What is Metro Redux?
Metro Redux is a collection of two revised games: Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. The 2014 PlayStation announcement described both games as remastered for PS4 and announced a boxed double pack; current formats and listings depend on platform and region. The scale of revision differs between the games. The original Metro 2033 received the deeper technical and gameplay rebuild. Last Light Redux retains the later game’s foundation but adds listed features and bundles its previously released DLC. Metro 2033 Redux was rebuilt using the Last Light engine and gameplay framework. The official Xbox description confirms this foundation change, and a contemporaneous 2014 comparison by Game Informer describes the first game as receiving the bulk of Redux’s upgrades.

What changed in Last Light Redux?
Last Light Redux also has changes, but the documented list is more focused than the rebuild of Metro 2033. PLAION lists these additions:
- New melee animations.
- The ability to check the watch and ammunition supplies while playing.
- New full-body player animations.
- Survival and Spartan play styles.
- Ranger Mode, with reduced interface information, deadlier combat and more limited resources.
- Previously released DLC, described by PLAION as 10 hours of bonus single-player content.
That 10-hour figure is PLAION’s description of the included bonus single-player content, not a guaranteed playtime for every player. The documented features support calling Redux an updated edition, but do not establish a comprehensive, platform-by-platform change log for every difference from the original.

Choose Metro 2033 Redux if you want the revised foundation
Redux is the straightforward choice for experiencing Metro 2033 with the later engine and gameplay framework, visual refresh, mask-wiping feature and the two play styles. This is the title where the documented overhaul is most substantial.
Choose Last Light Redux for its additions and bundled content
If you are deciding how to play Last Light, Redux offers the listed animation and interface additions, Survival and Spartan modes, Ranger Mode and the previously released DLC. The available evidence does not support a claim that it was either wholly redesigned or left untouched.

Look for the original PC versions if original presentation matters
Deep Silver announced that it partnered with GOG to release the original 2010 Metro 2033 and 2013 Metro: Last Light Complete Edition as part of a game-preservation effort. The announcement says the PC releases received work for modern compatibility, resolutions, framerates and controllers. This establishes a PC route to the originals through GOG, not current availability of original console editions or availability in every region. What platform and edition details should you check?
Launch-era specifications and today’s store catalogues are not interchangeable. PlayStation Blog said in May 2014 that the PS4 version ran at 1080p and 60 frames per second, and that Metro 2033 was appearing on a PlayStation platform for the first time. Those are historical claims about that PS4 release, not a universal specification for every current version.
The Xbox Store currently lists Metro 2033 Redux for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and shows a Metro Redux bundle containing both Redux games. Store prices and availability can change, and a listing in one territory does not establish availability elsewhere. Before buying, confirm the platform, region, digital or physical format, bundle contents and any DLC included in the specific listing.
