Managing Director Imtiaz U. Ahmed inaugurated the branch alongside members of Midland Bank’s Shariah Supervisory Committee, according to the bank’s October 5 announcement. Named attendees included committee chairman Dr. Mufti Muhammad Abu Sayeed Khan and members Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Nesar Uddin and Dr. Muhammad Shahjahan Madani. Deputy managing directors Md. Zahid Hossain and Md. Nazmul Huda Sarkar were also named.

The announcement describes the change as a conversion of the existing Banani Branch into a full-fledged Islami Banking Branch. It does not give a launch date for individual products, a customer-demand figure, account count, deposit total or measured impact. Midland Bank’s description of increasing demand is qualitative, not a published statistic.

For historical context, a 2023 Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission prospectus says Midland Bank obtained an Islamic Banking Window license from Bangladesh Bank on December 5, 2019, and launched its MDB Salaam platform on April 19, 2020. Those earlier milestones predate the Banani conversion and do not establish branch-specific approval or the current terms of any product.
