The October 1, 2026 announcement sets out reporting changes and reiterates a strategy to connect Office and Copilot more closely; it does not announce immediate changes to Teams, Office features, licensing, pricing or release schedules.
What Microsoft has announced
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Roslansky, an executive vice president of LinkedIn and Microsoft 365, decided to leave. Roslansky will remain through the end of calendar year 2026 as an advisor to Nadella and support the transition. Nadella described Roslansky’s tenure at LinkedIn and Microsoft as nearly 18 years. Microsoft’s October 1 announcement is the controlling source for the departure and the current reporting changes.

Roslansky said that leading the next phase of the work well would mean being in Redmond full time, while his family’s life is in the Bay Area. He presented leaving as a family decision, not as a dispute over Microsoft’s products or strategy.

Who will take over Microsoft 365?
Microsoft did not identify a single executive to inherit Roslansky’s entire combined M365, Office and Teams remit. Instead, its announcement specifies reporting changes for several leaders:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Leader or group | Announced arrangement, effective October 1, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Sumit Chauhan and Lan Ye | Report to Charles Lamanna |
| Jon Friedman | Reports to Jacob Andreou |
| Dan Shapero | Continues as LinkedIn CEO, reporting to Satya Nadella |
| Mohak Shroff | Continues in his role, reporting to Satya Nadella |
Those lines clarify parts of the organization, but they do not amount to a named one-for-one replacement for Roslansky’s full portfolio. Avoid reading any one reporting change as proof that a particular executive now owns all of M365, Office and Teams.
What the move could mean for Microsoft 365
Copilot and Office integration remains the stated direction
Nadella reiterated Microsoft’s ambition to make Copilot a “new OS for work,” with “Office fully embedded in Copilot and vice versa.” This is strategic framing: the announcement does not provide a product roadmap, release dates or a promise about specific features. Still, it indicates that Microsoft is publicly describing Office and Copilot as increasingly connected, rather than announcing a retreat from that goal.

That emphasis predates Roslansky’s departure. In March 2026, Microsoft described a unified Copilot leadership effort involving Roslansky, Perry Clarke and Charles Lamanna across M365 apps and the Copilot platform. The March Copilot leadership announcement provides that context. Separately, Microsoft’s March 12 Experiences + Devices leadership changes placed Roslansky among four executive vice presidents reporting directly to Nadella after Rajesh Jha announced a retirement transition.
Leadership continuity changes; product consequences are not established
Roslansky’s departure changes leadership continuity while Microsoft pursues closer Copilot and M365 integration. It does not, by itself, show that the strategy has changed. Nor does the October announcement establish that Teams, Word, Excel or other Office apps will change immediately, or that Microsoft 365 licensing, Copilot availability, prices or release timing will be different as a result.

TechRadar Pro characterized the product future as uncertain and interpreted the leadership news as pointing toward a more AI-centric approach. That is the outlet’s analysis, not a Microsoft-confirmed roadmap. TechRadar Pro’s October 2 report is useful as commentary, but the official announcement is the evidence for what Microsoft has actually committed to publicly.

For customers, the practical distinction is between an organizational update and a product announcement. The October statement describes who reports to whom and restates a broad Copilot vision; it gives no customer-facing change to act on now. Watch for separate Microsoft announcements if you need confirmation about particular features, Teams changes, licensing, prices or availability.

LinkedIn’s membership figure in Nadella’s message—1.3 billion members—belongs to the LinkedIn context and says nothing about Microsoft 365 adoption or Copilot usage. The announcement provides no M365 adoption, Copilot usage, customer satisfaction or revenue figure that would quantify the effect of the executive move.
