Consider the Amazon 13.8-inch 2026 model for its newer processor
WIRED reported the Surface Laptop 13.8-inch (2026) at $1,280 on Amazon, down from $1,700. Its coverage highlights the Snapdragon X2 Elite GPU performance as a reason to consider the newer model over the 2024 version. That is WIRED’s assessment; no direct independent performance test is established here. The report does not identify the Amazon listing’s RAM or storage, so verify those specifications on the product page.
Compare the two Surface Laptop 8 listings carefully
Windows Central reported an Amazon Surface Laptop 8 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage at $1,279.99, reduced from $1,699.99. Its Best Buy listing is a Dune configuration with the same stated memory and storage for $1,099.99, but the original prices differ. Check the SKU and terms at each retailer rather than assuming the products or reference prices are identical.

Microsoft’s US deals page lists a Surface Laptop 13.8-inch (8th Edition) Essentials Bundle from $1,299.99, with an original price from $1,599.99 and savings of up to $700 across configurations. That maximum is for the bundle, not a laptop-only discount. Compare the exact bundle contents—including accessories and any protection coverage—with the laptop and items’ separate prices before deciding whether it is a better value. Microsoft says offers may be modified or discontinued at any time. Check Microsoft’s current Surface deals.
Check these details before checkout
- Generation and processor: Listings and deal coverage use names including “Surface Laptop 13.8-inch (2026),” “Surface Laptop 8,” and “8th Edition.” Confirm the processor on the exact SKU; the 2026/8th Edition line uses Snapdragon X2 processors, while the older comparison model is from the X1 generation.
- Size and configuration: Check 13.8-inch versus 15-inch, RAM, storage, processor, and color. A larger percentage discount does not necessarily make a different configuration the better buy.
