Choose Metro Exodus if you specifically want the later, separate entry and its story-driven blend of combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. They are not two editions of the same game: Metro Redux contains Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, while Metro Exodus is a separate sequel. A complete-series purchase may make more sense through the Metro Saga Bundle, but only after checking its current contents, your platform, region and the games you already own.
What “Metro Redux” and “Metro Exodus” actually are
The most important distinction is scope. “Metro Redux” is the name of a two-game collection: Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. Deep Silver describes both as definitive versions rebuilt in the 4A Engine. They cover the earlier stories in the series and are the natural starting point if you want to follow the narrative from its beginning.

Metro Exodus is not part of that pair and is not a Redux edition of either game. It is a later, standalone entry described by its publisher as a story-driven first-person shooter that combines combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. In practical terms, the decision is between buying two earlier games together or buying one later game—not between two technical versions of one campaign.

| Place in the series | The first two game stories, presented as rebuilt Redux versions. | A subsequent entry after those earlier stories. |

Choose Metro Redux when you want the beginning of the saga
You want both earlier stories in one purchase
Metro Redux is the straightforward choice for someone who has not played the series and wants to experience its first two game narratives. Starting with Metro 2033 Redux gives you the opening context before moving to Metro: Last Light Redux. Because the collection contains two complete titles rather than one, it also avoids buying the first story separately and then searching for the follow-up.
You want a choice between Survival and Spartan approaches
PLAION’s product description for Metro 2033 Redux names two play styles: Survival and Spartan. It also identifies Ranger Mode. Survival and Spartan are presented as distinct approaches, while Ranger Mode removes the HUD and other interface assistance, increases combat danger and limits resources. These are useful differentiators if you want to tune the opening game toward a more assisted or more demanding experience.
The qualification matters: the documented description is specifically for Metro 2033 Redux. It does not prove that Metro: Last Light Redux exposes an identical menu or identical rules. Treat each game’s own options screen as authoritative after installation.
You care about a deliberate, survival-focused presentation
Deep Silver’s description of the Redux pair combines story, survival horror, exploration, tactical combat and stealth. That mix makes Redux appropriate when you want the series’ foundational tone and mechanics rather than jumping directly to its later chapter. It does not establish that Redux is universally scarier, harder or better than Exodus; those judgments depend on player preference and are not supported by a like-for-like comparative test here.
Rank #2
- Two campaigns, and all DLC included - Metro Redux includes two complete campaigns that combine to create one epic solo adventure, plus a further 10 hours of bonus content. Two unique Play Styles and Ranger Mode add hours more replayability!
- Two unique Play Styles : 'Spartan' and 'Survival' - approach the campaign as a slow burn Survival Horror , or tackle it with the combat skills of a Spartan Ranger in these two unique modes
Choose Metro Exodus when you want the later standalone entry
You want one separate game rather than the opening collection
Exodus is the relevant purchase when your priority is the later game itself. Its official description calls it story-driven and identifies a blend of first-person-shooter combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror. That makes it a sensible choice for a player who already knows the earlier stories, owns them elsewhere, or simply wants to begin with the title that interests them most.
You are buying for its documented genre blend
The publisher’s wording supports a clear expectation: Exodus is not presented as a pure action shooter. Its design combines fighting, avoiding detection, exploring and surviving in a horror-tinged setting. Those ingredients overlap with Redux, so the distinction is not “horror versus no horror” or “stealth versus no stealth.” The meaningful difference is that Exodus is a later game with its own campaign and its own package of content.
Do not infer unsupported advantages
The available material does not provide a controlled comparison of campaign length, frame rate, visual quality, difficulty, fear factor or value per hour. It would be misleading to declare Exodus universally more advanced, more frightening or easier. If one of those factors is decisive, check the current platform listing and independent reviews for your exact edition rather than treating the game’s release order as proof.

Story order and the best buying path
For a first-time player
- Start with Metro 2033 Redux.
- Continue with Metro: Last Light Redux.
- Play Metro Exodus afterward as the later entry.
This order follows the games’ position in the saga and lets you encounter the setting and characters before reaching Exodus. The collection label does not mean the two Redux games are optional add-ons to Exodus; they are the earlier games themselves.
Rank #3
- Genre-leading sniping defined by advanced, Authentic ballistics
- An expansive campaign featuring massive maps and Boundless strategy
- Trademark X-ray Kill cams, including melee and explosive takedowns
- Iconic Ww2 weaponry; Sniper rifles, pistols, smgs, traps, grenades and more
- Upgrade and customize your skills and weaponry as you progress
For someone who already owns one Redux title
Check the store page at the account level before purchasing. If you own one of the two Redux games separately, a collection may still include it and create a duplicate entitlement rather than adding only the missing title. Compare the itemized contents and the final price with the cost of buying the unowned game alone.
For someone who already owns Exodus
Buying Redux can fill the narrative gap by adding the first two games. Buying a bundle that also contains Exodus may not be economical if your platform does not discount content you already own or if the bundle grants a duplicate license. Verify the platform’s ownership handling before checkout.
For someone who wants everything
The Metro Saga Bundle listing on Xbox US names Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, Metro Exodus and two Exodus expansions, with Enhanced Edition add-on entries shown in the listing. Bundle contents and entitlements can vary by platform and region, and store listings can change. Use the live listing—not a remembered screenshot or an old price—to confirm exactly what is included.
Modes, difficulty and interface assistance
What Ranger Mode changes in Metro 2033 Redux
Ranger Mode is described as removing HUD and user-interface elements while making combat more dangerous and resources more limited. In practical terms, you should expect less on-screen guidance and less margin for wasteful ammunition or supplies. It is aimed at players who want information and resources to be constrained rather than constantly displayed.
Rank #4
- Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness One of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life on Nintendo Switch
- Brave the horrors of the Russian Apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
- Two campaigns, and all DLC included - Metro Redux includes two complete campaigns that combine to create One epic solo adventure, plus a further 10 hours of bonus content
- Two unique play styles: 'spartan' And 'survival' - approach the campaign as a slow burn survival horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a spartan ranger in these two unique modes
How to select a suitable approach
- Choose Survival if you want the resource pressure and survival emphasis highlighted in the game’s mode descriptions.
- Choose Spartan if you prefer a more action-oriented approach within Metro 2033 Redux.
- Choose Ranger Mode only when reduced interface support, tougher combat conditions and limited resources are desirable.
These labels are documented for Metro 2033 Redux. Before assuming a setting carries over, open the options or mode-selection screen in Metro: Last Light Redux and read its own description.
Platforms, editions and physical copies
Exodus storefront coverage
Deep Silver’s official Exodus page directs readers to PlayStation, Xbox, Epic, Steam and GOG destinations. That broad platform list does not guarantee that every edition, upgrade path or expansion is available in every country. Check the store page for your specific console or PC storefront, account region and edition name.
Nintendo Switch physical availability
A 2020 Meristation review of the Nintendo Switch release reported that the two remastered games could be purchased separately as digital products or together on a physical 16 GB card. This confirms a historical physical Switch edition, not current retailer stock, pricing or availability. If you want a cartridge, verify that a current listing is genuine and that it contains the collection rather than a download code or a different regional package.
Digital versus physical checks
- Confirm whether the listing contains both Redux games or only one title.
- Check the platform and region printed in the listing or on the package.
- For a physical release, verify storage requirements and whether additional downloads are required.
- For a digital purchase, make sure the product is attached to the account and storefront you actually use.
The 2026 Redux update: what is announced and when
Deep Silver announced a free Redux update in October 2026 for existing owners on named PC and console platforms. At the current information date of October 16, 2026, the announced launch dates are still in the future: October 22, 2026 for PC and October 29, 2026 for consoles. Recheck the official announcement and your platform’s update history before relying on those dates, because rollout timing or eligibility can change.
Best Value
- Includes both Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue, plus all single-player DLC.
- Become the most feared pirate in the Caribbean in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Take part in an award-winning naval experience and explore a massive open world.
- Become the ultimate assassin hunter in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and play as a Templar for the first time in franchise history.
- Additional bonus content: Black Beard: The Lost Journal (pp. 1– 55) and Assassin’s Creed: Awakening Volumes 1 & 2.
- Experience enhanced features like handheld mode, HD Rumble, a touch screen interface, and motion control aiming.
Deep Silver explicitly says the update is not a full remaster or remake. Its statement is: “This is not a full remaster or remake – the original METRO Redux experience and aesthetic has been preserved – but we have made careful, meaningful improvements to take advantage of the latest PC and console hardware.” The announcement lists platform-specific improvements, but the information available here does not establish a single identical feature list for every platform.
Therefore, do not buy Redux on the assumption that a future update transforms it into a new game. The stated goal is to preserve the original Redux experience while improving how it uses newer hardware. Confirm the final patch notes and supported platforms after release.
Bundle value, ownership and price checks
Why displayed prices should not be treated as universal
The Xbox US Metro Saga Bundle page displays a package containing the three games and Exodus expansion entries, but store prices are time-sensitive and region-specific. A price shown in the United States is not a dependable price for another country, another platform or a later date. The same applies to discounts, upgrade offers and ownership adjustments.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Open the live store page for your exact platform and region.
- Write down which of the three games you already own on that storefront.
- Expand the bundle’s item list and identify every expansion and Enhanced Edition entry.
- Compare the bundle total with the cost of only the missing games or expansions.
- Check whether your platform grants duplicate content, a discount, or no adjustment for existing ownership.
- Confirm that the edition supports your hardware and that the purchase is for the account you intend to use.
When the bundle is the sensible choice
The bundle is most defensible when you want all three games, do not already own most of them, and also want the listed Exodus expansions. It is less attractive when you own one or more components, need only the first two stories, or are shopping across different platforms where licenses do not transfer.
What the available evidence does—and does not—prove
Established facts
- Metro Redux contains Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux.
- Deep Silver describes the pair as definitive versions rebuilt in the 4A Engine.
- Metro 2033 Redux is documented with Survival, Spartan and Ranger Mode options.
- Metro Exodus is a separate, story-driven first-person shooter.
- The Xbox US bundle listing names all three games and the two Exodus expansions, including Enhanced Edition add-on entries.
- Deep Silver reported 50 million copies of Metro games sold worldwide in 2026. That is a franchise-wide figure, not sales for Redux or Exodus individually.
Not established by the cited material
- A head-to-head score or objective quality ranking.
- Like-for-like campaign length or completion-time results.
- A universal winner for graphics, performance, scariness or difficulty.
- Current prices, retailer stock or exhaustive regional edition differences.
- An identical set of named modes across both Redux games.
Keeping those limits visible prevents a buying guide from turning a package comparison into an unsupported verdict about which game is “better.”
Decision guide by player type
| If this sounds like you | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| “I have never played Metro and want the story from the start.” | Metro Redux | It contains the opening two games in series order. |
| “I want the later game and do not need the first two right now.” | Metro Exodus | It is the separate later entry with its own story-driven campaign. |
| “I want resource pressure and a no-HUD challenge in the first game.” | Metro 2033 Redux within Metro Redux | Ranger Mode is specifically documented with those restrictions. |
| “I want every listed game and Exodus expansion.” | Metro Saga Bundle, if the live listing and ownership math work | The Xbox US listing names the three games and two Exodus expansions. |
| “I already own two of the games.” | Buy only the missing content unless the bundle discount is clearly better | Existing ownership can make an all-in bundle redundant. |
| “I need a physical Switch copy.” | Verify a current Metro Redux card listing | A 2020 review documented a 16 GB card, but current stock is not established. |
Bottom line for the choice
Metro Redux is the right starting point when your priority is the first two Metro stories, a two-game package, or the documented Survival, Spartan and Ranger options in Metro 2033 Redux. Metro Exodus is the right choice when you specifically want the later, separate story-driven shooter and its combination of combat, stealth, exploration and survival horror.
Neither choice is an objectively established winner. Decide first whether you want the beginning of the saga or the later entry, then verify platform, region, edition, update timing and existing ownership. If you want all three games and the Exodus expansions, inspect the current Metro Saga Bundle contents before paying.
