Meta’s Muse Charm is a reported keychain-like way to access its Muse AI agent, not an announced smartwatch. The comparison to a watch is a reasonable forecast: Meta is exploring wearable AI through glasses and a wrist-worn control band. But the available announcements and reporting do not confirm a Meta smartwatch or a 2027 launch.
What is Meta Muse Charm?
At Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg reportedly described Muse Charm as a keychain-like device that would provide the “whole Muse experience,” letting people access a personal AI agent without a phone, computer or smart glasses. The Associated Press reported a planned holiday release in December 2026. That is a reported plan, not confirmation that the device has shipped; the cited coverage did not give a price. “AI Tamagotchi” is an analogy, not a description of a virtual pet that needs feeding or care. Muse is presented as an agent for conversation and tasks. AP reported demonstrations involving travel planning, booking reservations and ordering groceries, and described real-time voice conversations and video chats. OpenTable, Spotify and Ticketmaster were among companies AP said Meta partnered with to help its agents complete tasks. Is Meta making a smartwatch?
No confirmed Meta smartwatch or 2027 watch launch appears in the sources available as of October 7, 2026. Nor do those sources establish that Muse Charm has a watch display, health sensors, watch functions or a watch operating system. Calling it a “smartwatch preview” is therefore an interpretation of Meta’s direction, not a reported product plan.

The interpretation has a basis: Meta is building AI experiences across wearable forms, including glasses and wrist-based input. That makes it plausible that the company is exploring how people might reach an AI agent quickly and without holding a phone. It does not show that Meta intends to put that experience in a watch.
How Meta’s existing wearables compare
Meta’s current products make the distinction clearer: one is camera-and-audio glasses, another adds a visual display and wrist control, while Muse Charm is reported as a small, dedicated AI access point.

The Gen 3 specifications and starting price are from Meta’s September 2026 announcement, not independent testing. “Up to” battery figures are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee of typical runtime. The Neural Band’s wrist placement is relevant to a watch comparison, but it is a control device, not evidence of a smartwatch.
Why the smartwatch comparison is plausible—and where it stops
Always-accessible AI is the shared idea
A wearable can make an assistant easier to reach for a short prompt, a notification or the start of a task. A keychain, glasses and a watch could all be ways to make AI more available without taking out a phone. That is a design inference from the products Meta has announced, not a claim about Muse Charm’s final capabilities.

Meta has demonstrated different wearable inputs
Ray-Ban Meta glasses center on camera and audio; Ray-Ban Display adds visual information; the Neural Band uses wrist muscle signals as input. Together, they show Meta experimenting with hands-free and wearable interaction. They do not establish that Muse Charm has a screen, that it performs watch-like tasks, or that Meta has a watch roadmap.

AI processing may involve the cloud
Meta Engineering says simple directions, such as calls or text responses, can be handled on-device, while more advanced personalized features need larger models and cloud processing. Meta describes its Private Processing system as confidential-computing infrastructure using confidential virtual machines and says even Meta cannot access data processed there. That distinction matters for any wearable AI device: what it can do locally may differ from features that rely on remote processing. The cited material describes glasses, and does not establish Muse Charm’s sensors, data flows or privacy design.

Meta frames wrist control as potentially accessible
Meta says EMG wrist signals could support controls for people with limited large movements, tremors or fewer than five fingers. It also reported nearly 200,000 participants in its surface-EMG research informing the Neural Band. That figure describes research participation—not product adoption, clinical outcomes or proof of effectiveness. (Meta)
What would make the 2027-watch thesis stronger?
A smartwatch claim would need product evidence beyond the current wearable experiments. Watch-specific details—such as a screen, watch software, health sensors, confirmed functions or a dated launch announcement—would materially change the picture. Until Meta announces such a device, the careful conclusion is that Muse Charm adds to its wearable-AI experimentation, while a Meta smartwatch for 2027 remains unconfirmed.
