Group-IB reports that the fake checkouts can capture payment details as they are typed and relay a one-time verification code into a live payment challenge. If you entered card or account information, contact the relevant institution through a known official channel promptly.
Is the Milk Dragon scam real?
Yes. Group-IB reported on October 1, 2026, that Milk Dragon (NaiLong) is an adversary-in-the-middle phishing kit active since at least October 2025. Its investigation identified 258 phishing pages and victims in 66 countries. Those are the counts observed in that investigation, not a complete census of every page or victim. Group-IB’s investigation describes the operation and its reported methods.

Group-IB observed 21 impersonated consumer brands across categories including cosmetics and fashion, food and beverage, home and baby products, and toys. LEGO, Calvin Klein, and Aeon Malaysia were among the examples named. It also observed 36 financial-institution impersonation templates. These figures describe templates and brands impersonated; they do not mean those retailers or financial institutions were hacked. Group-IB says the complete brand list and indicators of compromise are restricted to its intelligence customers.
How does the Milk Dragon scam steal payment data?
1. A social post points to a fake shop
The operation uses posts or ads on social-media marketplaces, including Facebook and TikTok, to promote familiar goods at unusually steep discounts. A click leads to a counterfeit retailer storefront. Group-IB says some profiles appeared potentially fake or contained AI-generated content, but it did not establish who operated those profiles.

- FIDO2 & Passkey Ready: Business-ready and FIDO2 L1 certified. This key is supported by major management suites and is ideal for both individual and enterprise deployment. Works seamlessly with Gmail, Facebook, GitHub, Dropbox, Coinbase, and more.
- Universal Connectivity (USB-A ): Features a built-in USB-A connector—simply unfold the key and plug it into your compatible PC or laptop for seamless authentication on the go.
- Dedicated Manager App: Use the Thetis Manager App for the initial hardware PIN setup. Setting the PIN on the device first ensures a smooth registration process. Once the PIN is configured, you can begin registering the key across your favorite FIDO2-compatible online services.
- Ultra-Durable & Portable: Featuring a rotating metal cover, this key is water, crush, and tamper-resistant. It fits easily on a keychain and requires no batteries or network connectivity.
- Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID, and NFC is NOT supported.
2. The checkout streams what the shopper types
In the stores Group-IB investigated, the criminals used WordPress and the legitimate WooCommerce plugin alongside a custom plugin called BytePress. Group-IB says BytePress maintains a WebSocket connection to the operator panel and streams checkout input character by character, before the shopper submits the form. The operator can also direct what pages or notifications the shopper sees. A polished store or checkout therefore does not prove the seller is genuine.
3. A fake verification prompt can feed a live transaction
After payment details are entered, the site may show a loading screen and then a spoofed verification prompt resembling a genuine 3-D Secure challenge. If a shopper enters the one-time code, an operator can relay it to attempt to authorize a fraudulent transaction or take over an account. Group-IB says a fake order confirmation may follow, making the purchase appear complete and delaying the shopper’s response.

How to check a social-media deal before paying
- Open the retailer’s official website or app yourself rather than following the post’s link.
- Check the destination domain carefully before entering payment details. A familiar logo, platform placement, or professional-looking page is not proof of authenticity.
- Pause if the discount seems implausibly large. Look for the offer on the retailer’s independently verified site or app.
- Do not treat a one-time verification prompt as proof that a checkout is safe; in the reported scheme, a fake page can collect the code during a live challenge.
Group-IB also suggests checking unfamiliar links with tools such as urlscan.io, VirusTotal, or ScamAdviser. These checks are optional and do not replace independently confirming the seller and its domain.

What to do if you entered card details or a verification code
- Contact your card issuer or financial institution promptly. Use the number printed on your card, its official app, or another contact route you already know is genuine—not contact details supplied by the suspicious page or message. Tell the institution what information you entered and follow its instructions.
- Review recent transactions. Ask the institution what to do about freezing or replacing the card, and monitor the account for activity you do not recognize.
- Use official identity-theft guidance if personal or account details were exposed. The FTC directs people who think a scammer has their credit-card or bank-account information to IdentityTheft.gov for tailored next steps.
- Report the phishing attempt where applicable. The FTC’s reporting route accepts reports of scams. Reach it through its genuine website rather than a link in the suspicious post.
The FTC’s guidance on what to do if you were scammed also advises using a known genuine contact channel when reaching an affected institution.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the report does—and does not—establish
Group-IB’s findings document a specific operation and the pages, brands, and templates it observed. They do not establish the campaign’s total financial losses, a success rate, a complete list of affected brands or institutions, or whether any particular shopper or merchant was affected. An impersonation template is evidence of attempted impersonation, not evidence that the institution behind it was compromised. A social-media offer alone also cannot confirm that a particular page belongs to Milk Dragon.
