Michael B. Jordan is attached to produce a film based on Electronic Arts’ Battlefield video game franchise and may also star—but his casting is not confirmed. TheWrap reported on October 2, 2026, that Sony Pictures was the frontrunner and in talks to land the project, not that a deal had closed. Christopher McQuarrie is reported to write, direct, and produce.
What is the Battlefield movie?
It is a proposed adaptation of EA’s Battlefield franchise, rather than a reported adaptation of one particular game. TheWrap first reported the package going to studios in April 2026, with McQuarrie attached as writer, director, and producer and Jordan attached as a producer and potential star. Its October 2 update said Sony had emerged as the frontrunner in talks.

According to TheWrap, five studios submitted bids: Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix. TheWrap also named EA producer Jesse Stern, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo, and Elizabeth Raposo of Outlier Society as producers. These are reported project details; Sony’s frontrunner status does not establish that it acquired the film rights or completed a deal.
Is Michael B. Jordan confirmed to star?
No. TheWrap described Jordan as attached to produce and potentially star, making any acting role contingent. ComicBook.com’s October 2 coverage likewise acknowledges that he would star only if he ultimately takes the role. It is accurate to call him a potential lead, not the confirmed star.

Calling Battlefield Jordan’s “next” acting project would also go beyond what is established. ComicBook.com noted that he is starring in and directing The Thomas Crown Affair, which that article listed for March 5, 2027. The available coverage does not confirm where a possible Battlefield role would fall in his schedule.
Which Battlefield game will the film adapt?
No specific installment, plot, characters, or setting has been announced in the cited coverage. TheWrap describes the franchise as spanning settings from Vietnam to the far future and notes that the first game, Battlefield 1942, launched for PC and Mac in 2002. EA’s official Motive Studio page lists Battlefield 6 as a current game and describes it as an all-out warfare experience, but no cited report connects that game’s story or setting to the film.

EA describes Battlefield Studios as four studios across two continents, drawing on more than 20 years of franchise experience. That is EA’s description of its development organization, not an independent assessment of the film or confirmation of its creative direction. Readers looking for the current game can see EA’s official Battlefield 6 listing; its presence does not mean the movie is based on that title.

How does it compare with the Call of Duty film?
The two projects are separate video-game adaptations, and their reported status should not be conflated. TheWrap describes the Call of Duty film as a Paramount project with Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg attached, and reports a June 30, 2028 release date. For Battlefield, the cited reporting identifies McQuarrie and Jordan’s contingent acting role, but gives no release date. The Call of Duty date is not a basis for predicting when Battlefield might arrive.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does “everyone wants to see it” reflect measured fan demand?
No audience poll or other measure of broad demand appears in the cited coverage. “Everyone wants to see” is promotional wording from the original headline, not evidence that every fan—or a measured share of players—wants the adaptation. The reported facts establish a high-profile package and active studio discussions, not audience consensus.
