- Choose the source and destination explicitly. A command such as
/tp <target> x y zis safer than relying on the command executor when teleporting someone else. - Check the coordinates in a safe, loaded area. Remember that
x y zare three separate numbers, not one combined value. - Use the check-for-blocks argument when available to prevent placement inside obstructed terrain.
- For orientation-sensitive builds, add the documented rotation or facing arguments rather than correcting the player afterward.
Teleportation changes player position immediately and may strand a player in danger. Keep a known return coordinate for hubs, prisons, or event arenas.
Apply or remove status effects
/effect can add an effect, remove one effect, or clear effects from a target. Because duration, amplifier, and effect-name syntax are version-sensitive, inspect /help effect before issuing a bulk command. Target one test player first; an accidental broad selector can affect everyone online.
Manage inventories and spawn points
/giveadds an item to a target’s inventory./clearremoves items and can be narrowed by item, data, or amount according to the current syntax. Treat it as destructive and test it on a disposable inventory./replaceitemplaces an item in a specified inventory slot or container./spawnpointsets a player’s personal spawn point, while/clearspawnpointremoves it.
Inventory edits are not automatically reversible. Record what was removed or replaced before running a moderation command, especially on a survival server with no rollback tool.
Control time, weather, difficulty, and rules
Query or set gamerules
/gamerule queries a rule when given its name and sets it when given a value. The reference describes Boolean and integer rules and specifically includes commandblockoutput and dodaylightcycle. It states that /gamerule does not require cheats.
Examples are:
/gamerule commandblockoutput falsereduces command-block feedback./gamerule dodaylightcycle falsestops the normal day/night clock.
Query the current value before changing it, and record the original value so another admin can restore the intended configuration.
Set difficulty and time
/difficulty sets Peaceful, Easy, Normal, or Hard. Confirm the accepted spelling with /help difficulty if a value is rejected.
/time set day, /time set noon, /time set night, /time set midnight, /time set sunrise, and /time set sunset use the documented TimeSpec values. These commands alter world time, so they affect every player in that dimension.
Weather, mob events, and ticking areas
/weathersets weather according to its current syntax;/toggledownfalltoggles precipitation./mobeventcontrols whether supported mob events run./tickingareaadds, removes, or lists areas that remain active for ticking. Keep areas small and documented because persistent ticking can create unexpected activity away from players.
Build, automate, and create command systems
Use /execute for conditional logic
/execute runs a nested command with a changed executor or origin and can apply conditions. Microsoft’s examples use forms such as as, positioned as, and if block. Build complex chains one clause at a time: first verify the executor, then the position, then the condition, and finally the command that changes the world.
Store repeatable logic in functions
/function runs commands stored in a behavior-pack function file. Functions make recurring tasks auditable and easier to disable than a long line of command-block chains. Test a function with one target before scheduling it for every player.
Track state with scoreboards
/scoreboard creates objectives and manipulates scores for stateful systems such as quests, timers, currencies, and team counters. Keep objective names short and document what each score represents; deleting or reusing an objective can invalidate command logic that depends on it.
Edit terrain and structures cautiously
/setblockchanges one block./fillchanges a cuboid region./clonecopies a region to another location./structuresaves or loads structures.
Use explicit corner coordinates, count the expected volume, and test on a backup. A mistaken /fill or /clone can overwrite a build across a large region, and recovery may require restoring the world rather than issuing another command.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEntities, tags, and events
/summon creates an entity, /tag attaches or removes labels used by selectors, and /event triggers supported entity events. Tags are useful for narrowing later commands, for example by selecting only entities assigned to an event. Verify event names with the relevant help page or behavior-pack documentation.
Operate and stop a Bedrock Dedicated Server
Check save behavior
/save configures or checks dedicated-server save behavior. Its exact subcommands are release-sensitive, so run /help save on the server before changing it. Schedule maintenance around a confirmed save state rather than assuming a command completed silently.
Stop the server cleanly
At the dedicated-server console, run stop to shut down the server. In chat, the equivalent command is /stop. The current command index classifies /stop as Owner-level and requiring cheats. Warn players first with /say, allow ongoing activity to finish, then confirm that the process has exited before restarting or replacing files.
Understand selectors, scope, and reversibility
Targets can be a named player, an entity, or a selector. Common selectors include @s for the executor, @p for the nearest player, @a for all players, and @e for entities; selector arguments and filters are version-sensitive, so validate them with the command’s help page.

Quick Recap
Practical admin workflows
Onboard a new moderator
- Confirm the exact GamerTag.
- Add the player with
/allowlist add <GamerTag>if the allowlist is enabled. - Grant only the necessary access with
/op <player>or the dedicated-server permission system. - Ask the moderator to run
/helpand verify that the expected command pages appear.
Move a lost player safely
- Use
/listto confirm the player is online. - Choose a known safe coordinate.
- Run
/tp <player> x y z, adding the documented check-for-blocks option when available. - Tell the player the destination with
/telland record the original location if a return is needed.
Prepare planned maintenance
- Announce the window with
/say. - Check or configure saving with the syntax shown by
/help save. - Wait for players to stop building or trading.
- Run
stopfrom the BDS console and verify the process has shut down cleanly.
Troubleshoot a command that fails
- Unknown command: run
/help; the command may be unavailable in that edition or disabled by the server version. - Syntax error: run
/help <command>and compare argument order, capitalization, and required quotes or JSON. - Insufficient permission: confirm the operator commands permission, your Admin/Game Directors/Owner level, and whether the command must be run from the BDS console.
- Cheats warning: enable cheats only when the world’s achievement trade-off is acceptable; otherwise use commands documented as not requiring cheats, such as
/help,/list,/packstack,/op,/deop, and/gamerulewhere the reference specifies no cheats. - Wrong player or entity affected: replace selectors with an exact name, inspect tags, and test against one target.
- Unexpected world damage: stop issuing further edits, preserve the current world copy, and restore a known-good backup rather than attempting an unplanned chain of corrective commands.
