If you already own Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux, you should not need to buy it again. On PS5, look for the eligible game in Game Library > Your Collection and select Download. Xbox-specific failure steps have not yet been established by official guidance.
Check the release date and your entitlement first
PLAION’s support FAQ and Deep Silver’s announcement schedule the METRO Redux console update worldwide for October 29, 2026; Japan is scheduled for November. That means an update that is missing before October 29 is not necessarily an installation fault. The publisher’s FAQ also lists October 22 for Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG on PC, and October 29 for Windows Store. PLAION’s METRO Redux support FAQ and Deep Silver’s announcement provide the published dates.

- The update is free for existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux.
- New players receive the updated version automatically when they buy either game.
- Sign in using the PlayStation Network or Xbox account that owns the eligible game, and check that game’s library or store page after the release date.
There is no need for an existing owner to repurchase either title to get the upgrade. The announced eligibility applies to both games; the publisher has not described separate upgrade tiers by edition.
What this update includes—and what it does not
PLAION describes the release as a quality-of-life update, not a new-generation remake or remaster. Its FAQ states, “This is not a remaster or a remake of METRO Redux,” and says ray tracing is not included. It is also not a port to the current 4A Engine. The publisher FAQ has the entitlement and scope details.
#1 Best Overall
Deep Silver has announced 4K textures across platforms, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, and community-led bug fixes and quality-of-life changes. The console release adds native support for PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Announced platform features include PSSR on PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X, spatial audio on Xbox, Adaptive Triggers on DualSense and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. The publisher says suitable displays can support true 4K at 60 FPS or upscaled 4K at 120 FPS. These are advance feature details, not a complete set of install-failure fixes; full technical patch notes are expected at launch. Deep Silver’s announcement

If a PS5 installation completes but the game will not start
The following are Sony’s general PlayStation troubleshooting suggestions, not Metro-specific fixes. Try them in order and stop when the game works:
Rank #3
- PS5 Features include raytracing modes and immersive haptic feedback for DualSense
- Use darkness and cover to avoid being overwhelmed by the ship's deadly new inhabitants
- Seek out the weapon fabricators to increase your firepower as you journey deeper, into the dark and terrifying depths, but beware ammo is limited
- Gather materials & schematics for weapon upgrades and suit customizations with buffs
- Harvest DNA material to improve health, toughness and defensive capabilities.Survive an ever changing labyrinth. Each and every expedition into The Persistence will be disorienting and different.Death is just the beginning. Fatal encounters will result in Zimri's consciousness being uploaded into a new cloned body, ready to try again, with any upgraded stats, suits & weapon schematics kept to aid the next attempt to save the ship
- If you are playing from disc, check the disc and console drive for problems.
- If the game is on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage.
- Restart the PS5 and try launching the game again.
- Restore licenses, then check that the console has the latest system software.
- If the problem continues, delete and redownload the game; Sony recommends using a wired connection where possible.
- As further options, use Safe Mode to clear the cache or rebuild the database.
See Sony’s guidance for games that will not launch for the current steps. If you contact PlayStation Support, include any error code, what happens when you try to start the game, the steps needed to reproduce the problem, and a screenshot or video if possible.
If the update will not install on Xbox Series X|S
Do not assume an Xbox menu path or a Metro-specific fix that the publisher has not documented. After October 29, confirm you are signed into the account that owns the eligible game, check the game’s library or store page, and record the exact error message. Then consult current Xbox Support guidance for that error. The official Xbox support results reviewed for this article did not establish a specific fix for this update.

- The account you used to check the game’s ownership and library.

Those details help support distinguish a missing entitlement or unavailable download from a failed installation or launch problem.
