The Miele DA 399-7 Classic is a stainless-steel, 36-inch-class wall hood with three grease filters and a manufacturer-rated 489 CFM booster setting on the current U.S. version. It may suit a kitchen that can accommodate its canopy, clearances and 6-inch duct connection; recirculating use requires separately listed parts. This is a specification-based review, not an independent performance or reliability test.
What the DA 399-7 Classic is
Miele’s U.S. product page identifies the stainless-steel DA 399-7 Classic as a wall ventilation hood, material number 10558800 (EAN 4002515802199). Its trapezoidal canopy is 35 3/8 inches wide, 20 1/2 inches deep and 4 3/4 inches high. Those dimensions—not the rounded “36-inch” class label—are the practical starting point for checking whether it fits above your cooking area. How to interpret the airflow rating
Miele lists 489 CFM (830 m³/h) at booster level for the current U.S. version, material number 10558800. This is a manufacturer specification, not an independently measured airflow or a guarantee of capture performance in a particular kitchen. Actual results depend on the installation and duct route, among other factors; the available evidence does not establish a real-world capture comparison.

A legacy U.S. specification sheet from around 2017 lists 625 CFM maximum and describes an optional reducing collar to bring airflow below 400 CFM. Miele Australia lists 500 m³/h in booster mode, while a Central Europe data sheet is for a different material number, 10558470, and includes regional specifications. These documents describe different market or document versions, not a controlled comparison or a correction to the current U.S. listing: current U.S. data sheet, legacy U.S. specification sheet, Miele Australia product and download page, and Central Europe data sheet.

Vented or recirculating: choose the installation first
Vented exhaust
In a vented installation, the hood exhausts air through a duct. Miele lists a top vent connection with a 6-inch (150 mm) diameter. Confirm that your route and existing ductwork match the current installation instructions before buying; a connection mismatch or difficult route can change installation scope.
Recirculating operation
Recirculation is a retrofit configuration, not a complete setup included with the bare hood. Miele lists the DUW 20 conversion kit and DKF 12-P OdorFree charcoal filter separately. Confirm that both parts are available and compatible with your market and material number, and account for them in the installed cost. The overall height range is also different: Miele lists 27 3/8–40 inches (695–1,015 mm) for vented/external configuration and 32 1/2–45 1/8 inches (825–1,145 mm) for recirculation. The U.S. product page lists the conversion kit and filter as accessories.

Check these measurements and connections before purchase
- Canopy fit: Allow for the 35 3/8-inch width and 20 1/2-inch depth, including nearby cabinets and trim.
- Vertical space: Compare the appropriate overall-height range with your ceiling and planned installation.
- Cooktop clearance: Miele lists a minimum of 24 1/8 inches (610 mm) above electric cooktops and 26 inches (660 mm) above qualifying gas cooktops, subject to stated gas-cooktop power conditions. Check the current model documentation for your exact cooktop and installation.
- Duct route: The listed connection is 6 inches (150 mm), at the top. Verify the duct path and local requirements.
- Electrical supply: Miele lists 120 V, 60 Hz, a 15 A fuse rating and a NEMA 5-15 plug.
The listed weight is 58 lb (26 kg). Use the current installation documentation and applicable local requirements to determine mounting support and installation details. Miele’s product page and data sheet are the relevant U.S. references.

Filters, controls and lighting
Miele specifies three dishwasher-safe, 10-ply stainless-steel grease filters. Behind them, the manufacturer describes a smooth, sealed CleanCover interior surface. These details indicate the intended cleaning approach, but do not establish independent ease-of-cleaning results. If configured for recirculation, the separately listed charcoal filter is an additional part to track.

The hood has electronic light-touch controls, three standard power levels and one booster level. Miele lists two 3 W LEDs, 300 lx and a 3000 K color temperature. Its product feature text also says, “The ventilation hood switches off automatically after 10 hours.” These are manufacturer-described features, not findings from independent safety or usability testing.

The U.S. page displayed a price of $2,899 when observed in 2026. Treat that as a dated listing observation, not a durable price or a quote for another region; check the live listing and local installation costs before deciding. The total cost may also depend on whether you need recirculation parts or ductwork changes.
