Mina the Hollower and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove share Yacht Club Games’ pixel-art sensibility, but they are not the same kind of action game. Shovel Knight is built around precise running, jumping and shovel-based combat across a complete series collection. Mina is a single-player action-adventure organized around burrowing, an interconnected world, weapon choices, Sidearms, Trinkets and character leveling.
That makes the practical choice straightforward: choose Treasure Trove if you want a focused platform-action structure and a large, finished Shovel Knight package; choose Mina if you want exploration, route-finding and a build system with several weapons and accessories. Mina is a new game and new intellectual property, not a Shovel Knight sequel, even though its developer describes it as a spiritual follow-up.

| Core movement | Burrowing is a central traversal and combat action in an interconnected world. | Running and jumping define movement through action-platforming stages. |
| Primary combat identity | A whip plus weapons with different movesets, Sidearms and equippable Trinkets. | The Shovel Blade is Shovel Knight’s defining weapon. |
| Progression | Level-ups and build decisions involving stats, weapons, Sidearms and Trinkets. | A complete collection of Shovel Knight campaigns rather than one new build-focused adventure. |
| World structure | Dozens of interconnected regions and a six-generator main quest. | A collection of campaigns built around the Shovel Knight series’ stage-based action format. |
| Published scope figures | More than 25 bosses and mini-bosses, 60 Trinkets, and more total screens than all of Treasure Trove, according to Yacht Club Games. | Treasure Trove is the complete Shovel Knight edition; no equivalent numeric screen comparison is stated for the collection in the supplied official material. |
| Release status | Released May 29, 2026. Platform lists vary by announcement and storefront. | Established complete edition with releases on modern and previous-generation platforms listed by Yacht Club Games. |
The screen-count statement is a publisher comparison of level scope, not a promise of longer playtime, higher quality or greater difficulty. There is also no reliable evidence here for a head-to-head difficulty ranking: neither game should be called definitively easier or harder without independent testing.

Mina the Hollower is a single-player action-adventure from Yacht Club Games. You play Mina, a Hollower sent to rescue a cursed island. Its defining verb is burrowing: Mina can move beneath hazards and monsters, making underground travel part of both navigation and combat rather than a decorative animation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The official description also emphasizes a whip, an arsenal of weapons, Sidearms and equippable Trinkets. The press kit describes an 8-bit, Game Boy Color-inspired look presented with modern animation and a widescreen display. That combination matters because Mina is designed to evoke a handheld-era visual language while supporting a larger, more interconnected adventure structure than a simple sequence of linear stages.
Burrowing changes how you read a room
In a run-and-jump platformer, a gap, ledge or enemy formation is usually read from the surface. Mina’s design adds another layer: the player must consider when to go below the danger, when to return to the surface and how the underground route connects to the larger area. The available official material does not specify every control interaction or encounter rule, so it is safer to treat burrowing as the central traversal and combat concept rather than infer a particular timing system.
A new game, not a numbered Shovel Knight entry
Yacht Club Games presents Mina as a new game and a new intellectual property. Celia Schilling, the studio’s Marketing Director, wrote: “We put our hearts and our future into this game and we believe it is a worthy follow up to our beloved blue burrower, Shovel Knight.” The statement explains the studio’s intent and affection for the earlier game, but it does not make Mina part of the Shovel Knight series or establish a sequel relationship.

What Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is described by Yacht Club Games as the complete Shovel Knight edition. It is best understood as a collection package, not as one standalone campaign that happens to have a large amount of content. Its central premise is to run, jump and battle as Shovel Knight, wielder of the Shovel Blade, while taking on the Order of No Quarter and the Enchantress.
That framing gives Treasure Trove a different rhythm from Mina. The Shovel Blade is the base character’s defining tool, and the official description foregrounds movement through running and jumping. The collection format also means that “how much game” you receive is tied to the included Shovel Knight campaigns rather than to one interconnected island with a single leveling arc.

Why the collection label matters
When comparing value or scope, do not describe Treasure Trove as one campaign equivalent to Mina’s main quest. Treasure Trove is the complete edition of the Shovel Knight series as presented by its developer. Mina is a new standalone adventure with its own world, progression and equipment systems. A comparison should therefore ask whether you prefer one coherent exploration game or a complete package of Shovel Knight campaigns, not which title has the larger number of stages in an identical format.
Movement and level design
Mina: burrow through an interconnected world
Mina’s movement is built around the ability to burrow beneath hazards and monsters. Yacht Club Games describes the game world as containing dozens of interconnected regions or areas. That structure suggests navigation as a continuing concern: areas relate to one another, and progress is not presented solely as a one-way chain of isolated stages.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The six-generator main quest gives that world a clear backbone. The generators are part of the stated central objective, while the surrounding regions, bosses, mini-bosses and equipment create reasons to explore beyond the shortest route. The official figures include more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses and dozens of distinct areas. Those are publisher-reported counts, so they describe planned or advertised scope rather than a guaranteed amount of time for every player.
Shovel Knight: run, jump and attack
Yacht Club Games’ description of Shovel Knight emphasizes running and jumping. That makes spatial precision the most visible part of its identity: your route is read from platforms, gaps, hazards and enemies encountered along the stage path. The Shovel Blade connects movement and combat, giving the character a single, immediately recognizable core tool.
This distinction is useful even if you have played one game but not the other. Mina asks you to think about vertical or underground travel within a connected region; Shovel Knight asks you to execute a sequence of jumps, attacks and stage-specific challenges. Neither description makes one approach universally superior. They reward different kinds of attention.

Combat, weapons and equipment
Mina’s layered arsenal
Mina starts from a whip and expands into an arsenal of weapons with different movesets. An overview by Celia Schilling identifies early choices such as the Nightstar, BlastStrike Maul and Whisper & Vesper daggers. These examples indicate meaningful variation in how Mina can attack, rather than simple cosmetic weapon swaps.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Sidearms add another equipment category, while Trinkets provide equippable modifiers. Yacht Club Games reports 60 Trinkets. The practical effect is a build system in which a player can combine a preferred weapon, Sidearms and Trinkets instead of relying on one fixed attack pattern for the entire adventure.
Shovel Knight’s focused weapon identity
Shovel Knight’s base character wields the Shovel Blade. Treasure Trove’s official description centers that weapon within the run-and-jump action format. The supplied official material does not establish a Mina-style list of interchangeable main weapons, Sidearms or a 60-item accessory system for Treasure Trove, so the comparison should not imply that both games use the same equipment model.
The contrast is therefore one of emphasis. Mina offers more documented room for changing the character’s combat setup. Shovel Knight gives you a strong, consistent central weapon whose relationship with movement defines the character. Players who enjoy experimenting with attack patterns and accessory combinations have a clearer match in Mina; players who prefer mastering one iconic tool have a clearer match in Shovel Knight.
Progression and build decisions
Mina includes level-ups and build choices involving stats, weapons, Sidearms and Trinkets. Schilling describes two broad approaches: a balanced build, or a higher-risk, higher-reward style. The important point is not that the game forces one “correct” build, but that your decisions can shape how Mina handles combat and exploration.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
That progression makes Mina feel like an adventure in which preparation is part of the challenge. A player can evaluate whether a new weapon’s moveset complements a chosen Sidearm, whether a Trinket supports a defensive or aggressive plan, and whether stat investment reinforces a balanced setup or a riskier specialization. The official descriptions do not provide a complete stat table or numerical upgrade costs, so exact optimization advice would go beyond the established information.
Treasure Trove should not be presented as having the same leveling framework. Its identity comes from the complete collection of Shovel Knight campaigns and the run-and-jump action loop. If your main motivation is building a customized Mina, Treasure Trove is not a like-for-like substitute; if your motivation is learning a precise platform-action moveset across a complete series package, Mina’s build system is not a replacement for that experience.
World structure, bosses and overall scope
Yacht Club Games describes Mina’s setting as an interconnected world with dozens of distinct areas. The studio’s February 12, 2026 launch announcement also said Mina contains more total screens than the entirety of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Because that is a publisher-reported screen comparison, it should be read as a statement about the number of discrete spaces, not as a measurement of campaign length, replay value or quality.
The same announcement reports more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses, while other official material reports 60 Trinkets and a six-generator main quest. Together, those figures describe a game with multiple layers of scope: a central objective, a large connected map, numerous major encounters and a broad accessory pool.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTreasure Trove’s scope is expressed differently. Yacht Club Games calls it the complete Shovel Knight edition, so its defining promise is breadth across the series’ campaigns. The available official descriptions do not supply a matching numeric count of screens, bosses or total playtime for the collection in a way that can be compared directly with Mina’s figures. Treat the two scope models as different products: Mina concentrates its content in one new world, while Treasure Trove packages the completed Shovel Knight series experience.

Release date and platform context
Mina released on May 29, 2026, according to Yacht Club Games’ current game page and Nintendo’s US listing. An earlier Yacht Club Games announcement in February 2026 described a spring launch window; the May 29 date is the later, more specific release information.
| Game and source context | Platforms or editions stated | How to interpret the listing |
|---|---|---|
| Mina, current Yacht Club Games page | Steam, Humble, GOG, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One | A current product-page list; it should not be merged automatically with every earlier launch announcement. |
| Mina, February 2026 launch announcement | Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Steam | An announcement-era launch list, tied to that date and wording. |
| Mina, Nintendo US listing | Digital editions for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 | Nintendo’s storefront gives May 29, 2026 for those digital versions. |
| Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Yacht Club Games page | Steam, Humble, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One | The developer’s listed platforms for the complete edition. |
The differences between Mina’s lists mean you should check the storefront for the specific system you own. Do not claim that every platform in the two lists launched on the same day or that every version has identical technical features; the supplied official information does not establish that.
Physical editions and what buyers can verify
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
Yacht Club Games announced a physical Treasure Trove edition in 2018 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, naming Amazon among preorder retailers. The planned PlayStation 4 physical release was later canceled in 2021. That history supports describing a Nintendo Switch physical edition as a possible product, but it does not verify current stock, seller reliability or pricing. Availability can change, so a listing found today should be checked for the correct edition and platform.

Which game should you choose?
Choose Mina if you want exploration and customization
- You want burrowing to be central to movement and combat.
- You prefer an interconnected world with dozens of areas rather than a purely stage-by-stage structure.
- You enjoy changing weapons and combining Sidearms with Trinkets.
- You want level-ups and build decisions, including the choice between balanced and higher-risk approaches.
- You are interested in a new Yacht Club Games property rather than another entry in the Shovel Knight series.
Choose Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove if you want focused platform action
- You want running and jumping to define the moment-to-moment game feel.
- You like the clarity of a central weapon, the Shovel Blade.
- You want the complete Shovel Knight edition rather than a new single-world adventure.
- You prefer a series package whose identity is built around the Order of No Quarter, the Enchantress and Shovel Knight’s established campaign format.
- You are specifically looking for a Nintendo Switch physical-product option, while understanding that current stock was not verified.
If you are choosing based on “more game”
There is no single fair measurement. Mina has publisher-reported figures for more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses, 60 Trinkets, dozens of areas and more screens than all of Treasure Trove. Treasure Trove is itself a complete collection. Those facts answer different questions: Mina advertises the size and density of one interconnected adventure, while Treasure Trove advertises the completeness of a series package. A screen count cannot tell you which game will hold your attention longer.
What this comparison can and cannot establish
The documented mechanics support a clear design comparison, but they do not support claims about which game is objectively harder, has better controls, runs at a higher frame rate, offers more hours of play or has a larger audience. No hands-on head-to-head test, independent review score, sales figure or current physical-stock check is established here.
The safest conclusion is therefore preference-based rather than numerical. Mina is the more systems-driven exploration adventure on paper, with burrowing, interconnected regions, multiple weapon types, Sidearms, Trinkets and leveling. Treasure Trove is the more focused platform-action collection, centered on running, jumping and the Shovel Blade across the complete Shovel Knight package.
Bottom line
Mina the Hollower is not “Shovel Knight 2.” It carries the same studio’s retro craftsmanship into a different structure: burrow through a connected world, build Mina with weapons and Trinkets, and pursue a six-generator quest across dozens of areas. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove remains the better fit for players who want the established run-and-jump formula and a complete series edition. Your choice should follow the movement and progression system you want to play, not the fact that both games come from Yacht Club Games.
