The Miele Classic C1 EcoLine 12396460 is a discontinued, bagged canister vacuum with a 550 W rated motor and HyClean GN bags. CHOICE lists the exact model as discontinued and reports 8.4 m measured reach and 5.92 kg weight; Miele’s January 2019 catalogue gives different, catalogue-based figures, including a 9 m operating radius. The available evidence supports a careful look at its specifications and ownership needs, but not a verdict on its cleaning performance scores.
What the exact-model review establishes
CHOICE identifies the product as “Miele Classic C1 Ecoline 12396460,” says it is discontinued, and lists Germany as its country of origin. Its page shows a $479 price and $9.75 cost per bag, but gives no publication date for those prices. Treat them as figures displayed on the page, not as current offers or verified present-day consumable prices. CHOICE’s exact-model page

CHOICE separates stated power from its own measurement: it lists 550 W stated power and 624 W measured power. It also reports a measured dust-collector volume of 2 L, 8.4 m reach from the power point, and 5.92 kg weight. These are the figures reported on that review page; they should not be conflated with the catalogue’s operating-radius or bag-capacity specifications.
Specifications: test measurements versus catalogue figures
Miele Slovenia’s January 2019 catalogue describes the EcoLine as a 550 W model with a 9 m operating radius and 78 dB(A) sound power. It specifies a 4.5 L HyClean GN bag and older EU label-era classes: A+ for energy, B for dust emissions, C for carpet cleaning, and A for hard-floor cleaning. These are catalogue specifications and historical classifications, not current label claims. Miele Slovenia’s January 2019 vacuum catalogue
#1 Best Overall
- GERMAN ENGINEERED: Bagged canister vacuum cleaner ideal for homes with hard floors and low-medium pile carpeting
- STRONG SUCTION POWER: Switch between 6 suction power settings specific to the surface being cleaned
- MAXIMUM MANEUVERABILITY: Vacuum easily around and underneath furniture, or use the clipped on accessories to clean upholstery or hard to reach places
- AIRCLEAN SYSTEM: Miele's unique 3-tiered filtration system consists of a genuine Miele FilterBag, Motor Protection Filter and AirClean Exhaust Filter. The room air is cleaner after vacuuming than before
- INCLUDED ACCESSORIES: STB 305-3 TurboTeQ Floorhead, SBB Parquet-3 Floorhead, Dusting Brush, Crevice Tool and Upholstery Tool
The 9 m operating radius in the catalogue and CHOICE’s 8.4 m measured reach are not interchangeable measurements. Likewise, CHOICE’s 2 L measured dust-collector volume is not the catalogue’s 4.5 L bag capacity. The sources use different reporting contexts, so retain each figure with its source rather than treating them as a direct discrepancy or choosing one as definitive.
Included tools and what the scores do not show
CHOICE lists two extension wands, a hose, a carpet/hard-floor tool, a crevice tool, an upholstery tool, a dusting brush, and tool holders among the supplied items. The exact-model page displays some performance categories as members-only, including pet-hair removal, corners and edges, noise, reliability, and satisfaction. Because the numerical scores are not visible in the reviewed material, this evidence does not establish how well this model performs on those measures or whether it outperforms another vacuum.

Bag replacement and ongoing ownership
The EcoLine uses HyClean GN bags according to Miele’s January 2019 catalogue. CHOICE lists $9.75 per bag on its page, but the price is undated and should not be read as current. To find compatible replacements, search for “Miele HyClean GN vacuum bags” and check the bag type printed in the vacuum’s manual or on its label before ordering; Classic C1 variants can differ. Miele’s current family and consumables pages provide product-family context, not proof that every current Classic C1 specification applies to this discontinued EcoLine. Should you consider a discontinued EcoLine?
Consider it only if you can inspect the specific unit or confirm the condition of remaining stock. The model is discontinued, and the available sources do not establish current new-unit availability. For a used or old-stock purchase, check the actual machine, included tools, hose and cable condition, bag type, and whether the seller can document warranty coverage. Compare the price against condition and what is included rather than relying on CHOICE’s undated $479 listing.

For a meaningful alternative comparison, look for independently tested pickup on both hard floors and carpet, measured noise, reach, weight, dust capacity, filtration, included floorhead and tools, warranty, and current price for a comparable condition. The reviewed exact-model page does not expose all of its scores, so those comparisons cannot be settled from its visible data alone.

“Classic C1” covers multiple configurations. Miele’s current Classic C1 pages and product materials are useful for family context and consumables, but current specifications can refer to a different machine. For example, a current specification sheet in the reviewed materials is for an 800 W variant, not the 550 W EcoLine 12396460. Do not use that 800 W figure or its associated specifications as facts about this model.
