This review is built on Miele’s published product material for the Irish market and on its technical sheet. It does not report hands-on testing, and it separates what Miele states from what has been independently verified, which at the time of writing is very little.
Confirm you have the right model number
Miele sells two closely named variants. The model covered here is the KM 8885-2 FL, with the “-2” suffix. Miele’s Swedish listing for the exact -2 product carries the same name and a regional technical specification. The German listing for the KM 8885 FL without the suffix is a different product number, and its specifications should not be transferred to the -2 model. Before comparing prices or dimensions, check that the model number on the box, the product page and the technical sheet all match.

Cooking area and controls
Miele describes a single full-surface cooking area rather than fixed rings. The Irish product page says it can accommodate up to six items of cookware at once. Positioning is therefore flexible, but the hob does not show zone outlines, so the number of pans that can comfortably share the surface depends on their size and on how you place them.
According to the Irish product page, the controls are six MultiSlide sliders, and the hob also has a light line and a booster level. Miele does not publish a boost time, a maximum power per position or a heat-up figure on the pages reviewed, so claims about how quickly the booster heats a pan cannot be confirmed.

DiamondFinish: what Miele claims
Miele calls DiamondFinish a hard-wearing surface that is particularly resistant to scratching. That is a manufacturer statement. No independent abrasion or scratch test of this exact model was identified, so treat the scratch resistance as Miele’s positioning. Normal care guidance for induction glass still applies, and Miele’s own documentation should be followed for cleaning products and maintenance.
M Sense: a hob and cookware pairing
M Sense is a pairing between the hob and M Sense-enabled cookware. Miele’s Irish page labels the KM 8885-2 FL as M Sense ready and lists a voucher for a starter set. The page does not state the pieces included in that set, the voucher’s expiry date or whether the offer applies in every market. Standard induction pans are a separate question: the sources reviewed do not state whether features tied to M Sense cookware depend on it, so buyers who already own induction cookware should confirm with Miele which functions need the matching pans.
Dimensions, weight and electrical load
The Irish technical sheet lists these figures for the exact model:

- Dimensions: 66 × 800 × 520 mm
- Weight: 24 kg
- Total rated load: 9.2 kW
- Voltage and frequency: 230 V, 50–60 Hz
- Supply lead: 1.6 m
These are Irish-market values from Miele’s regional sheet, which is available as a product sheet PDF. Confirm them against the sheet for your own country before ordering.
Installation: surface-mounted or flush-fit
Miele lists two installation options. The table below gives the cutout dimensions published in the Irish sheet.
| Installation type | Cutout dimensions (mm) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Surface-mounted | 780 × 500 | Miele Irish product sheet |
| Flush-fit | 780/804 × 500/524 | Miele Irish product sheet |
The flush-fit row gives two pairs of values. Read the installation drawing supplied with your model to determine which pair applies to your worktop before you cut it. Miele’s Irish page says installation and maintenance should be carried out by authorised experts, and its installation drawings and operating instructions are downloadable from the product page.
Checks before you buy
- Match the model number exactly. Confirm that you are buying the KM 8885-2 FL, not the variant without the suffix.
- Measure your worktop cutout against the installation drawing for the chosen mounting type, not against the summary figures alone.
- Confirm that your electrical supply meets the 9.2 kW total rated load and 230 V, 50–60 Hz requirement for your country, and that a qualified installer can make the connection.
- Check whether the 1.6 m supply lead reaches your connection point without an extension, which Miele does not recommend in the material reviewed.
- Check the current price, warranty terms and any M Sense voucher directly with a retailer or Miele in your market. Prices and offers vary by country and change over time.
- Confirm which cookware you need for the functions you plan to use.
What is not established
- Real-world boiling and frying speed, and temperature stability across the cooking area.
- Operating noise from the fan and the induction coils during use.
- Ease of cleaning and how the glass shows fingerprints, spills and residue in everyday use.
- Scratch resistance under independent testing, beyond Miele’s DiamondFinish claim.
- Long-term reliability and the performance of the controls over years of use.
- The current price, warranty and M Sense voucher terms outside Ireland. The Irish page displayed a price of €4,199.99 at the time of writing; that figure is specific to that listing and should not be applied to other markets.
At the time of writing, no independent hands-on review of this exact model had been identified. Readers looking for verified real-world results should look for a tested review of the -2 model before making decisions based on performance.

If you are weighing this hob against another full-surface or multi-zone induction hob, compare these areas in turn, using each manufacturer’s own specification sheet for the same country:
- Cooking-area flexibility: the stated usable area and the number of cookware items each hob supports at once.
- Cookware-linked functions: whether any advanced feature depends on specific cookware, and whether your existing pans still work for everyday cooking.
- Controls: the number and layout of controls, and how easily you can manage several pans at once.
- Surface claims: the coating or glass claims each manufacturer makes, kept separate from any independent durability data.
- Installation: width, depth, cutout dimensions, mounting type, electrical load and the installer requirements in your area.
- Price, warranty and included items: compare only current offers from the same country.
Bottom line
The KM 8885-2 FL Diamond&MSense is a clearly specified full-surface induction hob with a set of features that Miele presents as its advantages. The published dimensions, cutouts and electrical figures are useful for planning an installation, and the -2 model number should be checked carefully. The performance, durability and noise questions that matter most for daily use remain open until a hands-on test of the exact model is available.
Readers who decide on this hob should treat Miele’s descriptions as the manufacturer’s position, verify the installation details with a qualified installer, and check the current M Sense offer with a retailer in their own market.
